1. SPRING IS IN THE AIR?

Good Morning:

I'm back from my morning walk, and found the squirrels were fresh out of their burrows and the woodpeckers were busy doing whatever it is that they do. My own yard is filled with the chit-chat of thankful birds at my just-filled feeders. I can almost feel myself ready to bloom for spring. BUT...I know better than to jump to conclusions, as it is only February. Although we have had lovely days of 80 degree temperatures, the small and hidden logical part in my brain tells me that we are still in for more winter weather. Alas, with each passing day, spring gets one day closer...

I have been fairly busy in my studio lately and have managed to finish 2 collage ACEOs (2-1/2" x 3-1/2" miniature art)

BENNY AND THE SUMMER STORM (sold)

AMELIA BABYSITS THE NEIGHBORS (this is the 3rd "Amelia" aceo in the series).

(Check out the pouting little girl with the blue pixie hat on. That's me when I was a little girl, just getting ready to have one of my royal tantrums)!

I just love working with these vintage photos of "Amelia". I don't know who she is, but I have lots of photos of her, as I adopted a musty box of her family photos at the flea market. I only know her name is Amelia because that's what the back of her pictures say. In each and every photo, she is happy and smiling. I will continue to make more "Amelia" pieces. I am honored to be able to give her photos a new life.

********************************************

I have a handful of little "chores" to do today, but will have time to finish the current collage I'm working on. Gary is home from work today, as it's Lincoln's Birthday. Although he isn't able to enjoy his day off, as he has a terrible cold.

Thanks for stopping by

2. WHAT'S YOUR OPINION? BOY OR GIRL?

Good Morning Friends:

I just wanted to pop by and give you a little peek at my newest ACEO print that I just listed in MY ETSY SHOP.

The Generous Giant

I've always liked this particular ACEO collage because the vintage photo of the little boy/girl that I used is so odd.

Firstly: I think the child was either sick or had a condition of some kind.

Secondly: I'm not sure of the sex of this child. He/she is wearing an obvious "male" outfit, with pants and little boy shoes. BUT... the boy/girl is wearing a large boy in his/her hair.

The original photo is another one of my "obsession photos". I keep a print of the photo on my desk, as I am still studying it. I so wish I knew the real story behind this child and his/her life.

Anyway...this is my newest print. The original was long ago sold.

As always, if you are interested in any of the art you see on my blog, but you don't have an Etsy account, go to my blog profile and give me an email. I'm always more than happy to work with you personally.

At the moment, Gary (my husband) is working on setting up a store for me complete with paypal buttons. It will be attached to this blog. This, I'm sure is in the very distant future!!

Thanks for stopping by.

Until Next Time

3. FINALLY, A NEW, ORIGINAL ACEO LISTED ON ETSY

Good Morning:

I'm off for a busy day of running around. But...I wanted to stop by and post a picture of my newest original ACEO. This is my 201st collage ACEO. Most of what I list on Etsy are prints of long ago sold ACEOs. I've been in such a slump for the last 6 months or so, I hardly ever find myself in my studio. But, I felt like working this week, and I managed to finish an original ~

Sister May And Her Guardian

As some of you know, I have been semi-obsessed with this particular photo for some time:

And...I've used the images in a previous 4" X 6" collage as well~

This little girl fascinates me and I wish I knew her history. I am drawn to her image and I so enjoy using her in my collages and creating new worlds for her.

If you're interested in this particular original ACEO or the print version, they can be found in My Etsy Shop. If you don't have an Etsy account, either can be purchased directly through my blog. Simply go to my profile and send me an email. I'll be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

I'll be back soon with a blog entry NOT entirely dedicated to brutal marketing!!

Until Next Time

4. ONE MORE SUMMER TRIP TO THE BEACH

Good Morning:

We woke up with a lovely break from the heat this morning. It's hazy and cool. The kind of haze that makes all the bright pinks in my garden look three dimensional!!

Autumn is almost in the air, but not enough to turn my back on summer just yet. I'm going to the beach tomorrow come rain or shine. I suppose it will be the last "bikini" visit I'll have until next year. But, that's okay, I enjoy going in the cooler months as well.

The days have marched on and I've yet to produce any new collages, but my intentions are noble anyway. I suppose when the time is right, I'll find my creative self still lurking underneath all this daily busy-ness. I do tend to get more artwork done in winter when there's nothing calling me outdoors. Not much tending to do in my garden, not as many "get-togethers" with my friends, and no weekly trips to the beach. I did manage to get a new collage print listed in My Etsy Shop. It's titled "Rosie's Ranch". It's a 4" x 6" collage print. I do my own printing with high quality inks on Hewlett Packard Premium Plus Photo Paper, and I must say, the combination makes for extremely vibrant colors!!

Rosie's Ranch is one of my many pieces of "Story Art". I love creating collages with a back story....but, they have no ending. I leave the ending up to the buyer. Here's Rosie....

and here's Rosie's story:

"This is Sweet Little Rosie, always light hearted and kind to a fault. Rosie grew up on a rural ranch, soaking up the morning sun while picking her favorite roses. She always remembered to have a treat ready for the elegant swans that lived on the pond.

On a particularly gorgeous morning, the kind of morning that leaves a pink feeling all around, Rosie took a stroll down to the pond to feed the swans. Little did she know that....

Now, you get to fill in the blank. The end of the story belongs to you."

I also have 4 other pieces of my story art listed in my shop. Here's a link directly to my "Story Art"

I'm offering free shipping on my story pieces right now, but I absolutely didn't raise the prices to compensate. For those of you who don't have an account with Etsy, the same offer applies. All story art is free of shipping costs. Simply click on my blog profile, and from there, you can email me. I will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have (or fill any orders as well)!!

5. JUST KEEPING IN TOUCH

Good Afternoon Bloggers:

I've been busy this morning listing a bunch of my original ACEOs on eBay. I haven't listed there in a very long time, but I thought I would give it another whirl. Listing helps to get me in the mood to create some new pieces!! Here's what I have listed on eBay.

********************************************

I have a little running around to do today. I'll swing by my mom's place to organize her meds for the week, then I'm off to the grocery and then to my dear friend's house to see her new Golden Retriever pup. Tomorrow....The Beach!!! So, I've just stopped by my blog briefly today to say hi and keep in touch.

6. OH NO, NOT ANOTHER SLUMP !!

Good Morning:

I'm up and about on this cool, muggy morning. The kind of morning that I crave. The kind of morning that not only refreshes your dry and parched body, but refreshes the soul as well. Why then, am I in another maddening slump? I would love nothing more than to plop myself down on the couch and simply do nothing. I can't find a good excuse to create, I can't convince myself to step outside and stroll through my garden. Even in the intense heat that crept in over the last few weeks, my garden is shining and full of color....

secret pockets of perfumed fireworks....

I can view my garden very comfortably from the couch, so why then should I bother going outdoors?

My studio has been calling my name for weeks, but I choose to ignore the whining and bleating of my own "creative process". Instead, I have opted to do nothing. Oh, I've seen a few good movies lately and watched my fair share of the television, but, in the end, I've accomplished zero.

I have stacks of newly acquired vintage photos that I've yet to take a peek at. Several weeks ago, I came across this photo:

I thought it would be an interesting focal point for a collage, but alas....I've left the photo perched on top of all my other photos of interest. Left to accomplish the same as I have been accomplishing, which is nothing. The girl in the photo is me. That's me when I was new and fresh. Before I knew who I would be. Years before I knew that I would become an unpredictible woman. A woman that so easily falls into a decaying lump of fears and weaknesses. Just another artist that lacks the oh so important "skill" of self-confidence.

So.... as the day progresses and turns it's own light low into night, will I find strength? Will I find a quiet and comforting pull or tug that forces me back into the studio? Will the subtle scents of the night-time garden call my name this evening?

I'll let you know tomorrow.....

Until then:

7. MY 200th COLLAGE ACEO !!

Good Morning:

Well, we made it through our walk this morning. Miserable and sweaty, but better off for it!! It's already beyond hot here and it hasn't even reached twelve noon yet.

I have a busy day ahead. This is the time of year that a good friend of mine goes on vacation and I always watch their house. There's three dogs to be let out in the morning, mail to check, watering to do, a new birdbath to keep filled and a pool pump to monitor. Whew!! I'm always glad to do it, though, as she is a dear friend and a sweetheart of a person. Plus....I have the use of the pool!!

I did manage to finish another collage ACEO. My 200th!! I can't believe it: 200 ACEOs. I've listed it in My Etsy Shop:

Grandma Visits Amelia:

Unfortunately, it's not my favorite piece and it definately isn't my best. I remember feeling the same way when I had finished my 100th. But...I still listed it and I'm offering it with free shipping!!

It's the 2nd card in my new "Amelia" series. I have lots of beautiful pictures of this girl named Amelia. I don't know who she was, but she always looked happy. This is the first card I made with Amelia:

Amelia's Day In The Sun

As always, if there is ever any of my art that you would like to purchase, but you don't have an Etsy account, it can be purchased directly through me. Just go to my blog profile and send me an email.

Looks like this is going to be a quick little entry, as I'm off to a day filled to the brim with "stuff" to do.

8. A NEW ACEO COLLAGE ON ETSY AND THE CONTINUATION OF MY SPY SERIES

Good Morning:

Looks like my "blog a day" challenge isn't going as well as I had hoped!! I was absent yesterday as I took my mom to get some bloodwork done before she has another round of tests next week. By the time I got home, the day moved forward with no time to sit at the computer for even a minute or two!!

I did, however, steal a moment to list a new ACEO collage in My Etsy Shop.
This new ACEO is entitled "A Spy And Her Guardian" and it's my 199th ACEO.

I sort of have a "spy" series going. This newest card is the 3rd in the series and the first two were sold last year. But...I will eventually offer them as prints.

A Spy In The Desert

A Spy In The Garden

This is simply a quick "art marketing" entry today, as I am off to another busy day. Thank you all so very much for continuing to stop by and read my daily offerings. I always look forward to doing the same for you!!

9. MELANCHOLY MONDAY

Good Morning:

I'm back from what is traditionally a busy week. My wedding anniversary is on June 13, my oldest son's birthday is on June 17, and Father's Day always falls on Sunday after our anniversary.

Altogether, we had a great week, but today is officially "back to the norm". This is always a sad and melancholy Monday as Gary goes back to work after being off for days. He has always planned days off around our anniversary and Garrison's birthday. We're somewhat like "Siamese Twins" when he's home from work for an extended period of time. When he goes back to work, I just find myself a little dis-gruntled. I'm not sure what to do with my time.

I've been to the garden this morning and enjoyed the cool of the morning.

It isn't as hot today, but in the next day or so, we're going to get blasted with daytime highs in the 100's. I'm making a conscious effort to breath in the sights and smells of the damp morning that's upon us now, as I know full well what's lurking around the dry, desert corner!!

Don't get me wrong, it will still be hot enough to turn the air-conditioner on in the afternoon, but I might be able to squeeze in a few hours with open windows.

I have plans to meet with some dear friends for dinner this evening. Nothing more than a Subway sandwich, but nevertheless, it's always nice to steal a few moments with friends that you don't get to see as often as you would like. I'm also hoping to work on a collage ACEO that's almost finished. I'd like to get it listed in My Etsy Shop tomorrow morning.

Otherwise, I have a new "Set of 3" ACEO collage prints entitled "Plumpy Babies" listed today:

Forgive me for such a scattered blog entry. I'm simply trying to get back into the "swing of things" after such a perfectly dreamy week.

10. MAKING LISTS AND A NEW COLLAGE

Good Morning:

Looks like it's winding up to be a hot one today. Unfortunately, that means the air conditioner will need to be turned on. I don't like days that call for me to close the windows and turn on the air. But...I am thankful that we have central air and are able to use it when needed. I can't imagine living here, in the Southern California desert, without it. Although generations of folks lived here before there was such a thing as electric cooling. I often wonder what it must have been like to farm this area at the turn of the century. What long, hot days they must have survived.

I'm looking at a busy day today. But busy in a good way. Although Gary and I will only be gone for 1 night, we will be gone for 2 full days. That means packing a couple of outfits, making sure that I have all of my daily hair products and accessories. All will work out fine, I'm sure. But....I'm forgetful and high-strung, so in order to function logistically, I live by lists!! Each time I remember something that needs to be done, I write it down. Like right now, I'm thinking, "I need to clean the kitty box before I leave", and "I can't forget my contact lense case and my glasses". Oh yeah, Gary mentioned that we should bring the binoculars because there are lots of birds where we are going. If I don't make detailed lists every day, I can get so off-track that I'm almost literally bumping off walls!!

I'm so looking forward to a few days rest in the country. And...I can honestly say that I think I need it!! But when it's time to come home, I'll be ready. I miss my home when I'm gone away for very long. Even after a fun family day at Disneyland, I'm always ready to come home and nest.

*******************************************************

I actually managed to finish an ACEO collage yesterday. So, what I listed this morning in My Etsy Shop is a new original, not a print. It's entitled "Amelia's Day In The Sun". I have a box of photos that includes lots of pictures of Amelia. I don't know who she was or where she lived, but she always looked happy. I know her name is Amelia because all of the photos are labeled as such. This particular collage could have been in my "Guardian" series, as Amelia is being watched and protected by her guardian, but in title, it is not part of the series.

"Amelia's Day In The Sun"

As always, if you are interested in any of the art you see on my blog, it can be purchased directly through me. Just go to my profile and send an email. I'll get back to you with all of the details.

*******************************************************

I am signing off until Friday morning. I'll have some fresh, new photos from our Anniversary and, I hope, a few new stories to tell.

Until Friday:

11. MY FAVORITE THINGS (Grandma's Glove)

Good Morning All:

Here it is, June 7th and it's chilly enough to wear a light jacket. I'm forcing myself to enjoy it though, as I know that within the next week or so, the temperature could be in the 90's to low 100's and I'll be wishing for a little chill!!

I spent a small portion of the afternoon yesterday going through a box of my treasures. Included in this box is my mom's wedding ring set from 1946, a strand of pearls given to me by an old lady named "Pansy" that lived next door to me when I was a little girl, and lots of other goodies that would most likely be junk to anyone else!

Also included in this old shoe box is my Grandma Watson's glove. A single glove, as the mate belongs to one of my mom's sisters. I don't know exactly how old it is, but I know that the gloves were sent to my grandma by my grandpa during World War I. I don't even know where he purchased them, although I've been given the broad idea that it was "somewhere in Europe, maybe Germany".

It is so delicate and tiny. I wonder if my grandma ever wore the gloves, as it looks as though it really wouldn't fit an average sized woman.

I imagine it is made from silk lace, but I don't know for sure. There are two mother of pearl snaps on the wrist...

and it has turned a beautiful light tea color over the years. It's kept in the same envelope that my grandpa sent them in originally. Unfortunately, the stamps are long gone and the writing on the envelope was done in pencil and is mostly worn away.

I'll keep this one single glove, along with my other little family treasures, in the old shoe box until it's time to divide them up. But...every once in a while, I'll open the lid and take a peek at the history that will one day belong to my kids.

*************************************************

I took a stroll through the garden today and Jr. came along with me. He's not too helpful, but he means well......

And, as usual, here's a link to My Etsy Shop. I've listed a set of 3 "Ghostly" collage ACEO prints today. As always, if you're interested in purchasing something in my shop, but you don't have an Etsy account, simply email me through my blog and I'll be more than happy to work with you.

12. MY LITTLE NOOK UNDER THE DAYLILIES

Good Morning:

Oh how I love these damp and gloomy but warmish June mornings. Perfect for sipping coffee outdoors. There's a certain look in the air on mornings like this. All of the colors in my garden seem to pop in an almost surreal way ~~

There's a luscious smell of earth and mold and lavender~~

My roses are in full bloom, and in this filtered and hazy light, they are almost vulgar in their brightness. Let's see what will happen if I take a picture of them in sepia~~

Alright...I think I like it. Now, let's see what happens when I take a picture of them in cyan~~

The smell outside is heavenly, like a warm summer morning in the South. Today, my garden smells like Arkansas. It makes me want to dig a little nook under the daylilies and fall into it. To breath so deeply that I can't draw in any more air. I'll let the air out and start all over again. Quietly rolled up in my little nook, just breathing in deeply and smelling the smell of an earthy Southern morning.

So...here I am, slap, in the middle of the Southern California desert. Struggling to keep this curious cottage garden full of life. Watching as my water bill soars with each passing dry, summer day. But you see, mornings like this make it all worth the effort and cost. The simple smells of growth and life and soil. The pop of vulgar color and layers of blossoms....This is my life.

13. WORDS MINUS FLAIR AND A FINISHED COLLAGE

Good Morning:

Another warm and comforting day is upon us, as well as another Friday.

I was hopeful that I would wake up feeling inspired to write about something worthwhile, but alas, my recent lack of focus seems to be over-staying it's welcome. The moment that I sit down to create a string of words that might hold someone's interest, I go blank. Empty-headed. I must admit, this isn't the first time that I've lost my "flair" for words. It's always been an up and down process for me. I wrote poetry and journals all through my high school years, and there were plenty of dry spells throughout. This, evidentally, is one of my many dry spells.

I so enjoy blogging and find that it helps to clear my thoughts and my heart. So, as I wade through this flood of empty words, I will be patient, as I hope that you will be also! And...on a morning in the future, I'll sit here, before my computer, and the words will find me again. Until then, I shall continue to pull from my scant sources of unfascinating daily happenings, in hopes that your loyalty will hold you here until I can, once again, find words to hold a reader's attention.

So, I will share a few pictures with you today. Simple pictures of the stuff that daily life is made from:

A beautiful Chitalpa Tree blossom in my backyard

My miniature Schnauzer, Jr. who spends large amounts of time staring at the ground

And again, Jr. staring at the ground

Agapanthus: (always a sign that spring is firmly in place and summer is just around the corner)

*******************************************

The good news: I've finally finished the collage that I've been working on for who knows how long. I'm happy with the results, but sad that I'm done. As any of you know that visit here daily, my fascination with the photo in this collage has been a source of daily curiosity for me.

If any of my blog readers would like to purchase a print of this collage, you can order directly through my blog. Just go to my profile and click on the handy-dandy email button. I am selling them for $10.00 each on Etsy plus shipping and handling. If you are one of my blog readers and purchase through my blog, I'll give you free shipping!

14. I'M NOT SURE WHY I'M BLOGGING ABOUT MEMORIAL DAY ALREADY

Good Morning:

I've just spent the morning listing and marketing on Ebay and Etsy. Not my favorite way to spend my glorious morning time, but it's a chore that must be done....so, it is done!!

With spring rolling smoothly along, and summer quickly coming upon us, I find myself looking forward to long days and bar-b-ques. With Memorial Day right around the corner, we have already planned the yearly grill with our neighbors across the street. Ava is working on the menu today and all will be well planned long before the charcoal is lit.

The menu is yummy, but somewhat predictible. Hamburgers and Hot Dogs, Chili, homemade Guacamole, lots of Salsa, dips and chips. I always try to include a few healthy items, corn on the cob and raw vegetables, although I am most likely the only person that grabs for these items first!! A big bar-b-que is never a healthy, meal, but it sure is good for the soul!! We look forward to our Memorial Day bar-b-que each year, although we never do anything outstandingly superb. We just hang out together and eat and gab.

You see, although the kids and teens that attend this traditional dinner don't consciously realize it, they are making memories. Through the act of having this celebration each and every year, we are concocting images that the kids will pull from as they grow older. Just as I remember my dad mowing the lawn, and my mom canning plum jelly on hot summer days, the kids who attend our annual bar-b-que will look back to these yearly and somewhat predictible dinners shared with friends.

As I have grown older, I have the luxury of wisdom!! I know that what my children and my neighbor's children are looking at as "just another Memorial Day bar-b-que", will, in their future, become breathable and almost touchable memories that will tug on their heart and bring joy and comfort to their lives.

I'm not really sure why I'm blogging about Memorial Day already. It doesn't seem appropriate yet, does it? I should have waited until next week, but for whatever reason, it's fresh on my mind today. Most likely because we are planning the menu and it is at the forefront of my mind.
**************************************

Here's the latest collage print I've listed in My Etsy Shop. It's called "Prince Roger's Garden"

The gorgeous little baby portraying Prince Roger is a vintage photo of my cousin Roger. His pictures fascinated me when I was a little girl browsing through the family "box of pictures". He's quite a lot older than I am, so I saw him as a baby, only in photos. His eyes are a spooky-ish light blue and his hair, jet black. I was so happy to come across this picture a couple of years ago in my mom's old photos. I just knew I had to use it. (It's a scanned image, of course. I never cut photos). So, I crowned him "Prince Roger" and put him in my garden.

15. FAVORITE THINGS ( One Particular Vintage Photo)

Good Morning:

A lovely Friday is upon us and the sun is warm. This weekend will be the official start of laying our pathway stones. I'm looking forward to starting the job, but looking more forward to it being finished.

************************************

I've been looking through boxes of my orphaned vintage photos and some of my gracious neighbor's old photos as well. These photos always take me back to a place in time that only my imagination can explore. I wonder, what ultimately happened to the people that are only a black and white image now? Did they have a happy life? Where did their path lead them? There are so many sad faces stored in these musty, water-stained cardboard boxes. I've come across dozens of photos of already dead children, sitting, propped up as though they were posing for the camera. Often times, these sad yet fascinating photos are accompanied by locks of hair and hand-written memorial books. Sometimes, there are little pieces of fabric hidden in the memorial books. Most likely a piece of the dress or gown that they were buried in.

Through the years, I have purhased and been given hundreds of other people's memories. I have spent countless hours scanning and cutting and creating new worlds for these lost and orphaned photos. Every once in a while, I come across a picture that absolutely stirs me. Sometimes it's because I feel a sadness in a forced smile. Other times, it may be a curious look in the eyes of a long ago child, posing with a toy. For whatever reason, no other photos has ever "spoken" to me like this one:

I am fascinated and curious all at once. I've been working on a collage based on this photo for a month or so. I'm almost finished....

but each time I sit down to apply the last details, my mind wanders. Who are these two girls and how in the world did they ever come to have their picture taken together? The African American girl has such long fingers and she is wearing a ring on her middle finger. The "Flapper" girl is wearing very cool shoes and she looks a bit like Drew Barrymore with dark and frizzy hair. Who are they and what are they to each other?

There is no date on the back of the picture, but this is what it says: "How do you like my new sister. They say it is luck. I only hope so and that it won't be long until I see you". It is signed "May". Is that gorgeous little African American girl sort of being made sport of? I just crave to know the intimate details. My hope is that they were happy and loved. But alas....I suppose I will never know.

For any of you who are fans of "Pan's Labyrinth", it came out on DVD Tuesday. It is indeed one of the most attractive movies I've ever watched. If you get a chance, check out the Pan's Labyrinth Website. It is truly gorgeous, moving and chilling.

And....here we go: my two newest prints listed in My Etsy Shop. One is a 5" x 7" and the other is a 6" x 6" art2 (art squared).

17. MY FAVORITE THINGS (Three Little Pigs Pot)

Good Morning:

I'm back from my morning walk, and it seems as though I'm in for another busy day. I much prefer the slow pace of a day in the garden, but life must be lived, sometimes busily, sometimes not. Today will be busy.

Gary had to take one of our vehicles into the shop this morning on his way to work. Diagnosis is still to follow~~ I am taking my mom to the bank and to do her grocery shopping. After she has finished with her shopping, my daughter and I will do our grocery shopping. Of course, in between the daily business, there are various odd and ends that need to be taken care of. Laundry comes to mind...

So, I wanted to take a moment to stop and breath. To be aware of my surroundings and the little pieces of joy that make my home a home. As you can see in the photo above, one of my "favorite things" is a very old and very used "Three Little Pigs" pot. Most of the paint is chipped off and I've never put a plant in it as I don't want to distract from it's basic beauty. This pot was given to me by my neighbor who deals in antiques. She knows that I love fantasy and fairy tales, and she said she knew as soon as she found this piece that she had to get it for me!! It sits comfortably, along side so many of my other old treasures, on my dining room hutch.
Isn't it lovely?

I would also like to share an old photo with you. This photo actually belongs to the same neighbor that gave me the pot. We both are in love with this photo. It has been creased down the middle but is in over all good shape. I think she intends to keep it for herself instead of re-selling it. She is so very generous. Anytime she gets a box of old photos or a handful of unusually exquisite photos, she lets me copy them before she sales them. This particular photo image absolutely needed to be collaged. I've already started the process and I hope to have it finished in the next day or so.

I hope this post finds you all well and ready for a beautiful spring day.
