In some respects, rather well. I mentioned that ALSC had begun this wiki back in February and I was curious to see if it had changed significantly since then. I was impressed by the Research portion and even the selection discussing Websites for Learning or Improving Computer Application Techniques. But with others, as with the Legislation page, I worry that good information is erased and edited by people wanting to sell their wares. This is the fear of any wiki page, of course, but it's a pity it had to happen here. And what an odd site for them to try and take over too!
Mind you, by the time you see it it'll probably change again. Ah, the sweet shifting Internet.

Well we're just all over School Library Journal these days, aren't we? The fine n' fab Kelly Herold's wiki novel Witches and Wiki has made a nice little article in SLJ. Hopefully this will give the book the boost in contributors it needs. I haven't, admittedly, added much since the first two days I played with it but I have been watching it with interest. Go be better than me.
Plus, anyone else think Chapter One's too short? Someone needs to do something about that.
Thanks to author Lauren Barack for the shout-out.

We're off topic but since this involves (A) Reading and (B) Children, then I figure I'm halfway there anyway.
Toy instructions. Horrible horrible toy instructions. A birthday or gift-giving holiday of some sort is coming up and you are sitting at the dining room table faced with 5,000 pieces of something and (bum bum bum) toy instructions. To whom do you turn for help?
Consider then the Toy Instructions Wiki. Yet another example of why wikis are so doggone important in this world. Now the problem with promoting new wikis is that in their infancy they don't contain much content. To give them content, they need to be advertised. But in advertising them, you have to face the fact that they don't have much content. And around and around it goes. If you happen to have a secret toy instruction you've been hoarding over the years, now's the time to share.

Has anyone taken a close look at Kelly Herold's children's literature wiki lately? In a fit of fun I posted some stuff involving a kid named Moctor Fall (actual patron name) and before you know it someone (or perhaps a group of someones) created an entire page o' text. If I don't miss my mark, this seems to be going remarkably well. Now I'm getting a little interested in the trials of the unfortunate Mr. Fall. Please put your creative juices to the test by mucking with the story yourself.

One minute I'm saying one thing, and the next I've done a 180 and I'm saying another. Oh, fickle blogger me. So basically, I'm deeply amused by the whole idea of a wiki novel. I even thought how odd it would be if someone were to create a children's wiki book. Little did I know that Kelly Herold at Big A little a was way ahead of me there. As you can see from her posting, she gave it a little boost and then encourages anyone who wants to help write it to give her your e-mail address and away you'll go. I played around with it a little yesterday, which was fun. Give it a whirl if you've the yen.

It's a wikiworld and we're just living in it.
Yes, human civilization has reached the point where we are so advanced that publishers like Penguin can set up the very first wikinovel for interested parties to play with.
Penguin, which embarked on the project with a group of creative writing and new media students, says it is using the novel as a test of whether a group of disparate and diverse people can create a "believable fictional voice."It's called A Million Penguins. In a perfect world this would mean that it's a sequel to 365 Penguins. No such luck. As it is, it contains thus far such stirring sentiments as, "Pity that she was unable to dance as well as she could have but what can one do? He took the dress off his victim as a keepsake, so that he can relive the dance they shared." I love it when they change tense midstream, don't you? Ah, but this is too easy to make fun of. I think we should create a wiki children's novel in retaliation. We'd have to set some ground rules like, "No ripping off J.K. Rowling. No ripping off Roald Dahl. No ripping off Laura Amy Schlitz," and so forth. But I think it'd be fun. Food for thought.
"This is an experiment. It may end up like reading a bowl of alphabet spaghetti," Jeremy Ettinghausen, head of digital publishing at Penguin UK said, adding there were no plans as yet to publish the completed work.

What a nice surprise! Thanks for the link.
We are getting a lot of traffic but no contributions yet. We are, ironically, getting a bit of user input by browsing the searched-for items in our site stats, and work to add info based on what people are looking for. Sort of a back-door route to interactivity, but it works!
We will be drumming up major karmic transfers to anyone who scans and posts their own instructions for odd toys to Flickr and labels them "toyinstructions" - do so and we will find your instructions and post a link to the site!
