Wisconsin governor Scott Walker has inked a book deal with Penguin Group’s Sentinel imprint. President George W. Bush‘s former chief speechwriter Marc Thiessen will co-write.
The publisher acquired world rights to Unintimidated: A Governor’s Story and a Nation’s Challenge and publication is tentatively scheduled for “late 2013.” Writers’ Representatives agent Glen Hartley negotiated the deal with publisher Adrian Zackheim. The book will cover Walker’s controversial battle with Wisconsin unions.
Governor Walker became the focus of a nationwide controversy in 2011 when he proposed a series of budget reforms that eliminated Wisconsin’s $3.6 billion deficit through limiting the collective bargaining power of public employee unions, which was costing taxpayers billions in pension and health care costs across all levels of government. Liberals all over America swiftly denounced Governor Walker, with nearly 100,000 protesters overtaking the state Capitol. Despite relentless attacks, Governor Walker stood his ground — and with the help of supporters from across Wisconsin and the country he passed his reforms, took his case to the voters of Wisconsin, and became the first governor in American history to survive a recall election — and thus be elected not once, but twice, to his first term in office.

Just days after signing a controversial bill cracking down on illegal immigration, South Carolina governor Nikki Haley has inked a book deal with Penguin Group’s Sentinel imprint.
Entitled Can’t Is Not An Option: My Story, her memoir will be published in January. The book will share “her vision for the country and the Republican Party.” Williams & Connolly attorney Robert B. Barnett negotiated the deal with publisher Adrian Zackheim.
Zackheim had this comment: “Governor Haley has already had a fascinating journey. She’s part of an all-American success story — a hardworking immigrant family that overcame great obstacles and proved that the American dream is still possible for anyone. And she is clearly a rising star in national politics.”

Indiana’s Republican governor Mitch Daniels has inked a book deal with Penguin Group’s Sentinel imprint. Publication is set for September, with the tentative title Keeping the Republic: Limited Government, Unlimited Citizens.
In January, a Fox News columnist called Daniels (pictured, via) “the most promising Republican candidate to run president in 2012.” Sentinel publisher Adrian Zackheim acquired world rights to the book and Robert B. Barnett of Williams & Connolly negotiated the deal.
Daniels had this statement: “I’m offering these thoughts only because I am desperately alarmed about the condition and direction of the American republic. What just recently seemed a highly secure, ever more prosperous, internationally dominant nation is now endangered as never before, save perhaps the days of Soviet nuclear confrontation. But I devoutly believe there is a route to renewal, a way to reconstruct both our economy and an ethic of citizenship that will preserve both prosperity and liberty.”
