And I know a lot of you are reading that list and thinking, "BUT NONE OF THOSE ARE NEAR WHERE I LIVE!" I know. I'm sorry. I wish I could teleport and visit everyone. But alas, I have yet to manifest that ability. I also don't get to choose where my publisher sends me.

But if I'm not coming to see you--remember, you can get the same swaggish goodies I give out at events through the pre-order giveaway, which I will be posting all the details on next week! (Not sure which day yet--but all pre-orders count, so order anytime!)

And if you do live near my events--woo hoo, I hope you can make it to the signings! I would love to meet you!

I tend to get a lot of questions about events, so here's a few other pieces of info:
  • Every store has their own policy on bringing books from home to be signed at events, and I always defer to their wishes. If they're cool with it, I'm happy to sign any of my books that you bring. But if they don't allow that, then I can't sign them either. If you're worried, I'd call the store ahead of time and ask what their rules are. And even if they do allow you to bring books from home, it's always nice to buy *something* at the event as a way of thanking the store for hosting me. It doesn't have to be one of my books. Just something to support the store, since they go to a lot of effort to organize the event for me.
  • Yes, I'm happy to let you take a picture with me.
  • As far as I know, the only store doing wristbands is the B&N in Montclair, hosting the launch party. But if you're worried, you can always call the store to double check.
  • I'll be giving out the same swaggish goodies that will be part of the pre-order giveaway to everyone who comes to my events. So if you're coming to the event, you don't need to take part in the pre-order giveaway.
If I missed something, you're welcome to ask questions in the comments. Just make sure you ask the question on the actual blog post on my website and not on any of the places this blog feeds out to (like goodreads) because that's the only place I respond to them.

That's all for now--hope everyone has a great weekend. And check back next week for the Pre-Order giveaway!

2. LODESTAR Official Launch Party Details

Here we go again, guys.

We're about five weeks away from LODESTAR launching into the world.

*MUPPET FLAILING*

And like always, I have TONS of updates coming up, including the pre-order swag giveaway details and my final tour dates and locations. (you can actually find most of the tour info already on my events page if you're curious, but I'm still waiting on a couple of pieces of info so I'm waiting until I have EVERYTHING until I make an official post.)

I've also be sharing character art on social media--and have teasers coming up next month--so if you aren't following me on Instagram, you might wanna click HERE so you don't miss out)

And for those of you in SoCal (or thinking of visiting SoCal in November), here's the info for the official Launch Party:

And in case that graphic isn't loading for some reason, here are the details again in plain text:

Tuesday, 11/1/16
7:00 pm
Barnes &Noble Montclair Plaza
5183 Montclair Plaza Ln.
Montclair, CA 91763

And this year we're doing things a *little* differently. Since the signing line can get CRAZY long, we'll be using wristbands to make it easier for you guys. Don't worry--walk-ins the day of the event are still totally welcome. But if you want to make sure they don't run out of books and you'd like a guaranteed spot toward the front of the signing line, you can call (909)399-1966 and reserve your wristband for the event. Think of it as a Disneyland FastPass--only even more magical*

*okay, it's probably NOT more magical than Disneyland--can we call it a close second?

Wristbands will be organized into groups, so the sooner you call and reserve yours, the closer you'll be to the front of the line. Even better--it'll give us a better idea of how many cupcakes to bring (since we always seem to run out within minutes o.0) And the cupcakes this year are going to be SO GOOD--more on that later--so we want to make sure we have enough.

And as if free cupcakes aren't awesome enough, everyone who comes to the launch party and buys a copy of LODESTAR will get one of these shiny Verdi on Duty buttons (in addition to all the other swaggish goodies you'll see me talking about for the pre-order giveaway)

For those who don't live in SoCal or can't come to the launch, there will be a few other chances to get one of these buttons, but getting a wristband for the Launch Party guarantees you'll get one that night! (and those without wristbands at the launch party will most likely get one too--but the only way to guarantee it is to get the wristband, so seriously, call ahead and reserve yours!)

If you have any questions, feel free to ask away in the comments section below. Otherwise mark those calendars for 11/1/16.

And ....  that's it for now. But like I said--stay tuned. Soooooooooooooooooo many more exciting things are coming up over the next few weeks.

3. MMGM Links (4/4/16)

Another late deadline night--but here's the MMGM links.

Oh--and a couple of quick things.

