A Fussy Girl's Guide to All Things Irresistible

"And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer." ~F. Scott Fitzgerald

Down the street from Camp MoneyPit there remains a dark pile of leftover winter...seriously there is still a snowbank left behind from the snowfarm that once was and we thought always would be...but now we start the wonderful process of  thinking summer! Snow shovels, ice dams, rock salt, Sorels and scarves no more... this is the weekend we start to dial it all back. Memorial Day is a mind marker, doesn't matter what the weather is- this is when we shift down a bit and put our heads toward flip flops, front porches, ceiling fans, the sound of baseball... the top comes down on the car and the spiders get cleared out of the grills. This is the weekend when the closets get turned over, the heavy sweaters, coats and mittens go in back, the espadrilles and Jacks come out of their boxes and the toes get painted a happy coral pink.  The garden awaits...it loved the snow!  Every branch is waking and bursting .  The courtyard furniture will shed its leaf coated dust covers and at long last come out of hibernation.

"Summer is the time when one sheds one's tensions with one's clothes, and the right kind of day is jeweled balm for the battered spirit.  A few of those days and you can become drunk with the belief that all's right with the world." ~Ada Louise Huxtable

The real first day of summer is almost a month away on June 21 but that doesn't stop us from starting to flip that switch and shift into a different gear.
Now it isn't as if the deadlines stop or that work doesn't have to happen, but we all tend to take it all in easier stride from here til the end of August.

Somehow no matter how old we are when the last days of school arrive, doesn't matter if we don't even know anyone in school, we all come out to play.
Long stretches of daylight without watches or calendars, books that can finally get read, toes that will sink into the sand, and nights that
don't start til after bedtime help our summer spirit thrive.

“Summertime is always the best of what might be.” -Charles Bowden

When it comes to summer we all become kids again, and no matter what the desk holds we still look out the window, watch the sprinklers, kick off the shoes and know that whatever the work pile may be it will all be there tomorrow-just save it for a rainy day because summer is a state of mind and that state is now open for the season.

" Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time." -John Lubbock
