Good art can be a little dark and disturbing. In the case of a new exhibition at the Whitney Library Gallery, it can also be classified as creepy, spooky, kooky, mysterious and more than a little fun. The show features dark drawings and haunting images, much of them from a new children's book, "The Stumps of Flattop Hill," by Las Vegas-based author Kenneth Kit Lamug.
TIME reports that other members of the cast include Helena Bonham Carter as The Red Queen, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen, and Sacha Baron Cohen as Time. This film adaptation, a sequel to Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, comes out May 27, 2016.

Ransom Riggs has signed a two-book deal with the Penguin Young Readers imprint, Dutton Children’s Books. He (pictured, via) has become well-known as the author behind the Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children trilogy.
For the first book, Riggs intends to write an illustrated collection of fairy tales set in the Peregrine universe entitled Tales of the Peculiar. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Riggs’ second book under the deal will be an all-new YA story not connected to the Peregrine series.”
Julie Strauss-Gabel, vice president and publisher, negotiated the deal with Jodi Reamer, a literary agent at Writers House. Strauss-Gabel will edit Riggs’ manuscripts. Entertainment Weekly reports that the publication date for the fairy tale book has been set for Fall 2016. The Tim Burton-helmed film adaptation of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will hit theaters in Dec. 2016. (via Bustle)

You’ve all heard the story, in the late 90’s, Tim Burton was scheduled to direct a Superman film entitled Superman Lives, which was to be written by Kevin Smith and star Nicolas Cage as the Man of Steel.
It was to be a radically different take on Superman that makes Man of Steel look traditional by comparison. It also never came to be for a number of different reasons. With The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?, a new documentary by AMC Movie Talk’s Jon Schnepp, this fascinating chapter in this history of DC’s biggest icon is explored in depth.
Check out the trailer below for the film, which opens in select theaters on May 1st and expands on July 9th.
The Death of “Superman Lives”: What Happened? delves into one of Hollywood’s most enthralling ‘what could have been’ stories. In 1996, Warner Brothers engaged Kevin Smith to write the screenplay (‘Superman Lives’). Director Tim Burton assembled an elite group of artists to work on Superman Lives, including Nicolas Cage as Superman. Warner Brothers scrapped the project shortly before principal photography began.
This documentary, directed by Jon Schnepp, features interviews with director Tim Burton; producers Jon Peters and Lorenzo diBonaventura; screenwriters Kevin Smith, Wesley Strick, and Dan Gilroy; production designer Rick Heinrichs; special effects artist Steve Johnson; storyboard artist Tim Burgard; costume designer Colleen Atwood, and many more. This film delivers an inside look into what would have been the most original, unexpected and cosmic Superman movie ever made.
Sounds like something I need to see. On a related note, Superman vs. Hollywood is a great book that digs into this subject and all of the projects that came before and after (stopping short of Man of Steel).

Michael Keaton finally had his big comeback year in 2014. With Birdman, and his very meta portrayal of a washed-up superhero actor, Keaton now finds himself as a leading contender for the Academy Award for Best Actor.
Recently, he sat down with EPIX, along with some of his fellow competition for the award: Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game), Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything), and Steve Carrell (Foxcatcher). Robert Downey Jr. was also in attendance for the roundtable interview.
At one point during the interview, the topic of Keaton’s wearing the Batsuit came up, from his days in Tim Burton’s Batman films, and Keaton’s addressing the topic is as entertaining as ever:
michael keaton is awesome! :) he needs to get back into movies, asap!

Michael Keaton never left movies. Have you seen BIRDMAN? It’s superb, and Keaton deserves the Best Actor nomination he’ll surely get. Knowing the Academy’s tastes, though, he’ll probably lose to some Brit.
John August has signed on to write the script for a film adaptation of Alvin Schwartz’sScary Stories To Tell In The Dark.
August frequently collaborates with Tim Burton. Two of those movies were created for child audiences, The Corpse Bride (2005)and Frankenweenie (2012). At the moment, no director has been hired for this project.
Here’s more from Deadline: “The three-book children’s series that’s sold more than 7 million copies worldwide began with 1981′s Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark, continuing with More Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark (1984) and Scary Stories 3: More Tales To Chill Your Bones(1991). The collection of folk tales and urban legends also memorably haunted generations of youngsters with its surreal and nightmarish illustrations by award-winning artist Stephen Gammell.”
and i couldn't be happier with this company, nuvango.
when first uploading my work i and some issues with the SRGB profiles, apparently the pics i uploaded were not in the correct format. well, they were unbelievably helpful and just wonderful to work with....helping me through everything step by step. and the payoff? gorgeous. the phone cover fits like a glove and the color payoff is like looking at the original canvas, sitting in my studio.
so....i highly recommend nuvango for phone cases, laptop skins and lots of other cool treats.
{i know this is seasonal, but i love it so much i may have to keep it on year 'round! :)}

so happy to finally share this painting...considering it's been done for a couple of weeks already. was trying to wait closer to october, but i couldn't wait any longer!
based on my FAVORITE tim burton character ever (from the nightmare before christmas), the sweetly shy seamstress filled with fall leaves, sally...and her faithful black kitty companion. together they are clearly "moonstruck". :)

{new painting in the works AND it contains one of my favorite characters ever!:)}
oh, and the nightmare before christmas painting is done and waiting to be posted. trying to wait til at least the last week in september to post it, as it's more of a halloween piece. can't wait to share it!
until then, here's a peek at the full sketch, entitled "moonstruck"...featuring sally and her beloved black cat. (yes, i drew AND painted a cat. those who really know me what a feat that was..."feat" being the understatement of the year. let's just say i'm more of a dog person...)
here's a peek at some crops of my painting (in progress) entitled, "moonstruck"...featuring the very beautiful and bashful, sally from tim burton's masterpiece, the nightmare before christmas.
yes, that is a cat. for those who know me, well nothing more needs to be said except "deep breaths". i thought if i made *it* cute, i'd be able to overcome my fear....well, for as long as it takes me to complete the painting anyway.
a peek at what's up next on the easel. can you guess who she is?
{hint-she's a red head (yay!). super shy. super sweet. stuffed with fall leaves...and is the female love interest of a certain skeleton by the name of jack.}
video below...just in case you couldn't figure it out. one of my favorite movies of all time! :)
