2. BAD BLOGGER!!

{hangs head in shame:( }

crazy last couple of weeks....between a commission, matting and framing prints for some friends who are always kind enough to buy my work for their littles and a pretty intense flare up in my right arm from all the osteoarthritis, radiculopathy, nerve damage and chronic inflammation in my cervical spine (something i know i rarely talk about in this blog) after three neck surgeries. i guess i've always been one to try and not dwell on the not so positive stuff but perhaps it helps others who deal with pain just to follow their biggest and most loved passion. there is (and always will be) a FERAL need in me to create. maybe you have to be an artist to really get it. you just can't live without out. really. so, apologies for the lack of posts but if you know me personally, you know my drive far outweighs my tiny stature. in the words of my favorite Pixar film, Meet the Robinsons, "KEEP MOVING FORWARD!!"

now to what i've been up to (besides the pain)...a sweet commission from one of my drawings (FOR SALE HERE) which i turned into a painting for a sweet little ginger. i will be posting the finished painting as well as offering prints of her very soon! you'll have to check back and see...;)

here are some WIP pics as well as a cute little blue penguin i sketched...just because.

3. a sweet little duet....

autumn serenade
6x6, mixed media on canvas panel

between a cute little bird and a wide eyed baby bear...an "autumn serenade".

this is the second (but it sure won't be the last) piece i created this summer when i was trying my hand at mixed media. can i just tell you what a total blast it was creating this piece?! so much fun and a bit out of the box for me as i am a SUPER DUPER AWESOME planner. seriously. it's one of my finer traits....i think so, anyway. ;) this little creation was kind of spontaneous....kind of....

i knew i wanted to do a bear with an autumn color scheme. the rest just kind of happened the more i kept adding different layers, different supplies...and, being my absolute own worst critic well, i'm rather pleased with the way it turned out. i mean, c'mon..look at the face on the baby bear...you just gotta love him. :)

PRINTS available here. ORIGINAL PAINTING is FOR SALE. contact me here if interested.

also, here's a link to sweet ophelia...a colorful owl done in this same mixed media style.

perhaps 2017 will bring about some more of these little *experiments*....

6. throwback Thursday to one of my favorite drawings....

glacia
6x8 graphite on bristol
and my current WIP/commission.

let me start by saying i always consider any/every commission a blessing but when they are back to back really kind wonderful clients, well that just makes the "blessing" so much sweeter.

a couple of weeks ago the sweetest lady came to me wanting to completely redo her daughter's bedroom based on a few of my drawings (really?! this is really my life?! hashtag-blessed) and wanted this particular drawing turned into a painting because it looks smooch like her adorable little girl who happens to be a "budding artist" herself. i wound up selling her some prints and taking on this commission...painting her ginger haired, december born baby girl (ginger...winter...december...three of my favorite things....destiny, indeed).

this is and always has been (and always will be) my philosophy...treat your customers like friends, make personal connections with them and they will come back to you time and time again. always staying true to myself...

"Nicole has been absolutely fantastic to work with! She is extremely responsive and has really worked with us to accommodate our special requests. The prints we ordered are absolutely beautiful! She shipped them out quickly and were packaged with great care. Nicole is an amazing artist! When you work with her you don't only get a quality product, you get great customer service. We look forward to working with her again!"

thank you, sara...for your kind words, becoming a "friend" and giving me a really good *excuse* to paint a ginger, winter loving little girl.

*LIMITED EDITION PRINTS OF THESE DRAWINGS AVAILABLE HERE...ONLY THROUGH THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER!!

a few weeks ago i had a commission request for a little kokeshi from the sweetest lady via etsy. obsessed with all things japanese/kawaii since birth, well she didn't have to ask me twice. ;) her response to the finished painting made the rest of my year..."That is the cutest thing I have ever seen!! Thank you so much - I am so excited about it. It is perfect colors, perfect sweet girl. Our grandma was Japanese so it means a lot to us to have something to remind us of her!"

10. my first mixed media *experiment*....

ophelia's nocturne
6x6 mixed media on canvas panel
©the enchanted easel 2016
this summer i wanted to try my hand at some small mixed media pieces. i decided to start with a theme of sorts as far as a color palette went....i chose just a few to start with...red, orange, teal and brown. from there two little creatures were born. ophelia here is the first.

mixed media was kind of new for me. i have so many art supplies laying around my home that instead of looking at all of them, well i wanted to try to actually USE them. my paintings/commissions are acrylic on stretched canvas so i never really get to play with my oil pastels or my inks (OMG-can we say "obsessed" now?!) or my tons of scrapbook papers and supplies, etc.

one day i sat down in between commissions and said "what the heck...let's give it a shot!" and so i did...and had a blast doing so. i used everything from paper to water soluble graphite pencils to palette knives to my fingers for this piece. even got some old sheet music from my keyboard ("ophelia" from tori amos to be exact-hence the name of this little owl) and went to town with that. a total blast this was-from start to finish.

PRINTS are available here and the ORIGINAL painting is also AVAILABLE. contact me here if interested. hope you love her as much as i do...owls just say "fall" and "halloween" to me. one of my favorite times of the year!

15. rare beauties

few and far between
4x12, acrylic on canvas
©the enchanted easel 2016

inspired by my love of blue poppies and red heads..."few and far between". my latest painting.

i truly loved painting this one. the 4"x12" was an interesting size for me and one on which i had never before painted. also, the color scheme will go down as one of my favorites. i've always loved red heads. as a little girl, i remember always wanting to have red hair and green eyes (umm, yeah. that might have passed me by, being 110% italian....). ok, back to the painting....

blue poppies. another favorite. last year, on a trip to longwood gardens, i completely fell in love with these rare beauties. talk about GORGEOUS. just made to be painted. my original thought was a watercolor but then my creative little brain thought i'd merge two of my loves into one painting. "few and far between" was born.

PRINTS AVAILABLE HERE. also, coming in a few weeks to my shop will be PENDANT NECKLACES. crafted with my own two little hands. every single one of them. this beauty will be included in those. it's going to be good....:)

16. busy little bee....

these last couple of weeks. working on multiple paintings at once. and that's just the way i like it. :)

for starters, i finally got around to finishing up this little red head beauty. along with some blue poppies, this is one of my favorites. i worked on a 4"x12" canvas...an odd size for me but i wanted to challenge myself, combustion wise. really liking the way it turned out. plus, it included two of my favorite things...red heads and blue poppies. rare beauties, indeed. i'll be sharing the finished piece next week. prints will be available then as well.

also, i've been thinking about doing a small series of mixed media animals for quite a bit. i have SO many art supplies in my home/studio well, it's like Michael's, AC Moore and Dick Blick in on humble little abode. from scrapbook papers to every kind of pencil/paint/pastel known to man....i figured it was time to stop staring at all of them and DO SOMETHING with them. below are some sneak peeks....

hopefully, emerging from all this creative chaos will be a cute series of fall themed animals. stay tuned....

17. Happy World Elephant Day!

a day that should be celebrated everyday, in my opinion. how much more awesome would it have been if it was yesterday on my birthday?! my most favorite animal sharing a special day with me... hmm, i'll have to tell the higher ups to contemplate changing the date perhaps...;)

a crop from my painting Sakura Dreamers. prints available here. I LOVE ELEPHANTS about as much as i love PEYTON MANNING. and THAT my friends is A LOT!!! :)

18. all or nothing!

to know me is to know that i never do anything halfway...all or nothing mentality for me. when i decided that i wanted to make and sell my own pendant necklaces come this september well, naturally i had to design my own little cards on which to place them. thanks, visatprint for yet another bang up job!

sweet pendant necklaces coming this september to my etsy shop. super stoked!

19. my little mixed media *experiment*...

so, last week i was doing some cleaning/organizing (i do that often-major OCD girl here) and i found tons of paper (which i LOVE) and all kind of little art goodies that i had laying around. i decided to stop looking at them (so perfectly organized) taking up space and actually USE them (there's a novel concept...) and now i seem to have gotten myself into a  full fledged mixed media painting.

originally intended to be an abstract...

mixed media fun...

background mix of papers and acrylic....

a tangerine haired mermaid decided she'd like
to be the featured attraction
of the *experiment*...

{'cause i can never just "experiment" (OCD+perfectionist=all or nothing). more pics to follow...in between other paintings, that is.}

20. jack of all trades...

of sorts.

i've been working on these sweet little pendant necklaces lately to add to my shop in september. and needless to say, they definitely come with a bit of a learning curve...and i'm pretty crafty. i'm embarrassed to admit the number of glass cabochons i actually went through until i had a successful outcome. in my defense, it seemed to be the glue (or so i thought) that just wasn't meshing with my inkjet printer. so...

i wound up purchasing a *special* glue which claimed to be THE glue for ink jet printers...no smearing, no bubbles, no color changing. operative word being "claimed." talk about a total disappointment and money wasted (not to mention sheer frustration). while i was purchasing the glue i figured why not purchase some more glass cabochons since i had wasted so many of them. another disaster. 13 out of 25 pieces of glass...BROKEN. the rest, chipped. needless to say, neither of those make for a very happy nicole. however, there is a silver lining....

weeks before i found this little gem (no pun intended) of an etsy shop called pretty charmed. run by a great lady by the name of cheryl. everything perfectly packed. glass cabochons in PERFECT shape. no chips. no breaks. just beautiful crystal clear glass ovals. also the pendant trays and chains to match...perfect. i found it easiest by going with one of her DIY pendant kits. everything you need is included.

for me, i had to forgo the inkjet printer and go to my local staples to have the images printed out on a laser jet printer. the glue just wasn't working out on my inkjet printed images. now everything is good to go and i can add these adorable little pendants to my shop this fall!

{thanks for listening to my little rant about the joys of jewelry making. i'm going back to my paintbrush now...}

25. it's that time again...

that time i usually set aside annually (or biannually in this case) to poke my eyes out and sprout a few more grey hairs than i'd probably like to admit. yes, it's website redo time. my most favorite thing to do. {insert sarcasm...and lots of it}

i digress, as it is something i don't exactly look forward to but am always grateful in the end that i took on. {did i mention i'd SO rather be at the easel...}

so....hopefully in about a week, i'll have a new site (and blog) with a bit of tweaking added in...and a grey hair or two. ;)

i can still be reached for commissions here as i'm working on setting up a new email addy to go with the site. also, my etsy shop is still open with an upcoming SUMMER SALE to be launched soon!

busy as a little buzzing bee (or tiny little tower of power, as i like to call myself ;) )... Read the rest of this post
