1. 6 Reasons to go to A Writer’s Conference

What can a writer’s conference do for you?

Writer’s conferences are a great way to connect with the publishing world. But don’t purchase an airline ticket yet…first research your local area about conferences and seminars for writers. Call your local college or Adult Education course to check for events in your area. TBe aware there are some conferences aimed to lure as many aspiring authors as possible with big-name superstars, or with agents & editors who participate only on the condition that they MUST request a specified percentage of conferees’ submitted material — whether or not they’re genuinely interested. Look for workshops that offer specifically what you are looking for…do you want to learn how to start writing a book? Finish a book? Are you searching for literary agents, publishers, self-publishing, releasing POD or choosing eBook-only distribution. Regardless of level or ultimate objective, writers are confronted by a dizzying array of options, opportunities, distractions and potentially disastrous decisions that must be made during each stage of a manuscript’s evolution.

Conferences should be able to:

1. SOLVE problematic aspects of your manuscript through the troubleshooting efforts of accomplished authors, editors and agents

2. INTERACT with working professionals from the publishing, film, and transmedia industries in a uniquely accessible environment

3. EMPOWER yourself with the tools and tactics needed to succeed in today’s expanding transmedia marketplace

4. VALIDATE your writing accomplishments through the empirically qualified recognition of peers

5. STOP first-tier rejection (or rejection out-of-hand) by agents and acquisition editors with the tools of fine-tuned authorial enticement

6. ENGAGE others in the greater writing .COMmunity to forge lasting friendships and valuable contacts
