Longtime Slushpile favorite Steven Graham Jones has sold a new novel called Mongrels to Morrow. Looks like BJ Robbins of the BJ Robbins Literary Agency brokered the deal.
I’ve got some questions for Mr. Jones on this fine new book of his. Look forward for more information to come shortly.
Amber Rose has landed a deal with the Simon & Schuster imprint, Gallery Books. The publisher will release Rose’s book, entitled How to Be a Bad Bitch, on October 27th.
With this project, the model (pictured, via) will share her advice and ideas on how to cultivate success. David LaChappelle will take charge of the photo shoot to create the cover image.

Freelance journalist and story editor at Page 1 Jessica Weisberg has inked a book deal with Nation Books for an undisclosed figure.
Nation will publish, How to Behave in America, a nonfiction title will explore the history of the advice column. Check it out:

Dick Van Dyke has signed a memoir deal with Weinstein Books.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the nonfiction book, entitled Keep Moving: And Other Tips About Old Age, will be released on December 13, 2015. The publication date was chosen to coincide with the actor’s 90th birthday.
Editorial director Amanda Murray negotiated the deal with Trident literary agent Dan Strone. With this project, Van Dyke (pictured, via) will discuss “his approach to growing old.” He promises that he’s “not going to sugarcoat anything,” but his objective is “to assure people that there is a beautiful life waiting” during one’s golden years.

Diane Guerrero, an actress who has appeared on the Orange is the New Black Netflix series, has landed a memoir deal.
Henry Holt and Company has scheduled publication for In The Country We Love to take place in early 2016. Senior editor Serena Jones acquired the manuscript.
According to the press release, Guerroro (pictured, via) talked about the “heartbreaking story of her family’s nightmarish struggles as undocumented residents seeking citizenship—but ultimately deported—in the United States” publicly in a L.A. Times op-ed. She will share more details about this ordeal in her book. Michelle Burford, a writer who has written biographies about Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas and singer Toni Braxton, will serve as the co-author for this project.

Trinity University Press has acquired the assets of Maverick Publishing Company, an imprint dedicated to publishing books about the Southwest.
Beginning next year, Trinity will launch a new imprint called Maverick Books. The line will include more than 40 backlist titles from the Maverick collection and will publish new titles dedicated to the history and culture of Texas and the American Southwest. Lewis F. Fisher, the founder of Maverick will work with Trinity University Press as an editorial advisor, which will include acquiring and writing books for the imprint.
“Trinity University Press has enjoyed significant growth and success nationally and internationally during its first ten-plus years of publishing,” says Thomas Payton, associate director of Trinity University Press. “Core to our mission is a commitment to explore the history and culture of Texas and its peoples, as well as the Southwest more broadly. The Maverick acquisition helps to deepen our catalog of available print and ebook titles.”

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) will publish an English language edition of Patrick Modiano’s latest novel. Gallimard, Modiano’s publisher in France, released the book back in October 2014 and it has become a bestseller.
HMH has scheduled a publication date for So You Don’t Get Lost in the Neighborhood in late 2015. Bruce Nichols, the company’s general interest publisher, negotiated the deal with literary agent Georges Borchardt (who represented Gallimard).
According to the announcement, Euan Cameron has signed on to serve as the translator for this project. The book “is a haunting novel of suspense, in which a single, unexpected phone call to a man living quietly in Paris launches a chain of menacing encounters and events, unlocking a dark secret he had erased from memory.”

Michelle Miller, a former banker at JPMorgan Chase & Co., has signed a six-figure book deal with G.P. Putnam’s Sons. Miller had originally published The Underwriting in twelve installments on the internet. According to The Associated Press , the story “is billed as The Social Network meets The Wolf of Wall Street.”
Miller plans to write five books for this thriller fiction series; the Penguin Random House imprint has only acquired the first two books. The release date for book one has been set for May 26, 2015. Tara Singh-Carlson served as the editor for this project.

Episodes, which took about 30 minutes to read, were released each Wednesday, free to read for 24 hours, or available for purchase as text or audio files. Cecily McMillan, a former Occupy Wall Street activist, has landed a memoir deal for her book, The Emancipation of Cecily McMillan.
Alessandra Bastagli, an editor at Nation Books, negotiated the deal with Roz Foster of the Sandra Dijkstra literary agency.
The book will chronicle McMillan’s journey from becoming emancipated from her parents at age 16, getting involved with the Occupy movement, and her experience at Rikers Island.
A student at the time, McMillan was arrested during an Occupy Wall Street demonstration in New York in 2012. During the protest, McMillan was involved in a fight with police and this year was convicted of assaulting an NYPD officer. She defended herself, claiming that she elbowed the cop as a reaction to his grabbing her breast. She served 3 months on Rikers Island.

