11. Underground - Mind the Gap

In the tube, in London, they often warn you to "Mind the Gap." The Gap is usually there, when you're not minding him, but never seen.

20. My Moo Cards arrived

My Moo.com Cards arrived today. I'd recommend this service, they can really easily import all your illustrations into your order (right from your blogger or flickr account! Nice), and you can get 100 different cards to hand out to promote your illustration/blog/business/self. There so little, and a bit narrow, but quite cool. It took about a week and a half, I think they come from Germany. It was $19.99 plus $7 shipping. Not bad for a cheap promo. The stock is nice and it has a nice dull aqueous coating. I hear there's a trading community on Flickr too. Have fun! Here's a link to them... M o o

21. Happy Valentime's Day.

I couldn't resist a little afternoon helium love session... These two are star-struck and seem to be floating in heaven, aw... young love. As a bonus, cause I feel like sharing the love, I have a video of their making (I did the illustration in Painter) in Flash here: Balloon Love by Cardona

Or in Quicktime here: Balloon Lovers in Q.T. HAve a great romantic evening everyone! Gotta go watch Lost with my sweetie and a bottle of Port now...

Oh - and when I was a kid I thought it was pronounced ValenTIMES day. Made sense to me that way for some reason.

23. Smiley the Octopus

Smiley the Octopus, created in Painter.

Hi, my name is Richard Cardona, and I am addicted to creating stuff. This is my first post on this excellent site. (I hope the first post of a long string of many) I'm excited to be a part of this community, and am really inspired by the artists posting here every day. I am a painter, printmaker and also own a small marketing design company called hypno. I tend to be all over the place stylistically, as you can tell by my work on my site. Jeff told me to post a little info about myself, so there you have it. You can get the full scoop at my website: Richard Cardona. Thanks!

24. Half Beast

I've always empathized with the Minotaur. That's probably a guy thing... Anyway, this one's probably not too ferocious.

PS. - I just remembered his girl friend lives in New Jersey, another half beast for another Illo site. ha!

25. Hidden Message

This was from an exhibition I had a few years ago. It's a digital composition of other drawings and mixed media collages that were in the show. At that time I was interested in text generated automatically being used as a component of the paintings.

I used this site to generate the text The Postmodernism Generator which was then typeset and printed onto maps, and other translucent papers, and collaged together. I was more interested in people's readings of these, and their interpretations, than in what the text actually said. That text is gibberish by the way, except for the hand painted text which has (some) meaning. The postmodernism generator reminded me a lot of what I would hear in grad school studio crits, so it also serves as a bit of ironic parody. (Which sounds a bit like gibberish too).