First--if you missed this on my social media (and haven't checked my events page) here's the list of my upcoming Spring Events--hope to see some of you there:

Also, make sure you check back tomorrow because it's finally time for the LET THE WIND RISE Pre-Order giveaway to start.

Okay, now, on to the links:
- Michael Gettel-Gilmartin is swept away with THE TURN OF THE TIDE.  Click HERE to find his review.
- Suzanne Warr has an interview with author John Claude Bemis--with a GIVEAWAY! Click HERE for details
- Patricia at Children's Books Heal is singing praises for ECHO. Click HERE to see what she thought.
- Sue Kooky is caught up in THE IRON TRIAL Click HERE to read her review!
- Cindy at Cindy Reads A Lot is loving FISH IN A TREE.  Click HERE to see what she thought.
- Books 4 Learning is soaring for WORDS WITH WINGS. Click HERE to read her feature.
- Greg Partridge is going on THE REMARKABLE JOURNEY OF CHARLIE PRICE. Click HERE to see what he thought.
- Reading Violet is gushing about SEALED WITH A SECRET. Click HERE to see why.
- Sonora at Destined 4 Weirdness is cheering for THE RANGER'S APPRENTICE. Click HERE to see what she thought.
- The Mundie Moms are always huge supporters of middle grade. Click HERE for their Mundie Kids site.
- Karen Yingling also always has some awesome MMGM recommendations for you. Click HERE to which ones she picked this time!
- Joanne Fritz always has an MMGM for you. Click HERE to see what she's talking about this week.

If you would like to join in the MMGM fun, all you have to do is blog about a middle grade book you love on a Monday (contests, author interviews and whatnot also count--but are most definitely not required) and email me the title of the book you're featuring and a link to your blog at SWMessenger (at) hotmail (dot) com. (Make sure you put MMGM or Marvelous Middle Grade Monday in the subject line so it gets sorted accurately--and please don't forget to say what book you're featuring) You MUST email me your link by Sunday evening in order to be included in the list of links for the coming Monday. (usually before 11pm PST is safe--but if I'm traveling it can vary. When in doubt, send early!) (Also make sure the post you send me is a new post, not one from earlier in the week. I try to keep the content fresh)

If you miss the cutoff, you are welcome to add your link in the comments on this post so people can find you, but I will not have time to update the post. Same goes for typos/errors on my part. I do my best to build the links correctly, but sometimes deadline-brain gets the best of me, and I'm sorry if it does. For those wondering why I don't use a Linky-widget instead, it's a simple matter of internet safety. The only way I can ensure that all the links lead to safe, appropriate places for someone of any age is if I build them myself. It's not a perfect system, but it allows me to keep better control.

Thank you so much for being a part of this awesome meme, and spreading the middle grade love!

*Please note: these posts are not a reflection of my own opinions on the books featured. Each blogger is responsible for their own MMGM content and I do not pre-screen reviews ahead of time, nor do I control what books they choose. I simply assemble the list based on the links that are emailed to me.

4. MMGM Fail

Hey Guys,

I know lots of you probably sent me links to participate in MMGM this week. But alas, if you follow me on social media you know I've spent the last 5 days going back and forth to urgent care, trying different medicines, etc. It's been ALL KINDS OF FUN.

Don't worry--I'm not dying. I even think I'm finally on the mend. But I'm still pretty out of it. And I was technically supposed to turn in NEVERSEEN today (my lovely, amazing, wonderful, incredible editor was kind enough to grant me one final extension). So...no MMGM this week. But I'm hoping to be back on track next week.

And if you're planning to see me at the North Texas Teen Book Festival on Saturday, don't worry. I am still planning to be there. Details are on my events page if you'd like more information.

Thanks so much for your patience!

~S

And I know this is the point where those of you who do not live in any of these areas pout because I'm not coming to see you. Believe me, I'm sad too. I wish it were possible to go everywhere. But since it's not, I've got a couple of other options for how you can get signed books and some of the awesome tour goodies I'll be giving away:

  • If you want a hand-signed copy of EVERBLAZE and the swag I'll be giving out on tour (except the mirrors--those are only for the launch party), you can order a copy from the stores I'll be visiting and have them ship it to you. Independent booksellers tend to be the best organized for this, so I'd recommend either The King's English, Blue Willow, or Changing Hands. Shipping and availability may vary, so you'll want to be sure to ask. Phone numbers for all of the stores are listed above.
  • If you pre-order a copy of EVERBLAZE before 11/3/14, you can fill out the form on this blog for the Pre-Order Swag giveaway and as soon as I get home from tour, I will send you awesome signed swag. You'll get the Iggy postcard art print, a Keeper series bookmark, and a signed bookplate to stick in your copy and turn it into a signed hardcover (or put anywhere you'd like if you order the ebook.) Plus you'll have a chance to win some extra goodies (including a few of the exclusive launch party mirrors). And this offer is even open internationally--but is only for a limited time. Full details on how it works--and the form you'll need to fill out--can be found HERE

