The school year always brings an end to the hot dry season in Utah. Temperatures cool off, and we finally get some rain. And if there's rain we must play in it.
My favorite place to get children's rain products is Kidorable.com.
They have a fun selection of umbrellas, raincoats,
and even backpacks.
Rain gear can be uncomfortable. Because Kidorable products are so whimsical and fun not only will my girls wear their gear, but they ask too.
Since we'll be walking Kik to the bus stop this year, I thought that Bid needed her very own pair of rain boots. And since every walk we ever take turns into a bug hunt, I thought the
Ladybug Boots would be perfect for her.
When we got them in the mail, she insisted on putting them on and modeling them right away.
She loves them!
They are always quite an attention grabber. Someone almost always stops me to ask where we got the girls such cute rain stuff.
To Buy - Not only are Kidorable Boots adorable, but they are durable as well. Kik has had the same pair of boots for more than a year and they are still in great condition. The boots retail for $29.99, but are on sale right now until Aug. 31st for

If you don't have a 10 month old boy, a 3 year old girl, or a 6 year old girl, no worries - I still have the perfect gift idea for you.
You need to check out Happy Toy Machine where you can design and create your own stuffed animals.
To begin all you have to do is go to the website, and click create a toy. Then decide if you want to go with one of their traditional mix-a-lots, or one of their brand new smushimals. From their, the customization options are endless.
I guess that's technically not true. If you want to be accurate, the options aren't really "endless". With over 120 facial features, 40+ body parts, 50+ body decorations, and numerous colors to choose from, there are only about a quadrillion possible combinations - not endless.
My girls can spend hours creating new characters. They love to design and color coordinate new friends. Here are some of their favorite creations.
They are kind of weird looking, but completely fun and unique. For extra personality, you can even add a birthplace and pick some of the character's favorite things.
As fun as it is to just sit down and make new characters, the girls and I were really curious to see what a finished stuffed animal looked like. So I had them sit down together and gave them the task of designing the perfect toy for Co. After a lot of deliberation, they finally came up with this creepy Robot Monster.
This summer has been uncommonly hot and dry in Utah. Granted, Utah is a desert. But this summer it feels like someone sucked all of the moisture out of the air and then lit the whole state on fire. Literally.
I usually enjoy summer. But with all of the heat and smoke this year, I really wish it was winter. First of all, it would be a lot cooler. And secondly, winter = Christmas = presents.
To help us cool down my family and I have been using the heat as an excuse to eat as much Unilever ice cream and frozen treats as humanly possible.
My girls current favorite are Jolly Rancher Popsicles.
Kik describes them as layers of color and tastiness, that she can't get enough of.
My husband is in LOVE with the new
Good Humor York Peppermint Patty Bars. He won't let me try one, but tells me that they are "an extra creamy frozen peppermint patty accented with dark chocolate." He says that if you took a circus peanut and took away all the graininess so it just melts in your mouth, and then added smooth mint ice cream, you would have a York Peppermint Patty Bar.
I have a couple of favorites. For a classic ice cream fix, I really like the new Breyers Chocolate
REESE’S.
This new variety features chunks of REESE’S® Peanut Butter Cup pieces and REESE’S® Peanut Butter Cup swirl in chocolate frozen dairy dessert.
Occasionally I need something a bit smaller and more portable that I can "sneak" eat. I know its bad, but sometimes I just don't want my kids to know I'm eating ice cream because then they won't want to eat dinner, (or breakfast, or lunch). My favorite go to quick eat are
Klondike Bars - especially the Rocky Road. I'm usually just a strict chocolate girl, but you can't go wrong adding creamy marshmallows.
As much as I love all of the above, my absolute favorite are the new Double Chocolate
Magnum Ice Cream Bars. The Magnum bars are rich chocolate syrup sandwiched in between 2 creamy chocolate shells, with chocolate ice cream in middle.
All I can really say is Mmmm. If you love chocolate you need to try these.

Excluding the heat, July is one of my favorite months of the year. My husband is home for the summer, and there is always something going on in Utah. Last night we watched 4+ big city fireworks shows from my backyard, and there are parades and festivals all month long.
To get in the spirit of things, I thought it would be fun to introduce all of you to some of the fun historical costumes available from Wholesale Halloween Costumes.
For the 4th -
In Utah we also have a state holiday on the 24th to celebrate when the first pioneers came to Utah. We're big on
American History here and lots of people do reenactments, have balls, and even go on cross country treks to honor our state's settlers. So for the 24th -
I've seen a lot of pioneer costumes in my day. Most are home made and not very attractive or comfortable looking. I love the prairie lady costume because it looks fancier than most, but would still work for a variety of activities.
The costume has a full skirt so it does have a bit of netting, but it isn't restrictive at all.
To Buy - The Prairie Lady costume retails for just $37.90 at Wholesale Halloween Costumes and includes the bonnet, the belt, and the dress. It comes in a standard size and is made to fit bust 34-38 and waist 26-32. I'm pretty average in size and my measurements fall in the middle of both categories. When I tried the dress on it was a bit roomy, but fit well when I added the belt.
It's definitely worth checking out!
Unfortunately I don't have a way to take a picture of myself in the costume but will add one when I can get my husband to take one!

