Well, the angel painting I had been working on was actually finished a few weeks ago, and I have been waiting for the chance to get it photographed properly before showing any more of it, and now that has duly been done, so the next stage is to get prints made of it....and proceed with the follow-up paintings in the series I have planned.
All the time I was working on the painting it had a working title of Dark Angel, but now it is finished I have called it 'The Blueprint'. Which will be quite funny when the prints are done as there is so much blue in the painting....but of course the title refers to what the angel holds in her left hand. But I'm only going to tease you for now with a detail shot, so you can't quite see what the blueprint is, that is for another day, but it won't be any great surprise I guess!
'Crudelius est quam mori semper timere mortem' is a fabulous quote by the Roman philosopher Seneca, and it means 'it is more cruel to always fear death than to die'. As a motorcyclist I am always amazed or amused by the concerns of non-bikers who, when they hear how you travel about, are immediately drawn to their own perceived danger of bikes and seem to assume you must always carry this dread fear with you for every inch you are riding, while actually absolutely nothing could be further from the truth - whilst riding all you feel is absolute control of the bike, a one-ness with it and the road, and with that feeling of control your mind as rider is focussed entirely on the moment, and you feel safer and happier than non-bikers could believe. They say you never see a motorcycle outside a psychiatrists office! Fear, if it comes, would be momentary, and, true, it could very well be a last moment, we are aware of that, but while riding it isn't a thought, and that is better than living in fear of death forever until it comes - by whatever means.
So the quote seemed an apt one for my angel who has fallen for bikes. And, as I was at the stage of my latest bike build of painting the tank when I was painting the motto as a tattoo across her shoulders, I decided it would be an apt thing to include in the bike paint scheme. I include here a snapshot of the tank after I had airbrushed the wording on it, there will be more pictures of it when I have the tank back from being clear coated in a few days time. And ultimately I hope to launch prints of 'The Blueprint' at the same time that the bike is finished.
And finally here is the detail of my latest angel, in her Elizabethan-inspired bodice, holding the blueprint she has discovered. The area of this detail on the original is about 4" x 8". More soon :-)