And in non-event related news: the KEEPER website has been totally redesigned, and it has some incredible new goodies I think you're going to LOVE!!! Go HERE to check it out, and be sure to keep an eye out for:

  • Sophie's Foxfire schedules
  • Foxfire Academy information
  • All the details you'll need to create your own Foxfire schedule
  • Awesome new character art
  • A quiz to discover your ability
  • A recipe for Mallowmelt
  • Plus an excerpt from EVERBLAZE--which includes the first TWO chapters (so yes, if you've read chapter one in the EXILE paperback, another chapter has been revealed!!!) Get thee there quickly for another early sneak peek!

Phew--I think that's everything!!! But as always, keep an eye on this blog, and my other social media because there's a good chance I'll have more updates in the days to come. I hope I get to meet some of you on tour, and that the rest of you sign up to get your swaggish goodies. And thank you all for the excitement and support--THE WAIT IS ALMOST OVER!!!!

6. EVERBLAZE Official SoCal Launch Party Details

Wow--we are less than five weeks away from the release of EVERBLAZE!!!!

(*cue all the jumping and flailing and scrambling and panicking*)

So keep an eye on this blog--and the rest of my social media--because I have ALL KINDS of fun updates coming for you, including the pre-order swag giveaway you're all so eagerly waiting for, and my Fall tour dates.

But while that's all getting finalized, I wanted to share one event that's already set: The Official EVERBLAZE Lauch Party!!!!  Here's all the deets:

And in case that graphic isn't loading for some reason, here the details are again in plain text:

Monday, 11/3/14
7:00 pm
Barnes & Noble Montclair Plaza
5183 Montclair Plaza Ln.
Montclair, CA 91763
909-399-1966

And yes--you're reading that date correctly. The official Launch party IS the day before EVERBLAZE comes out. So that means--if you come--you can buy your copy a day early!!!!!

As if that weren't incredible enough, let me give you another AWESOME reason to be there. Everyone who comes to the official launch--and buys a copy of EVERBLAZE--will also be given one of these amazing Black Swan mirrors:

For those who don't live in SoCal, I *will* be raffling off a few of these mirrors at each of my tour stops. Plus there will be a few online giveaways during the weeks after release to give everyone a chance to enter for one. But this Launch Party is the only time they'll be given out to everyone at the event. And they'll be given out first come, first served, while supplies last. So if you're worried about getting one, better get there early. :)

There will also be some very special RAFFLE PRIZES! And CUPCAKES!! And SWAG. And BOOKS!!! So many shiny copies of EVERBLAZE!!!! And I'll be signing ALL of them!!!!! Who doesn't want to be a part of that?????

It'll be the perfect way to kick off launch week, and I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!! I hope to see you there! Mark your calendars for 11/3/14. It's going to be EPIC!

I will also be at San Diego Comic Con this year!!!!

Thursday, July 24th

And I know I haven't been traveling as much as I did last year (trying--and failing--to keep up with deadlines). And many of you are looking at this list and thinking, but I don't live there!!! SORRY. I'm hoping to visit some new places this fall. But remember, you can also always call a store I'm going to be at (Independent Bookstores are especially awesome with this) and order a signed copy before my event. Then I can sign it, personalize it, and even include the extra swaggish goodies I give out at my events and they'll ship it straight to you.

Hope to meet some of you this summer!

9. Disneyland + YA Authors = SO MUCH WIN!!!

Hey guys!

I know I've gone back to being a VERY bad blogger (sigh). I promise, I'm going to TRY to be better. But in the meantime, I wanted to give a quick update about an event I have coming up at the end of March that I'm SUPER excited about.

Yes, that's right. An author event at DISNEYLAND. I mean, do you get anymore awesome than that??? I'm almost afraid it's so much awesome it's going to make the universe implode with awesome overload.

Here's the official event info from the organizers:
What’s better than books? Nothing! But rollercoasters come close. On Saturday, March 30, 2013, sixteen of your favorite young adult authors will put on their mouse ears for THE YAPPIEST DAY ON EARTH, the first (that we know of) YA Day at Disneyland. Bloggers, booksellers, librarians, and fans are invited to come spend the day riding with authors and chatting about current and upcoming releases. The event will culminate with a group signing at the Anabella Hotel, across the street from California Adventure.

10. Shannon-Events UPDATE!

Sorry it's been another quiet blogging week for me. I'm on another TIGHT deadline for LTSF #2--but I will hopefully be done with that next week or so and then MAYBE things really will get back to normal around here.

In the meantime I have some super-important Shannon Event Updates (well... I guess they're only Super-Important to those of you brave enough to attend a Shannon-Event. But I'm going to pretend you're ALL on the edge of your seats right now)

First--AND MOST IMPORTANTLY--the time and location of the LET THE SKY FALL launch party has CHANGED!!!! (this is why I should always have my publicist arrange things for me, she does such a better job!)

It's now going to be at one of my favorite independent book stores (I'm kind of geeking out about it because I've been to so many awesome events there): Mysterious Galaxy Books!!!

Here's the official deets--FOR REAL THIS TIME, I PROMISE!

LET THE SKY FALL Launch Party
Tuesday, March 5, 7:00 pm
Mysterious Galaxy Books
7051 Clairemont Mesa Blvd., Suite #302
San Diego, CA 92111
858-268-4747

I really hope some of you will be able to come. I promise rambling and embarrassing Shannon gestures (which will look super dorky in all of your pictures.) Plus prizes. AND YUMMY THINGS.  So you live in SoCal, please come. And bring your friends. GRAB STRANGERS. ;)

ALSO, for any of you who are writers, here's another event I have coming up that I highly, HIGHLY recommend you consider attending:

Big Sur Children's Writer's Workshop
March 1-3
Embassy Suites Hotel
Salinas, CA

This is seriously one of the best Writer's Conferences I've ever been to--and I've been to a LOT of conferences. If you're a writer and you want to improve your craft, THIS is the place to do itThey have a very unique format where you get to round table workshop actual pages from your drafts with agents, editors, and authors. I went in 2011 as an attendee and got some key feedback that made a huge improvement in LTSF and I'm sure is part of why it sold, so I'm SO honored that I'll be on the faculty this year. Yes, it is a tad pricey (though considering the rate includes your room and your meals it's actually one of the more affordable writers' conferences) but it's seriously worth every penny. Registration info is HERE. Faculty details are HERE.

And don't forget, I have some awesome events this weekend--it's not too late to decide to come. Here's the event info:

Young Adult Writing Conference:
When: Saturday, January 26th, 8:30am - 3:00pm
Where: Dobson High School
1501 W. Guadalupe Rd, Mesa 85202
For prices and registration info (plus a list of the full faculty) go HERE.

YAllapalooza:
When: Saturday, January 26th, 4:00pm
Where: Changing Hands Bookstore
6428 S McClintock Dr. Tempe,  Arizona 85283
Attending authors: Tom Leveen, Cecil Castelluci, Amy Fellner Dominy, Shannon Messenger, Suzanne Lazear, Janni Lee Simner, Kevin Emerson, Erin Jade Lange, Lisa McMann, Suzanne Young, James A. Owen, C.J. Hill (aka Janette Rallison), Laura Ellen, and Lisa Schroeder
For more info, go HERE.

 Mother-Daughter Book Party
When: Sunday, January 27th, 2:00pm - 4:00pm
Where: Flintridge Bookstore & Coffeehouse
1010 Foothill Boulevard ~ La Canada, CA
Cost: $5 for a ticket that covers both mother & daughter
(and gets you $2 off your first book purchase)
Attending authors: Joan Bransfield Graham, Leslie Margolis, Robin Mellom, Shannon Messenger, Lin Oliver, Jenn Reese, and Joyce Lee Wong
For more info, email Catherine Linka at: catherinel (at) flintridgebooks (dot) com

And one LAST thing to mark your calendars for (yes, I have a LOT of events coming up) is a signing/author panel I'm doing with my awesome agent-brother Chris Howard (ROOTLESS) and the lovely and hilarious Debra Driza (MILA 2.0) at the end of March. Here's the deets:

Wednesday, March 27th, 7:00 pm
Mysterious Galaxy Books
7051 Clairemont Mesa Blvd., Suite #302
San Diego, CA 92111
858-268-4747

Come hang out with us, I predict epicness. I mean, Chris has a British accent and Debra has pink in her hair--need I say more???

