About JacketFlap.com
Overview

JacketFlap is a comprehensive educational resource for chldren's literacy and the children's book industry. Thousands of published authors, illustrators, librarians, agents, editors, publicists, student, and publishers visit JacketFlap every day.

Children's Publisher Database

If you are looking to learn about publishing children's books, you have come to the right place. JacketFlap has the world's largest database of information on children's book publishers. The searchable database helps writers most optimally find the publishers that are publishing new authors and that publish titles in the writer's category of work. What separates this resource from others is that in addition to contact information, the site continuously compiles valuable statistics about the publishers. As a result, JacketFlap contains up-to-date information on practically every children's book publisher in the business. At last count, there are more than 32,000 publishers in the JacketFlap.com database. There are publishers large and small in our database, and you can see where a publisher ranks on each's publisher's Publisher Detail page. In addition to children's publisher statistics, the site contains contact information and submission guidelines for thousands of the publishers in the system. Best of all, the contact information is kept current by the book publishers and information submitted by the site's users.

Children's Publishing Blog Reader

Similar in many ways to news aggregators, JacketFlap's Blog Reader lets you view posts from many blogs on a single page, without having to visit all of the different blog sites individually to check for updates. The posts include the blogger's tags/labels, e.g. "reviews", "awards", etc., and the tags are clickable so you can quickly navigate all posts on a certain topic across the 500+ publishing-related blogs featured on JacketFlap. There is a search engine so you can search for a topic within a blog or across all blogs. JacketFlap's Blog Reader also displays each blog's original comments within the reader, and you can sort the blog posts by those with the most comments, allowing you to quickly find hot topics. Registered JacketFlap members can add favorite blogs to your custom My JacketFlap blog list, allowing you to keep up with all your favorite blogs and comments in one place. We also allow you to optionally see just the posts and comments that are new since your last visit.

For Writers and Illustrators

This site helps writers and illustrators by making the process of researching publishers and submitting manuscripts and illustrations better. It also provides a community where you can meet and network with thousands of other people in children's publishing industry. You can also feature your books and your art on your free profile page.

Within our publisher database, writers and illustrators are able to see at-a-glance the subject categories, the number of annual titles, and the number of new authors that the publisher has published over the past 5 years. If you are an unpublished writer and have written a book about horses, a publisher of religious books with a track record of publishing very few new authors is not for you. You can research the types of titles this publisher has published, and they are all here, ranked by sales. If you want more information about a book, you are only a single click away from being able to review everything about a book on its Book Detail page. The publisher search helps you find publishers that match your target profile and provides the background research, contact information and guidelines you need to look professional when you send in your book. If you find that you have contact information that is more up-to-date than what is on the site, use the add / edit links to submit the updated information, and we'll reward you with points that you can redeem for Amazon.com or BookSense gift certificates. Be sure to register with the site (it's FREE) so you can see the detailed contact information for each publisher as well as receive credit for your contact information submissions.

For Publishers and Editors

For publishers, the site should help reduce the volume of inappropriately targeted unsolicited manuscripts and letters. Publishers are able to directly edit their contact information and submissions policies. If you are not accepting unsolicited manuscripts or unpublished authors, this site is a perfect way to let writers know your policies. It is also a vehicle to tell writers what subjects are currently of interest. If you are a publisher, please register to set up a user account, then email [email protected] with your JacketFlap user name and the name of your publishing company. We will associate your user account with your company, allowing you to update your JacketFlap publisher detail page without waiting for our review of your changes.

For Librarians

For Librarians, JacketFlap provides a searchable database containing practically every children's book that has ever been published. You can look for authors and illustrators that might be interested in a library visit by searching our member directory by city, state, or country.

For Students

For Students, JacketFlap provides a searchable database of biographical information on authors, illustrators, and other people involved in creating children's books. For example, this can help you in learning about an author that interests you or in finding additional work by that author.

About the CEO

Tracy Grand is the CEO of JacketFlap. She has a passion for children's literature and public school education. Through her interactions with groups like SCBWI, Tracy saw the need for a central resource about children's books and the people who create them. JacketFlap was created to fulfill that need. Since 1994, Tracy has been a pioneer in marketing research, measurement, and information resources on the Internet. In 1998, Tracy's company Word of Net created the Visibility Index, which measured the visibility of websites and was published as a regular feature in AdAge Magazine. Word of Net pioneered many of the search engine Internet marketing tools in use today. The company was acquired by Inceptor. Tracy was on the children's educational advisory board for the Geffen Theater in Los Angeles, CA. She supports and served as co-chair of Milk and Bookies, an organization that donates books to children of low-income families. In addition to her role at JacketFlap, Tracy is running for LAUSD School Board District 4 in the election on March 7, 2017. Tracy is a wife and the mother of three girls, and she lives in Los Angeles, CA.
