About the Author
My path to publication was a long and indirect one. I graduated from the University of Scranton with an accounting degree and followed that up with a law degree from Georgetown. While I toyed with the idea of writing, the bug didn't officially bite until about six years ago. My second full manuscript became THE WEIGHT OF ZERO. It was awarded the 2014 SCBWI Work-in-Progress Grant in the Contemporary YA category and also named a finalist in the 2015 Tassey-Walden Awards Contest. Right now, I'm working on my next YA novel with a little help from my dogs!

Yesterday How to Disappear had a good cover; today it has a great one, and I’m thrilled to reveal it on YABC!
How to Disappear is a dark, twisty psychological thriller. The story is told in chapters that alternate between the voices of Nicolette, a resilient small-town cheerleader on the run, and Jack, the Las Vegas hit man’s son who’s blackmailed into tracking her down and getting rid of her.
It’s not completely clear which one we should be rooting for. Because nothing in this story is exactly as it seems. Nicolette’s harmless wild streak might not be so harmless. Jack’s conscience might be more than theoretical. Both of them have a lot to hide. And neither one is telling the whole truth.
What I love about this new cover is that, in addition to being beautiful, it offers up a mysterious image of a girl we can’t fully see, whose features are consumed by darkness, and who is obscured by a welter of scratches – an image that can be interpreted in several different was all of which work with the story. Her face is illuminated by the glow of a flash of light; she might be moving toward it, but she isn’t there yet…I don’t think I can go any further with this without publishing a giant spoiler, so I’ll refrain.
But I am so grateful to my editor and the design team at Simon Pulse for truly understanding the (partly scratched out) face this book should present to readers, to set the tone as they open the book and begin to read.

The image is also evocative of themes and inspirations lurking behind Against All Silence, and it resonates with issues about representation that we still struggle with today. This isn’t a faceless figure or someone hiding behind a mask, but a woman who steps up and tries to speak out – and continues to be silenced, forced to go into hiding. This book explores new identities and the importance of giving everyone a voice, including yourself, when it’s far easier to self-censor. And you thought it was just about computers, conspiracies, and chases!
But that’s not all… Adaptive will soon reveal a new cover for The Silence of Six, redesigned in the same style, which is just as creepy-good as the original!

With a B.A. in English, Erin Summerill had aspirations to write the next great American novel. But writing proved tougher than she first thought, so she grabbed a Nikon and became a professional wedding photographer while she worked on manuscript after manuscript. The scenic detour of shooting weddings across the United States, as well as internationally, provided world-building inspiration. It gave her the vision to draft her debut YA fantasy, EVER THE HUNTED. When she isn’t writing, or shooting a stunning wedding, she’s chasing her four kids, two dogs, one cat, and five chickens. Hello, YABC! I'm so excited to show you the cover of my second YA psychological thriller, NEVER MISSING, NEVER FOUND. This cover went through a few different iterations, but when this particular one hit my inbox, I got that itchy buzz in my brain that means that something has gone wonderfully right (doesn't everybody get that? No? Just me?). I love how the font fades in and out over the shattered glass overlay, a signal as to how broken the protagonist once was (and may still be), and the cover model's creepy stare, a throwback to the cover of my first book, DAMAGE DONE. And the colors! The book is set at a theme park based on Six Flags Great Adventure, where I worked for two summers as a teenager, and the bold color scheme and bright lights are absolutely perfect. I wish you could see the shiny bits scattered over it too, but that'll have to wait until you have the book in your hands. I absolutely can't wait to share it with you!

Can I just add that I also adore this cover for sooo perfectly referencing a scene from the book where Aubree first rebels and ditches the bus tour itinerary she’s been given to fangirl her passengers through all the Sound of Music sights in Salzburg, Austria. The hilltop where Fraulein Maria does her spinning in the movie is private property, so they have to sneak up there, but it’s worth a little law breaking… (And extra kudos to cover designer Kate Engbring for such swoony sunset colors.) I hope you guys love it as much as I do!
