Hi guys, here is my entry for the weekly challenge. I used Tony LaRocca's suggestion for this weeks topic (yes, I had to admit I had not much inspiration for that one...).
Here is a courageous viking white blood cell fighting the villain virus (you get to choose what kind of virus!) Notice how our hero here is just about to defeat the enemy. Bling!
First time posting but I've been admiring peoples work here for a while. I saw this weeks topic and had created this Warrior piece recently so I had to post it! Cheers!
Fun sketch and stuffy design for WARRIOR. Fruit Loops bird flies higher than the average bird. Soars over tall shrubs and rescues folks with poor fashion design. Thought I'd start my first post with something fun and silly.

This is cool. I used to paint murals on the walls of my parents' house when I was a kid. This also reminds me of the drawings from the 1974 TV movie "Bad Ronald".

This is my warrior post, my first ever on monday art day! I made this using freehand mx..I'd like to use illustrator..but we don't have it here at work! Hope you like it!
I found another drawing that could possibly fit the weekly challenge "warrior".
This is from my sketchbook from last year. It's Bill "The Butcher" Poole, the actual guy that Daniel Day-Lewis' character was based on in "Gangs of New York", a movie I never saw. I did however do the layout for a textbook about the history of New York and the story of Tammany Hall, Boss Tweed and the early politics of New York stuck with me.
Bill Poole was a bare-knuckle boxer, a member of the Bowery Boys gang in New York, and the leader of the Know-Nothings political party. Poole's archenemy, John Morrissey, was an Irish immigrant and enforcer for Tammany Hall. Morrissey was also a popular boxer and challenged Poole to a match. Though the two men were of differing ethnic backgrounds and political parties, the initial grounds for their dispute may have arisen from an earlier bet by Poole on a boxing match. Poole placed his bet on Morrissey's opponent, "Yankee Sullivan". The fight took place at Four Corners on October 12th, 1853. Results of the boxing match were disputed, and Poole was against Morrissey being paid. Poole and Morrissey squared off in the ring to settle their dispute on July 26, 1854, at Amos Dock, New York. According to historian Mark Caldwell, during the fight Poole "bit and gouged, but won only when his friends joined the fight and kicked Morrissey unconscious." Morrissey plotted revenge and on February 25, 1855, Lew Baker, a friend of Morrisey, shot Poole at a bar on Broadway.
History class is over.

That's great, Maryam! You have a real knack for humor. I love the way the "warrior" is framed to emphasize his heroism, carefully leaving the tiny distressed worm out of the picture. Funny!

The Bag Ladies (Clinical Analysts). Ballpoint pen on my Moleskine ruled notebook
They go to work carrying bags. A bag for the computer, one for their papers, a purse, perhaps a lunch bag and always there is another to catch all. Sometimes they have it streamlined and they only lug a bag or strap on a purse. During project implementations they arrive en masse. Someone has been dispatched ahead of time to make sure there are enough snacks and pleasure food set up for the entire week. Managers rearrange their schedule to bring hot breakfast. There will be shifts and rotations, much like their schedule when they were in the front lines. This time they are everywhere. They are in the front lines and back. There will be so much stress and tension. They will be tired and sleepy. They will be loud and quiet. They will concentrate while working on a resolution. They will break to chat and laugh. There will be huddles and telephone conferences. They will walk the halls or sit glued to the computer. A lot of coffee, pots after pots and diet Coke at 3AM; 24 hours a day for as long as the implementation last. Shoes will come off, blazers come off, by the third day some may wish to come in their pajamas. They teach, guide, assist. Someone may yell at them. A doctor or nurse may scream at them. They just stand there maintaining their calm. They understand the tension and they care. They were once just like them, in the front lines. Today they are clinical analysts and they are supporting a major clinical application implementation. They are warriors but they did not come to battle. They came to build and establish.

This is really incredible! What an intense layering of ink on those pages! Wow! At first I thought you were talking about me--a shoulder bag, and then another bag holding what doesn't fit into that (but I'm getting a bigger shoulder bag so hopefully evrything will fit exscept my lunch when I carry that!). Hmm, I can't imagine what to draw now for this challenge . . .

The stylist for the amazing Bambi backgounds was the great Tyrus Wong who was born in China in 1910 and is still alive, here in Sunland, California. One of my heros. The stylist for the Peter Pan backgrounds was my all-time hero, Mary Blair. Wonderful you've noticed my influences, my friends!
Scribbler wrote on my blog that he looks like a "modern day Mowgli". I'm always amazed at how insightful you people are. I imagined and Indian or Southeast Asian boy protecting a European girl against some super-natural terror. Scenes of protection have always moved me the most.
I searched warrior at wikipedia, and I came up with a general description of war and battles and the people who love them. Then I came to a section about women warriors, specifically a character named Vishpala.
Vishpala was a woman in the Rigveda, a collection of Vedic Sanskrit hymns dedicated to Rigvedic deities. It is counted among the four Hindu sacred texts known as the Vedas.
Vishpala is helped in battle by the Ashvins (the doctors of gods). As she lost her leg in Khela's battle and they gave her a "leg of iron" so that she could keep fighting. Cool!
This immediatelty brought to mind Rose McGowan's character in the "Planet Terror" segment of "Grindhouse".
Many, many years ago, when I was in art school, I was taught to always look for reference material (or 'scrap') before doing an illustration. I searched Yahoo and Google for Female Warriors. This resulted in page after page of scantily-clad Frazetta amazons wielding giant broadswords and pictures of Xena. I thought, "If these women are headed for battle, wouldn't they be covered in armor?"
So, no femme fatale military bimbos for me. My Vishpala is using her new, god-given iron leg to kick some enemy ass!
wonderful, josh! i lovvve the line work, especially on the lighter chain mail/armor. and, the heavy color and scribbly line...it all adds to her persona. are you all prisma markers with this? it really looks great! :)

What is a warrior? A photograph comes to mind, something I saw some time ago, of a woman with her shirt off exposing a double-mastectomy, her fist raised in victory but a life-loving smile on her face. I'm not sure if it was titled "warrior" but it was just that in my mind.
Here's a few pieces from the archives - the first is a watercolor, the rest are PhotoShop. The first one is titled "Warrior", the next is Captain America, then a cowgirl, Kali, and finally me and some pissed-off mermaids.
I'll be doing an illo specifically for Monday Artday that I will post tomorrow.
