1. THE OUTSIDE WORLD

Good Morning:

As I tap, tap, tap on my computer keyboard, I am finishing my second cup of coffee. The sun is shining and the windows are open. I can hear, what sounds to be, one thousand and fifteen Goldfinch fighting over the thistle feeder hanging in my front tree. As is normal for a Saturday morning, somewhere in the distance is the hum and growl of a lawn mower.

I have already taken advantage of the fabulous morning. I took a stroll around my yard with my trusty camera. I discovered that the Praying Mantis babies that we hatched and let loose in the garden last year are thriving still......

I'm sure some of you remember my mini-schnauzer "Junior". It looks like he took advantage of the cool morning as well. He's been out in the side garden under the Cape Plumbago, no doubt hunting for the non-existant garden fairies that he often imagines!

If any of you have experience with Cape Plumbago, then you know that each and every one of those blue flowers are as sticky as school paste. It will take many hours and even more patience to rid Junior of his cool blue decoration.

With no new art to show, I will close this post. I am off to list some vintage photos in my Etsy shop.

Thanks ever so much for stopping by, as it is truly appreciated.

2. NEW WORK BUT NO NEW WORDS

Good Morning:

Well, it's been over a week since I've made my way to my blog. Filling the big, white, and blank page seems such a heavy task, yet when I do have the words, I enjoy it so. Although I haven't many words lately, I have managed to finish two new collages. They are both listed in My Etsy Shop.

The first collage is a second piece in my "Fiona" series. It's a 5" x 7" on canvas:

FASHIONABLE FIONA

The second collage is another in my "Rabbit" series. It's a 4" x 6" on canvas and I like to classify it as "story art", as there is a story to the piece. It goes like this:

"What you get with this collage is a lovely summer afternoon somewhere in the English countryside. The kind of warm day with miniature breezes that call you to laze about. But on this day, Rabbit had an unexpected visit from her dear friend, Dog. Dog felt that the day was so warm and fresh that a party was in order. Dog brought hats and tea and scones. A nice time was had by all...BUT, something was amiss. There was a static in the air and a low howl far in the distance....

Now, you get to fill in the blank. The end of the story belongs to you!!"

RABBIT'S UNEXPECTED PARTY

Both of these pieces will, eventually, be offered in print form in my Etsy shop. If you are interested in either of these collages or a print of either one, but you don't have an Etsy account, feel free to email me for details. You can do so by going to the top left hand corner of my blog and click on the email button.

********************************************

As much as I loathe using my blog as a simple marketing tool, that must be what I use it for today, as I'm off to another busy day. Meds for my mom and picking up some medical records for her as well.

As always, thank you ever so much for stopping by and having a look at my new work. I truly appreciate it.

Until Next Time

3. Publishing Spotted: Quick Quizes, Translating Tips, and Needy Novels

The Savage Detectives: A NovelFreelancing is tough business, and every writer has set his or her boundaries. Would you write a quiz for Seventeen? Would you write for TV Guide?

I'll admit my quiz-making skills are lacking, but if you want to write quizzes that ask quantifiable questions like "What Kind of Lover Are You?" then Inkthinker has your back with this quiz-making primer.

Ever considered translating a novel? Scott Esposito from Coversational Reading has a sweet interview with the translator of Roberto Bolano's stunning novel, The Savage Detectives. Even though it's only June, I can tell you that book was one of the Top Five Novels I Have Read This Year.

Finally, you should ponder Nick Antosca's essay subtitled "On the Writing and (eventual) Publication of My First Novel" over the weekend. It's chock full of inspiration and frustrating realities.

Check it out: "When you get a book published, there are two feelings you experience right away and in quick succession: desire to draw attention to your book and fear of the attention that will be paid to your book. I promoted Fires in basic ways — via email, facebook.com, and a blog I’d created for that very purpose — and I did readings at venues like Housing Works bookstore and KGB Bar. Impetus did the rest."

Publishing Spotted collects the best of what's around on writing blogs on any given day. Feel free to send tips and suggestions to your fearless editor: jason [at] thepublishingspot.com.
