1. Who Loves Fangs?

Now the owner of a flurishing publishing company, Mystic Press, and some kick ass authors signed, we are on our way to the birhgt lights. Zaphyre Marketing and Public Relations is going the distance too, with authors like Deborah Noel and Bonnie Bernard wanting blog tours and book trailers. This small town girl who had a big dream is having them ALL come true.

But running a publishing company and a pr company their are certain people you need on your team to make things happen. One of those members is the graphic artist Must Love Fangs (Karrie) who has rocked out not only my books covers, but M.R. Murphy's upcoming paranormal romance Ever Mine, and did all the new imprints/logos for Mystic and Zaphyre. This girl rocks ll the way.

So what I wanted to do is give back and show the world her work, get her some exposure for herself, because it is well deserved. She is very talented and has an eye for detail, plus she will doing as many drafts as it takes to make sure she gets it right. She is super sweet and a wonderful part of both companies.  So, I wanted to do an interview, get to know her a little bit and of course show off some of her amazing work.

Let me introduce you to Must Love Fangs:

In 500-700 words tell us a little about yourself, your interests, whether its music movies or whatever.

Well, I live and grew up in the south.  I am very close to my family and I’ve had the same best friend for 15 years.  I am a laid back easy going type of person.  I tend to laugh at myself.  Like many people, when I was growing up in school I thought I had a plan all laid out.  Again like many others, life happens and we end up where we are meant to be not where we want to be.  I am currently a stay at home mother and a student.  I really didn’t know what my interest or passions were until about two years ago.  I was swept away by a book.  Since then I am always reading; one book right after another.  I fell in love with the Black Dagger Brotherhood series and all of its characters.  I love music and listen to just about anything, as long as I can move to it.  Movies are great but the book is nine times out of ten better.  I don’t know if others are like me but I love them both; just look at them as separate things.  Like the twilight saga.  I love the books and like the movies (I know some may view me as a dork, what can I say).  I also love True Blood.  Something about hot guys with powers (grin); the Southern Vampire series by Charlaine Harris was great.   To me they are two different things.  Editing and composing photos grown into a passion.  I love being able to create something out of nothing or combining things and making something amazing.   My style isn’t as sci-fi or graphic as some.  When creating a piece I look at it thinking what would the viewer get out of it would they see or feel what I was seeing or feeling.

Has art/photography always been a great love of yours?

Yes.  I drove family member’s nuts with a Polaroid camera when I was young.  I wouldn’t just take the normal say cheese and smile picture.  I would take pictures of leaves with the sun shining through them.  It was the same way with actual art like drawing and painting.  I always did abstract artwork rather than the simple to understand picture.

How did you come about creating these beautiful works of art?

It was about two years ago.  I found some free online editing site and used it to combine three or four different pictures so that they changed into something new and amazing and it all went from there.  I will think of something in my head and try my hardest to put the picture together or I will see a picture and it will trigger wanting to add more to it or change it in some way.

Outside creating these amazing pieces, do you have any other interests that spark your creative side?

Reading and music are two of the biggest sparks.  Hearing something and wanting to put a picture to it or reading a book and wanting to make an image for it or for a character or how they book made me feel.  I think we are changed with each book in some way.  Even if it’s simply changing our emotions for a little while.

So, seeing that you have interests in the paranormal world, have to ask, what are you favorite supernatural creatures? Shows? Movies? And if you could have any of their talents what would you pick?

Ah, that’s the best question.  I would have to say my favorite paranormal show is True Blood, and as much as I hate sometimes to admit it I love the Twilight Movies.  Other great ones are Underworld, Resident Evil, and another all time favorite would be I Am Legend.  If I had to pick one supernatural creature it would be a vampire/werewolf hybrid, sorry it is very hard to choose.  I would love to have a vampire’s immortality, strength, or speed.

How does it make you feel when an author or someone approaches you to use your work and be recognized for what you do?

I am completely honored when someone wants to use my work or asks me to work on a piece for them.  It is the best feeling being able to help someone achieve their dream by working on a cover and being a reader’s first impression of an author.  That’s why I am fine doing as many edits as an author needs in order to achieve what they are looking for.

How does something like this work? Do you contact models for the pieces then go from there…what’s involved when creating something like this? Do you do things from scratch or get stock?

It is actually a little of everything.  Most of the time for a piece the person already has a picture in their head and maybe even examples or their own pictures they wanted edited.  I also have my own stock and purchased stock.  Pieces from scratch are the funniest because it gives me a blank canvas and an idea to go with.

How long have you been doing this? It’s obviously something you enjoy doing.

I’ve been editing and compiling photos for about two years now.  Only recently did I decide to put them out into the cyber world after some pushing from friends.

Is there anything else you would like to add, or give any links to your work or galleries so others can see your talent? Is your work available for purchase in case someone wanted to buy a piece from your collection and hang it on their wall?

I am working on a blog to mostly show off work.  The site is mustlovefangsart.blogspot.com, there are links there to my Facebook galleries as well as my contact information.  Of course, most of my work is available for purchase or editing for other pieces.

Here are some pieces she picked out and of course I included the book covers she recently did for Mystic Press:
