We can hardly wait for the super hero humanoid, canine mascots Bella & Max to arrive. We've been planning the area and the activities we're going to film first before we leave for our crazy week at the end of July / beginning of August starting off with:
The Felixstowe Carnival - Sat - Sun
Teddy Bears Picnic - Tues - Wed
Port Solent - Marina Shopping Centre - Thursday
Bournemouth Fun Day - Saturday
So if any of you are in the vacinity of theses areas - we'd love you to pop down and day hello to the Ruff Life Mascots.
Hi
We had our first Christmas Stall experience. It was at an historic Victorian Railway Station - in my language that means old. I noticed 6 'bellasomish' Christmas trees 4 were down the stairs that led to the station.
My favourite place was the ladies waiting room, it was great, Max wasn't allowed anywhere near it. There was a real coal fire in the room, wooden benches and a carpet. It felt like it was a sitting room from someone's house rather than a public waiting room. I went in there quite a lot.
Max was interested in the steam trains, the engines were massive black heavy iron constructions and the carriages were complete with highly polished wooden doors. Each engine had a proper name: One of the engines that left from platform 1 was Oliver Cromwell.
I was surprised I had to work so hard to get people to notice me, it doesn't normally happen. I suppose though the fact that Santa was riding on the train had something to do with it. You'd think by now that Santa would know how important Bella of Beckingham is. Maybe by next year he will get the message and stop planning events on the same day as me.
It was a great couple of days. But I was embarrassed by how the Ruff Life crew dressed. You'd think being around my fantastic style in fashion they could have turned out more stylish than looking like rejects from the abominable snowman, there's no helping some people sometime.
Well I must go

Things are going to go crazy at Ruff Life. There are so many fantastic things happening. It means more work for me. But I don't mind doing anything to make me more famous.
I mean a girl has to do anything she can to get what she wants. And I'm a great achiever in getting what I want.
I want fame, fashion, limelight and a peaceful life without a nosy, smelly brother that's always interfering. So far I've only managed the first 3.goals, I'm still working on the 4th, but Max doesn't get any of the subtle hits I leave for him. He's just one stubborn mongrel.

Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi will be writing a second book. CNN reports that Simon & Schuster plans to release Gorilla Beach on May 15, 2012.
Here’s more about the book: “Giovanna ‘Gia’ Spumanti and her cousin Isabella ‘Bella’ Rizzoli are going to have the sexiest summer ever. While they couldn’t be more different—pint-size Gia is a carefree, outspoken party girl and Bella is a tall, slender athlete who always holds her tongue—for the next month they’re ready to pouf up their hair, put on their stilettos, and soak up all that Seaside Heights, New Jersey, has to offer: hot guidos, cool clubs, fried Oreos, and lots of tequila.’”
In her author video, Polizzi (pictured, via) did say that she wanted to write more books in the future. When her first novel, A Shore Thing, was first released in January, one publishing executive told The Hollywood Reporter: “The book didn’t do as well as it could have because rather than a tell-all, it was disguised as a novel.” (Via Sarah Weinman)

I dunno. Girl looks scary to me. Not often that I draw a picture that makes me burst into chuckles when I gaze on it. Poor doggie. I woke up with this illustration on my mind (I've been fermenting an idea for a new picture book starring these two) Click on the picture to check out the book cover mockup in my online portfolio and select the second thumbnail down.
Pencil was sketched directly onto Painter using the Cintiq, then faded the line back as a guide. On a second transparent layer used my favorite Painter pen -- the scratchboard tool -- to "ink" the drawing in brown. Next colored on the canvas layer with the digital watercolor, keeping it wet the whole time. Finished up modeling Bella's (the girl) face with the scratchboard rake. Probably could add some more modeling to Bronte's fur with the rake, but she was a "unique" looking cattle dog in real life (RIP my poor Bronte, who died last week) and I want to keep her DNA slighly ambiguous. Is she part pig? Part seal? Will have to think on this.

It's not that I haven't been trying to make time to draw, but Life keeps getting in the way so I doodled a few type designs and then finally managed to draw this "Magicked Frog" to accompany a sweet story by a friend of mine. Had loads of fun doing them all but am still at my wit's end where time is concerned, reorganizing my home now that my shipping finally arrived from Australia ... here is what I've been playing with in between cleaning, clearing, unpacking and running errands:
Go Green Leaf cards and products at Floating Lemons Typography at Zazzle
Bertha blue cards and products at Floating Lemons Typography at Zazzle
Bella pink cards and products at Floating Lemons Typography at Zazzle
Hello purple cards and products at Floating Lemons Typography at Zazzle
I'm hoping to finish up household tasks and errands as soon as possible and get back to more drawing and blogging. WIsh me luck. Cheers.

Edward & Bella: An Abusive Relationship?
Blogger of the Week/Guest Blogger:
Sara Raasch...
This week Sara Raasch, who blogs at SeeSaraWrite offers a guest post delving into the underbelly of the relationship between Stephenie Meyer's Twilight characters Bella and Edward.A lot of conversation has rolled around the book/movie phenomenon Twilight. But there is one topic that has not yet been breached (at least, not that I have read), and it's a subject I'm personally familiar with, so the insane glorification of it lately has left me fearing an epidemic. Hopefully you have recognized it too; it's one of those silent-but-deadly things that
far too many girls (because, let's face it, guys aren't as widely affected by this) are unaware of. What am I talking about? Here I go:
Abusive relationships.
Everyone knows they're "bad." Everyone knows they don't want to be in one. But what I'm seeing lately is a slow and completely unintentional brainwashing of young, impressionable girls into thinking abusive relationships are okay. Magical, even. Quite frankly, I am sick of this. This is both a PSA and a plea, a desperate beg, to writers everywhere to stop writing characters like this.
Characters like Edward Cullen. Remove the actual story and look at the facts of what Edward does: he keeps Bella from her family; he won't be with her unless she changes very materialistic things about herself (the car she drives, her stance on wearing engagement rings/getting married); he breaks into her house and hides in her room while she sleeps; he does all this under the banner of "I know what's best for you. You don't." While Meyer (probably) wrote these things to be charming in a young-love way, they ARE NOT charming. Hearing them for what they are (alienation, ultimatums of the petty and controlling sort, stalking, manipulation) automatically evoke the response of "No. These things are wrong." But in the context Meyer put
them, they're disguised as all right.
Maybe I'm blowing it out of proportion. But hearing my 16-year-old sister say that these things are CUTE is disgusting and terrifying, and I'm very angry with Stephenie Meyer for telling her legion of tween-age fans that these things are all right. Thousands of girls get into abusive
relationships without seeing it, and don't realize until afterward how they could've avoided it. But now, with Edward Cullen as the prime love example, will girls be LOOKING for men like him? I can't stomach that.
The most disturbing part of all this is the response girls have to being told Edward Cullen is a horrible example of a boyfriend. I went to the Breaking Dawn release party last August, wearing a "Team Jacob" shirt. Edward fans, whom I didn't know, would come up to me and make snide remarks about "that stupid dog." When I asked what Jacob did wrong and pointed out what Edward did wrong, they got red-faced angry and stomp away. People at this release party throughout the night continued to get angry because of my Team Jacob shirt. At first it was funny; now, though, it's a little worrisome.
Again looking at the facts, Jacob was what should have been the "perfect" boyfriend. He accepted Bella for what/who she was; he helped her become a stronger person; he supported her and comforted her, never pushing her into any decisions about herself; her friends and family approved of him. And yet, despite his good qualities, the Edward fans HATE Jacob. HATE him.
And none of them has ever given me a straight answer as to why. They can only say that Edward is better, Edward is better, Edward is better. Which, if you ask someone who is in an abusive relationship why they stay in it, they are so blinded by it that all they know is that he is the one. He is the one. He is the one.
I take advice from a lot of what I read and know that if I had read these books before my own relationship, it would've been a lot harder to let go and get out. Books like these give girls a battle cry:
"Edward did it, so it's all right."
"Maybe my boyfriend really does know what's best. Maybe there's some secret,
magical reason he's doing this to me too."
THERE IS NOT a good reason. There never will be. And girls need to STOP being told this is all right behavior.
I know if any hardcore Edward fans read this, I'd probably get some nasty hate mail. And maybe it's just my rather cynical view of the male species that makes me pick out every bad detail about Edward, but I honestly do like Jacob. He was the one thing Meyer did right. And he, not Edward, should be who all the tween-fans swoon over and hope for.

Oh no...just last week. I'm so sorry Mo! Why can't our pups live as long as people? I miss my Brandy every day! We will probably be getting a new golden next Spring. Or maybe a newfoundland...we'll see what's available at the rescues.
I can't wait to see this in book form! I have been working on a picture book ms ever since Brandy died last Oct. and still haven't got it right...
Oh Maurie, I'm so sorry about Bronte...
