The genet is a nocturnal hunter. It's sharp, pointy retractable claws enable it to snare its snacks, anything from bugs to mice. It is also a good climber and often climbs trees to catch birds. yum yum.
The slender and loosely jointed body of a genet enables it to squeeze through any opening its head fits through.
You can buy designer cats called genettas, bred to have short legs and markings similar to the African genet.
I used various layers to make this drawing, along with photographs I took in Andorra.

I love this photo, it was taken in the transkei, one of my favourite places on earth. full of magical properties, there is a presence about the whole area, something in the sea salt, rolling hills, foresty corners, and surprising views.
Something about waking up early, and lazying the day away. these chickens know what i mean dont they, man they are just all ploofed up on the dining room table bench, not a care in the world.
I´ve been following the comic art of zelda and kurt for a while now on Tor.com.
Their illustrations are truly marvellous, and I love the stories too! check them out! You can find their website here:

Now that the exhibition is up, and i´m no longer worrying about it. I have been sorting sorting sorting. Photos that have been stuffed into corners of my hardrive, are slowly seeing the light of day.
These are from my trip to the Philippines, a while ago now, still it feels like I was just there. I wouldnt mind going back, the snorkeling was incredible, and the islands and hidden beaches, jungles and cock fights, cliffs and caves really beyond imagination.
This illustration forms part of a 3 panel print work, created especially for an exhibition in Cape Town South africa, for a show entitled "Spookasem" which literally means ghosts breath in Afrikaans. It´s also the descriptive local term for the clouds that sometimes rest on top of table mountain, which forms the backdrop to Cape Town.
The exhibition begins on Wednesday. wooo!
you can read more here:

Also the other 2 panels are up in my flickr, along with more details.
skiing in Andorra was amazing, but freezing. The country is teeeeeny tiny, with all the villages and town built in a line along the valley. it´s also tax free, and all the shops give you an "airport lounge" kind of feeling. very strange. But the mountains are fantastic, i saw icicles longer than 6 meters!!!!
Possible cover for a new Casa Eslava book i illustrated. I finished up 3 books for Meri Ilic of Casa Eslava, each one with it´s own cover, but she is producing a special edition which will combine all three. Meri is from Serbia, and her unique writing style combines her roots with her new life in Barcelona. Each book covers social issues like migration, abuse, and inter cultural exchange.
i had a little trouble with this image, i don´t know, sometimes capturing someone else´s vision is tough, it´s been a huge learning curve for me. We´ll have to see if the client likes it.
hello there,
just a little doodle to pass the time, hahah, im quite nervous about the looming exhibition, and i have a tendency to ignore things that freak me out, hahah, so here´s the product of me avoiding real work...
Working hard on the illustrations for the final book in Meri Ilic´s series for Casa Eslava.
This one is my favourite I think. It´s also the first one that i was able to read in Spanish and understand! yay me! The story had so many wonderful descriptive images it was hard to choose what to draw.
It follows the story of a young iranian girl who suffers an abusive father and suicidal mother. Tough reading, and heavy subject matter. The book deals with verbal abuse, but it ends happily.
In other news, the date of my MissYucki exhibition is drawing near.....eeeeeeek! so much to do, and yuck i´ve managed to catch some horrible germ, and can´t really imagine leaving my heater and laptop to doodle..lazy lazy!
too much excitement over New years i guess!
Happy new year & merry Christmas 2010.

My computer died back in october, it was very sad. She had been feeling poorly for about a year, but kept pushing on. Finally before I went to South Africa, she sighed her last breath. So while hunting for a new one (although I felt conflicted about replacing my old friend) I was using Milos´s computer at the studio. 2 weeks ago that too died. So what is it? is it me??
At about the same time, we moved apartments, and now live on calle verdi at the heart of gracia, which is nice, but noisy. So things have been a little hectic - I have been busy doing DIY and stressing over the lack of computer to do any work on.
It´s interesting because I actually ended up doing quite a lot of real life painting, getting my fingers dirty, and paint in my hair. Quite satisfying really. I have an exhibition coming up in January, so it´s probably just as well that i had to say goodbye to computers in general.
i also learnt how to use a drill, and our apartment now boasts a few more holes, strategic or not, :-)and storage!
this is my Doglet. He used to belong to my neighbor att he old place. One day I came home and saw him (with his whole body) outside their door. they were doing some renovations or something. I oohed and aahed. and wished i could take him home.
the next day i found his head in the trash outside. clearly there was foul play involved. True to my strange african roots, i took him home, and enshrined his head in my curiosity cabinet.
Finally this year I have fashioned him a winter bonnet and he now resides on the wall protecting my missyucki prints
I had a great break in Kenton-on-Sea while I was in South Africa, the past month. We played in the sand, rescued beach slugs, found a rabies infested baby jackal, went canoeing, had good times with old friends. lovely lovely!
