1. Act!vated Storytellers at Crossroads Mall Today

Act!vated Storytellers are going to be at the Bellevue Crossroads Mall today at 4:30 presenting Quizzical Quests, sponsored by King County Library System. I'd meant to post a note earlier about this show, but at least you know before the end. I saw the traveling performers Act!vated Storytellers when I worked as a children's librarian for King County Library System between 2000-2001. They were performing for a school assembly in Bellevue, but the library was hosting the show. Over the centuries explorers from many nations have laid claim to islands, mountains, and swathes of territory of varying sizes; we’ve even witnessed astronauts planting a flag on the moon. But each symbolic gesture leaves less land available, causing countries to squabble over smaller and smaller patches of the planet. Then again, governments can be quite creative. Russia, for example, recently dispatched a submarine to the Arctic Ocean to leave a titanium version of their flag on the steep-sided Lomonosov Ridge. (more…)