Okay, that's it for now--though I have some other events in the works and will update as soon as they're confirmed. Hope to see some of you guys there!

BUT, you are welcome to add your link in the comments on this post so people can find you!

*Please note: these posts are not a reflection of my own opinions on the books featured. Each blogger is responsible for their own MMGM content and I do not pre-screen posts ahead of time, nor do I control what books they choose. I simply assemble the list based on the links that are emailed to me ahead of time

12. Where's Shannon: The Comic-Con Edition

Yep--I'm traveling AGAIN.

Not far this time, just to downtown San Diego for that tiny little comics show--maybe you guys have heard if it? COMIC CON!

(And no, I'm not Cosplaying this year. I've survived two years of Rainbow Brite madness and I need a break from posing for pictures with skeevy guys)

I'm there to play, not work, so if you're going I can't tell you exactly where to find me. But I will be AROUND. And there's an extra good chance you'll spot me at any of the awesome author panels, sitting in the audience and heckling--erm, cheering on--my friends.

I do know S&S will be doing some KEEPER promo at the booth (and possibly at their panel on Thursday night) but unfortunately I don't have the details on when/if they'll be doing ARC giveaways (you know how it is, the author is always the last to know. Which is kinda cool 'cause it means THEY'RE doing the work--not me. YAY FOR THAT). So definitely stop by the booth and ask. You may even get to meet my amazing editor, who will be there (well... when she's not off fangirling Batman related things!)

Anyway, sorry for such a short and uninspired post. I promise I will try to be a better blogger next week, once I recover from the Comic Con insanity. (Assuming I SURVIVE the Comic Con insanity) And if you're there and you spot me, PLEASE feel free to come up and say Hi! I'd love to meet you!

Hope everyone has a great week!

13. ALA--Shannon Style (sorta)

Okay, so this will NOT be as awesome as my BEA recap, partially because my brain is still SUPER exhausted from the chaos of ALA, but mostly because I um... forgot to take pictures of almost everything. So... yeah. SORRY.

BUT I DID GET THE ALL IMPORTANT SHANNON-STANDING WITH THE KEEPER COVER DISPLAY AT THE S&S BOOTH PICTURE:

So... there's that. :)

(Somehow I'm betting you find that slightly less exciting than I do...)

Anyway, I keep trying to figure out how to sum up ALA--since the pictures I'm about to show you most definitely will NOT do that for me. But I'm struggling a bit.

In some ways it was much more relaxed than BEA, since I didn't have to get on a plane or switch time zones or do scary panels where all eyes were on me, expecting me to sound smart. Mostly I just hung out with friends:

With my crit partner Sara McClung and blogger extraordinaire Sasha

Walked around the booths seeing publishing friends, chatting with librarians, and snatching up amazing ARCs to read:

(a VERY small sampling. I have lots more--and yes, that definitely means I have some awesome giveaways coming up, both on the blog and on Twitter)

And went to various mixers/meet-ups:

With Kiersten White and the adorable Sophia Chang, and the YALSA Mix and Mingle.

S&S did some KEEPER promo (you already saw the display in the booth) and gave out another huge tower of ARCs--which was gone in 15 minutes. (I still don't know how to wrap my head around that) So sorry to those of you who'd been hoping to get one and didn't. There will still be some given away at Comic Con--and S&S still has some mailings to do (and I have some contests up my sleeve) so all hope is not lost! And THANK YOU for your amazing support and enthusiasm. You make me feel way cooler than I deserve to feel (especially those of you who stopped me at the booth and had me sign your ARCs. That was too surreal for words).

And... that's pretty much it. I mean, I did LOTS more fun things and hung out with lots more amazing people--and went to the awesome S&S party on Saturday n

14. Where's Shannon--The ALA Edition!

Yes, that's right--I've only barely recovered from BEA and yet I'm off again for a weekend in Anaheim at ALA.

THANKFULLY, my schedule is muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch less hectic this time, and involves no, "Shannon doing scary official things she could easily screw up." So phew--I might actually get to relax this time! (well... as much as I'm capable of relaxing...)

I can confirm that S&S WILL be giving out KEEPER OF THE LOST CITIES ARCs at booth 2600-2601 (more info on what giveaways they'll be doing can be found HERE).

As for me, I'll mostly be wandering the exhibit floors and would love to say hi if you spot me--don't be shy. I'm also happy to sign any ARCs. And I'll have pretty bookmarks with me!!! (also, warning: I get OBLIVIOUS in crowds, so please don't take it personally if I walk right past you. Just throw an ARC at my head).

