7. One more for the road

One last image for this month's challenge. Parts of this painting are so thick with paint, I'm afraid they will peel off. I'm still kind of circling around traditional watercolour technique not having enough skill to get it right the first time. I'm so much more at home with techniques with which I can change my mind at any point. That's exactly why I'm doing these watercolours.

8. Monthly competition

More watercolour. I tried scratching on this one and was surprised at how effective it can be when it's done at the right time. This was done from a random reference picture, which is a fun way to do excercises - you never know what you're going to get!

10. Grow

This was my entry for Illustration Friday's 'grow' theme. I was going to skip that week but I'm a illo-holic. So I thought about growing and when there might be be a time someone wanted to grow and thought of this. I drew a quick little girl and sign in pencil, inked it, and scanned it. That took 10 minutes. Then I created layers in PhotoShop, selected the background of the illo and inverted the selection. I copied it and made it the top layer and then painted it. Then I searched for a photo of a roller coaster and a photo of paper texture. I added the paper texture to the background and shaded it. Then I cropped the roller coaster photo to where I wanted it and layed it over the paper texture, changing the size to where I liked it. I changed the coaster layer to "multiply" and the opacity to 60% which gave it that nice aged feel. All that took about a half an hour, making the total time spent on the illo 40 minutes.

11. Open Gallery Show

The Illustration Friday Show at Open

Illustration Friday and Open Book Store are showcasing twenty-five IF-community-chosen artists at the first ever Illustration Friday gallery show!

The show begins November 3rd and runs through January 20th.

Open is located at 2226 E. 4th St. in Long Beach, CA.

The IF community created 678 total entries out of which 25 were chosen by IF artists to be in the show.

This is my "open" illustration that will be in the show, thanks to the votes of people like you! Thank you, my friends! I will post photos of the opening.

18. Ebony Man

When I was 14, my dad went to South Africa. Amongst all souvenirs he brought us, one of them really caught my eyes; some ebony statue. It talked so plainly to me with a full head and an empty stomach. I did this drawing based on that. Hope you like it.

22. I Can't Reach : An Answer To My Recent CravingS

I’ve been feeling “Foody” recently; have tried to work on some delicious ideas! Well it’s not like am not thinking about it every other day! Anyways…as you know am developing a new style to work on. So far not many liked it which is fine really, as I said it still needs to be trimmed. I hope someone will notice my hard work and appreciate it someday!!!!

My Summer course will be finished in next few days which means I have to work my a** off! I guess it’s the price you should pay to become someone!

Wish me luck!

23. Setting: Alliance-friendly bar on U Day

"I got words."

I start my new job Wednesday. Well, I learn how to become oriented (?) as a New Employee Wednesday. I am ... excited? eager? Don't quite know. I'm not nearly as worked up as I was when I started my first classroom teaching job. Then again, I'm not "it" this time around. I get to learn and absorb and be challenged without having to be in charge. And I will be in a library. I've had more fun these last few weeks of summer having random conversations with my camp kids, my Sylvan kids, co-workers' kids about books. This is happiness in a career: when your bliss happens to be your livelihood.

However, I may be in a small amount of denial about four days a week at the library, one day a week at Vanderbilt and two grad courses on the side! I think it'll be okay. I'm actually looking forward to the online courses. I've been in undergrad/grad school for close to ten years now. I know what a classroom looks like and the dynamics of personal interaction. I got it. Bryn's little introverted self is really relishing being able to hide behind her computer and pipe up only when necessary. Oh, and blowing some UT orange socks off with her insightful papers, of course.

So, a toast. Here's to new adventures, new challenges, time management and a steady stream of stories.

25. zhm- MOONless

No, no, no… the end of the story is not exactly as you think…

The little mouse, right now not so little as you can see, had planned to eat the whole moon. That would be so easy for such a hungry mouse….but he needed to get up there in the first place. But as soon as he went to search for a leader, the moon, who had envisioned her future, escaped as fast as possible (you can actually see her very far away… the fat point is not a star…but our scared moon!)So why is our fellow so big if he didn’t eat the moon…simply because as he was returning the leader to its place he saw a huge cheese block at he neighbor’s house….and this cheese couldn’t escape his hunger…ha-haHappy ending? I guess not so happy for the loving couple; with no moon, the father considered the night was not romantic anymore…so he went to watch TV while the mother is still trying to figure out what happened….

(if you didn't see part I you've to click here MOON)