David Graeber landed a deal with Melville House for a new book entitled The Utopia of Rules: On Technology, Stupidity, and the Secret Joys of Bureaucracy.
Graeber, an anthropology professor at the London School of Economics, served as one of the principal organizers of the Occupy Wall Street movement. According to the press release, he coined the famous “We are the 99%” slogan for the protest.
With this work, Graeber “traces the peculiar and unexpected ways we relate to bureaucracy today, and reveals how it shapes our lives in ways we may not even notice.” A publication date has been scheduled for February 24, 2015.

Kara Thomas, a novelist and television writer, has signed a two-book deal with Delacorte Press.
Thomas (pictured, via) plans to write a mystery entitled Darkest Corners. The Penguin Random House imprint has scheduled a release date for Spring 2016.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the book features “a True Detective-meets-Gillian Flynn’s Dark Places story, it follows two estranged childhood friends whose lives are upended the summer after their high school graduation when the serial killer they helped send to prison might go free. Mike Love, best known as one of the founding members of The Beach Boys, has inked a memoir deal with Blue Rider Press.
James S. Hirsch, a journalist and biographer, will help Love with writing this project. The publisher plans to release the book in the Summer 2016.
Here’s more from The Associated Press: “According to Blue Rider, the 73-year-old Love will discuss his ‘complex’ relationship with Brian Wilson, his cousin and the Beach Boys’ leader during their peak years in the 1960s. Glee star Chris Colfer has landed a deal with Little, Brown Books for Young Readers for several new projects. Editorial director Alvina Ling will continue to work with Colfer on his manuscripts.
According to The Associated Press, Colfer plans to write two more installments for the Land of Stories middle grade series. Book four will come out in July 2015 and book five will follow in July 2016.
Colfer has also agreed to create two picture books set in the Land of Stories universe. He will also be working on a new young adult novel that stars “a young actor and his fans on ‘a once-in-a-lifetime cross-country road trip.’”

Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres (pictured, via) has landed a deal with Grand Central Publishing to write a book about interior design.
According to the press release, “DeGeneres, who has bought and renovated over a dozen properties, most recently launched a line of home goods on QVC and will launch Ellen’s Design Challenge, a new show on HGTV, in January of 2015.” Home will be released in Fall 2015.
Deb Futter, the editor-in-chief of hardcovers at the imprint, negotiated the deal with Esther Newberg, a literary agent of ICM Partners. Karen Murgolo, editorial director of Grand Central Life & Style, will edit the manuscript.

English stand-up comedian Eddie Izzard (pictured, via) has inked a deal with Blue Rider Press. According to SFGate, “the book will detail Izzard’s career from London street performer to his work onstage and in Hollywood.”
Executive editor Sarah Hochman managed the acquisitions process for this memoir. The publisher has not scheduled a definite publication date; it may be in the Winter of either 2015 or 2016.

Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company, said, “This is a heartbreaking, emotional family story. Spanning continents and decades, Louise shows faith and grace through it all.”
According to AP, Troh says she will use part of the book proceeds for a down payment on a new home.

Legendary entertainer Whoopi Goldberg (pictured, via) has landed a deal to write a book on the negative attributes and pitfalls of marriage.
Hachette Books will publish the not-yet-titled book in September 2015. Goldberg, who has been married three times, will look back on her own personal experiences for this project.
Goldberg had this statement in the press release: “I get to hear from a lot of different people about relationships and this got me trying to figure out why the divorce rate is SO high. It occurred to me that as one who has done it badly often, I might have some insight into why a person might not put her best foot forward in a relationship. I’ve realized there are certain things you have to come to terms with in life, like managing your own expectations, telling the truth, reconciling true love with other aspects of your life, including wealth or even celebrity. It’s hard to really know the other person’s agenda, but if someone says ‘you complete me’…RUN!!!”

Kristin Cast has signed a deal for a paranormal romance series.
Cast (pictured, via) has become well-known for collaborating with her mother, P. C. Cast, on the House of Night young adult series. Diversion Books will publish book one, the first installment of five, in Summer 2015.
According to the press release, the story follows “Alek, a handsome and headstrong young man from the underworld of Tartarus has been commanded to venture earthward to save Eva, who is being hunted by a serial killer, the killer’s motives seemingly centuries old. As Alek and Eva’s worlds come ever closer to coming together, a sinister threat looms heavy, threatening to tear the very fabric of both worlds apart.”

Journalist Stephanie Clifford has landed a deal for her debut novel, Everybody Rise. St. Martin’s Press will release the book in 2016.
Executive editor Charles Spice negotiated the terms of the agreement with literary agent Elisabeth Weed. The film rights for this title have been sold to Fox 2000 Pictures.