I'm also *planning* to be at the following evening meet-ups--for at least part of the time:

The Middle Grade Meet-Up
Friday, June 22nd 7:30 PM
Hilton Anaheim Lobby

YALSA Mix and Mingle
Friday, June 22nd, 5:00 PM
Mortons, Anaheim

The Great YA Blogger Meet-up
Saturday, June 23rd 8:00 PM
Degrees Wine and Patio Bar at the Marriott

Hopefully the convention center will have better cell service than the Javits and I will be able to Tweet and FB more updates. Either way, expect a full report when I'm back next week--along with some contests for the awesome ARCs I manage to grab.

In the meantime, have a great weekened!

15. BEA Shannon Style!

It's highly possible that I'm the last person in the blogosphere to do a BEA recap--but even a few days later I'm still trying to process the absolutely amazing experience.

I wish I had taken more pictures, but thanks to my hectic schedule I didn't have a lot of time. So here's a few of my favorites--some of which I've shamelessly stolen from Twitter/FB (so if one of these was taken by you, THANK YOU!), and I'm posting them in order, so you can sort of feel like you're reliving it all with me (and warning, I did a LOT, so this will be a LONG post! Brace yourself).

Sunday:
After an awesome afternoon of real NY pizza (SO GOOD) and a matinee of NEWSIES (EVEN BETTER) I headed to the Hudson Terrace for the S&S Teen Blogger Preview, a private YA-related event featuring me, Lenore Appelhans, Jenny Han, Tonya Hurley, Carmen Rodrigues, and Siobhan Vivian--all of whom were every bit as lovely, funny, and amazing as you'd expect them to be.

I wish we'd taken a group shot of all of us, but instead all I have is photos of me during my interview time:

Jenny asked the BEST questions and made the event so much fun--even if I did totally mishear her at one point and answer that I wanted to marry Nagini (the evil snake from Harry Potter) (yeah... don't ask--it was a total Shannonfail).

I've been to dozens and dozens of these kind of events, so it was SO SURREAL to be on the "author" side of the experience, waiting in the green room, being up on stage--oh, and this:

The GORGEOUS display S&S did behind the bar with all of our covers. I still have a hard time believing that one of those is MY COVER for MY BOOK with MY NAME. It's kind of amazing I didn't jump over the bar and hug it.

S&S also gave out goody bags with all of our ARCs, plus the coolest LET THE SKY FALL swag EVER:

It's a battery powered fan WITH A WIND PUN ON THE LABEL!!!! I <3 S&S so much.

Monday:
The day started cold and rainy, so I spent the morning racing to Macys to find tights to go with my dress so I wouldn't freeze that night. Then it was off to the S&S Building to meet with Liesa Abrams, my editor--and to meet even

Pretty sure you guys know this by now, but if you need me, I'm not here.

I'M IN NEW YORK FOR BEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

17. Are you ready for some shenanigans????

I sure hope so, because I am packing them up and bringing them all over the place. (So if you can't handle my crazy you'd best consider fleeing).

It's going to be a CRAZY year with all kinds of events and things and places to find me--if you're so inclined. So I've gone ahead and added an Appearances page to this blog to help you all keep track, and I will be updating it regularly as things confirm / get added. But in case you don't feel like clicking over, here's some details on some upcoming events:

April 20th 6-9pm (hey--that's TONIGHT! OMG!)
Pomona College, Room SCC-217
The 5 Cs Out Loud is hosting a special dinner and workshop, where I will be giving a lecture on "Creating a Killer Plot!" (and *trying* to sound as smart as possible. If I can't pull that off I promise lots of Shannon Shame). The dinner is only for club members, but the workshop is open to anyone. Just email ahead of time so they know to have enough chairs.  For more details, or to let them know you're coming, contact christinabejjani (at) gmail (dot) com

April 21
LA Times Festival of Books
I am there as a fan, not officially--and I'm not sure which panels I'm hitting, but I'll be "around". So if you spot a giggling blonde girl feel free to come over and say Hi!

Saturday, May 19th 2-5 pm
Still getting all the details on exactly what I'll be doing, but I'll be there for sure and will update as soon as I know more. You're also welcome to contact the org

18. ROAD TRIP!!!!

One car...

Two authors hopped up on soda and candy....

                                                                                               ENDLESS possibilities for shenanigans!!!

