STELLA! STELLLAAAA!!
Sorry. We have a tendency to let out our inner Marlon Brando every time we see the name Stella. We'll stop now.
Back to the book, which is by far one of the funniest collections of dog poems to date. We howled with delight at Stella's sly observations, like the following about the baby in her household:
Strange little creature.
Interesting scent.
No bark, but it surely can wail.
Not very toothy.
Frequently drools.
Cannot be trusted near tail.
It's entirely possible that when Linda Ashman is not writing fabulous poetry she is digging up bones in her yard or sniffing fire hydrants. How else can you explain these perfectly pooch-like poems? If we ever meet Linda (and gosh, we'd sure like to) we hope to shake her paw--er, hand--and congratulate her for a collection that is both funny and sweet.
While we're sure kids will love this book, we can also see giving this to a dog-loving Dad or Grad. We give it five tennis balls.