Yes, that's right--if you need me, I'm not here.

I'm HERE:

Well... actually, most likely I'm here:

In the middle of the Arizona desert, driving to Changing Hands with specially chosen playlists of music, massive quantities of sugar, and Kiersten White clinging white-knuckled to her seatbelt and wondering why she chose to put her life in the hands of a sugar-crazed blonde.

Yes, it is going to be EPIC!

Kiersten is going because she is one of the awesome authors at Changing Hands' YAllapalooza this weekend.

*I* am going to hang with the authors and hope they don't realize I've snuck my way into the cool people club through plotting and scheming. Oh, and to see my ever-awesome friend Faith (aka the Book Babe) and soak up whatever wisdom about surviving my debut year she's willing to offer.

Plus manicures.

So yeah, it's looking to be a VERY exciting weekend.  Especially since Kiersten and I are rooming together. Poor thing has NO idea what she's in for.

But I'll be back Sunday to pick contest winners, and back Monday for a VERY exciting week. So stay tuned everyone. And have a great weekend!

19. Ever have one of those weeks?

I gotta say, the whole back-to-back deadlines thing is... well... EXHAUSTING.

It's partially my fault. I let my husband book a vacation at the beginning of the year--before my book sold and I knew anything about deadlines and whatnot--and the trip officially has THE WORST TIMING EVER. So I'm scrambling, trying to get everything done before I leave on Friday and, well...

So, *heavy sigh* I think I have to duck away from blogging again. Probably until Monday, November 14th, when I get back.

I'M SO SORRY!

I'm so going to miss you guys. But I'm crashing and burning here so... it has to be done. I may pop in if something important comes up--or if I suffer too many blogging withdrawls. (And I still have some winners to post--I'll make sure I don't miss that).

Otherwise I'll see you guys in about a week and a half. And I promise I'll be back with a contest or something to reward you for  your long-suffering when I get back!

Have a great time without me!!!!

20. Retreat!

Believe it or not, I'm traveling again!

(I know, my suitcase has gotten more use this summer than like, the last 3 years combined.)

This time, I'm heading here:

Nashville, Tennessee!

Well... actually, I'm going near there. Specifically, here:

A cabin in... well... kinda the middle of nowhere.

But that's the point. It's my very first Writer's Retreat!!!!!! (I feel so... writerly.)

My friends CJ Redwine, Sara McClung, and MG Buehrlen and I have been planning it for months. We wanted a small group, so we'd actually get work done (in theory...) somewhere with lots of trees and no noise or distractions. AND WE'RE EVEN GOING TO TRY TO GET WORK DONE!!!!! (though... CJ and I are fairly famous for our shenanigans...)

So, at this point you're probably wondering why I'm telling you all of this (since, I have a feeling you guys aren't nearly as excited about my retreat as I am.) Mainly, I wanted you to know that I won't be blogging again until Monday (what WILL you do to fill the empty void in your lives???) (*is slightly delusional*). But also... four writers holed up in a cabin in the middle of nowhere could get... interesting. (Especially with CJ there and her were-llamas.) So if you hear any strange noises--or the zombie duck apocalypse begins, well... you'll know why.

Be afraid. Be very afraid. :)

Hope everyone has a great rest of the week!

21. Off to La La Land

Believe it or not, I am packing up AGAIN (I don't think my suitcase has ever had as much use as it has this year) and heading out of town. This time to LA for the SCBWI International Conference.

I am SO excited you guys!!!! SO EXCITED!
(I'm guessing you already know this if you saw my post yesterday)

I'm rooming with my fellow WriteOnCon planner and all around awesome friend, Casey McCormick, who I haven't seen since last year's conference. And I have plans to meet up with so many awesome people, some I've met before, some I have been dying to meet forever. It's going to be so much fun!!! (is it tomorrow yet?????)

I promise I will have a full report when I get back--plus pictures (I can't wait to show you guys the T-Shirt I had made for the Pajama Party!). But for now, I have just slightly less than 7854 things to do before I leave, and only a few hours to do them in. So I'm going to have to keep this post short, sweet, and ... rather uninspiring. Sorry.  I will make it up to you when I get back (and I have some awesome contests running in the meantime--here and here and here--which I will still post the winners for on Sunday.)

And if any of you are going to be there, PLEASE let me know, so I can keep an eye out for you. I love meeting my blog followers in person. It's like, WOW THE PEOPLE IN THOSE LITTLE SMILING SQUARES ARE REAL!!!!! :)

Hope everyone has a great rest of the week! See you when I get back!

22. Shannon --> Out

Okay, I KNOW I keep disappearing on you guys. (I *might* have gone a little overboard when I booked my summer schedule). But I have to do it again because as you read this, I am on my way to San Diego for Comic Con.

I'm totally, TOTALLY excited. But I'm also bracing for impact. See ... Comic Con is kind of an adventure.

There's the whole: fighting-your-way-through-the-exhibits thing (they say on the floor at any given time is about 65,000 people. It is MADNESS!!!)

And the whole: being-surrounded-all-day-by-people-like-THIS thing:

Need I say more?

(And, no--*I* will not be dressed like that. You'll thank me later.)

But I WILL be in costume--at least one of the days. And I'm still deciding if Rainbow Brite will make a reappearance too (I can't decide if it's lame or funny to rock the Brite 2 years in a row).

So I promise, when I get back, there will be LOTS of pictures and SHANNON SHAME GALORE!!!! (Hopefully that will compensate for my taking the rest of the week off blogging).

(I'm sure I'll also be tweeting and updating FB throughout the next few days, so keep your eyes out for that)

I hope everyone has a fabulous rest of the week and a much more relaxing weekend than I'll be having. See you all on Monday!

23. ALA Photos!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes--I'm back! BURIED from being gone for 5 days. But back! And OMG you guys--I had SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much fun at ALA.

It was hot. And exhausting. And I almost missed my flight there thanks to some major traffic (had to sprint through the airport and everything). But it was SO worth it because LOOK AT ALL THE COOL PEOPLE I MET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I FINALLY GOT TO MEET ELANA JOHNSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(and she is EVERY bit as awesome as I knew she would be!)

That's me with Kirsten Hubbard, Courtney Moulton, Carolina Valdez Miller and Veronica Roth on Bourbon Street, where a huge group of us met to hang out.

Did I mention it was a HUGE group?
Far, far too many cool peeps in this picture. How many do you recognize?

This is me with Jo Whittemore, Elana, and her lovely editor Anica Rissi at the S&S Party

With PJ Hoover and Jay Asher--two of my favorite members of my Laura Rennert family--at Cafe Beignet. Mmmmmmmm...beignets

With Tere Kirkland--who was a GODSEND for us, since she lives in NOLA and could tell us good places to eat. She is probably so sick of us texting her!

24. If you need me...

I'll be HERE:

And I'll be:

-eating my weight in beignets

-touring the french quarter

-nomming on all kinds of fried cajun deliciousness

-wilting in the heat

AND

(most importantly)

-Meeting with all kinds of amazing author friends and grabbing all KINDS of amazing ARCs (which I promise I will share with you guys) at the ALA annual conference!!!!

*jumps up and down*

I don't leave till tomorrow morning (EARLY--ugh) but I have just slightly less than 53,000 things to do before I leave, so I don't have time to write a proper post today. And I'll be on a blogging hiatus until at least Wednesday of next week.

But I promise a full report and pictures when I get back. And of course, some awesome ARC contests.

Hope everyone has a great rest of the week/weekend!!!!!

Oh, and if you'll be there, drop me an email so I know to keep an eye out for you!

25. For all you Stalkers out there!

Um...I really hope that blog title won't bring out the Creepers. You guys are all normal, right? Relatively, at least? :)

Anyway, I wanted to let you guys know some of the events I'll be at this summer--NOT because I think any of you are going to be like: What? Shannon Messenger is going? WELL THEN I MUST GO TOO! (Honestly, I'm more worried you'll be like: oh, SHE'S going to be there? must. cancel. plans.) Really, I just want to know how many of YOU will be there, so I can keep an eye out for you.

So here's the big conventions/conferences I'll be at:

June 23-28th
ALA Summer Conference
New Orleans
(It's my first time in NOLA, and while I'm dreading the heat, I AM SO EXCITED!)

July 20-24
Comic Con
San Diego
(still deciding if I'll be in costume at any point...)

July 26th
SUPERNATURALLY launch party
B&N Oceanside, CA
(wouldn't miss it for the world!)

August 4-7
SCBWI International Conference
Los Angeles
(still trying to find pajamas for the pajama party)

I'll definitely be hoping to hit some other signings and things in the mix, but these are the things I WILL be at, barring some weird, fluke-y, "life happens" thing. So the real question is: will any of you be there too?

Let me know in the comments, so I know to keep an eye out for you!