Mornings would be so much brighter if every box of cereal contained a book to read! That's why I always look forward to the Cheerios Spoonfuls of Stories® program every year. The Spoonful of Stories program recently celebrated its 10 year anniversary with the distribution of more than six million children books! This year's books could be found free inside specially marked Cheerios boxes starting in March 2012. However, if your area is anything like ours, the boxes flew off the shelves! But don't worry if you missed all the new stories this year -- read on for a giveaway you won't want to miss.
Several great Simon & Schuster small-sized paperback books were offered this year in the Cheerios boxes. The selection featured six picture book titles, written in both English and Spanish and appropriate for ages three to eight:
● Noodle & Lou by Liz Garton Scanlon and illustrated by Arthur Howard
● Hello Baby! by Mem Fox and illustrated by Steve Jenkins
● If I Were a Jungle Animal by Amanda Ellery and illustrated by Tom Ellery
● Peeny Butter Fudge by Toni and Slade Morrison and illustrated by Joe Cepeda
● Mostly Monsterly by Tammi Sauer and illustrated by Scott Magoon
● Can I Just Take a Nap? by Ron Rauss and illustrated by Rob Shepperson
In addition to providing books in the cereal boxes, Cheerios made a $300,000 donation to First Book, a literacy focused non-profit, and also gave 5000 children's books to 10 First Book local volunteer chapters nationwide.
I applaud Cheerios for promoting literacy through this wonderful book distribution program. If only they could continue the program year round, and work together with other publishers, to get more free books in the hands of children!
One of the best things about the books is that they are bilingual! (And, due to the small paperback size (7" x 5-1/4"), they are also very portable and easy to stash inside a bag for trips.) My kids and I have been reading a few of the Spoonful of Stories titles this week to brush up on our Spanish just in time for Cinco de Mayo.

Both my kids really enjoy reading Tammi Sauer's
Mostly Monsterly (Mayormente Monstruosa). The book stars a mostly monsterly little girl monster named Bernadette (though for a monster she's not really all that
May is officially birthday month in our house, so to celebrate I'm going to introduce you to some great gifts for kids. Today's gift idea is Wuggle Pets.
Wuggle Pets are little mini stuffed animals that kids can stuff themselves.
The starter kits retail for $19.99 and come with 2 animals and all the necessary stuffing.
All you have to do is hook the wiggle pet to the front of the machine, and then put the stuffing and sprinkles in the top.
Then you twist the crank until the pet fills up. Then you give them a name and a personality, and zip up the back.
My girls thought it was so fun to create their pets. They thought it was so fun to watch them fill up and give them secret personalities. But their very favorite part was naming them and clicking them to their backpacks. Here we have Pixie Dust the Dog, and Sassy Pants the Unicorn.
To Buy - The Wuggle Pet starter kit retails for $19.99 and contains
- Cuddly Puppy And Magical Unicorn Pets With Clip Attached
- 1 Fun Filled Factory
- 2 Bags of Fluffy Stuffing
- 12 Personality Charms Pet Pet
- 2 Bags of Magic Dust
- 2 Birth Certificates
- 1 Zipper-Up Tool
The Party Pack retails for $49.99 and also contains the Funny Monkey, Sunny Bunny, Earful Elephant, Playful Pony, Clever Raccoon, and the Bashful Bear. Check out

Today you're cordially invited to my daughter's virtual coloring fashion show, a glitzy extravaganza showcasing the new Rosie Flo's Fashion Show Pop-up Coloring Runway Set. My daughter has worked hard and long to ready her fabulous models and spectators for the show.
Rosie Flo's Fashion Show is a box gift set published by Chronicle Books that contains a ready-to-assemble paper theater and catwalk along with 18 paper models, 8 front-row spectators and a little poodle for kids to color and personalize. There are also pop-up chairs for the front-row spectators, little invitations to pass out and a paper camera to set up at the show. Instead of designing dresses, kids get to complete the character line drawings, a sort of "filling-in-a-person" drawing activity. Like all Rosie Flo products many line drawing dresses are ready for a creative mind to take over and add heads, faces, legs, arms and all the extra flourishes. Kids get creative by making up their own characters to fit the costumes.
The pop-up theater is impressively detailed, both inside and out. Models "get-ready" at the outside back of the theater in a dressing room and then enter through the doors onto the catwalk. No glue or scissors is required and the theater itself isn't too hard to assemble though smaller kids will probably need some assistance. According to the outside of the box, this set is recommended for ages six and up but with parental help I imagine younger kids would also enjoy coloring and creating the models.
My artsy daughter has already spent several hours drawing and coloring the models and spectators in her set and still has several more models to color. I asked what she likes most about this product and she replied that, "It is better than a coloring book because when you are done coloring you can play with it. It is hard work but a lot of fun because you get to draw people."

Models walking the catwalk.
A variety of spectators watch the fashion show.As a parent I really like that this set challenges young artists by helping them practice
Bid wakes up a a lot at night - and I mean a lot a lot. She has no sense of time and always climbs in our bed and wants us to turn on the tv. It doesn't matter what time it is, or how long she's been asleep she wants to watch our tv.
I hate it! Between Bid and Baby Co I rarely get a full night of sleep. Baby Zoo has created a great product to help parents like me and kids like Bid - The Momo Alarm Clock.
The Baby Zoo Sleep Trainer Momo Alarm Clock functions like a regular alarm clock, but is specifically designed to help little kids know when to wake up. The monkey closes it's eyes during the nighttime hours, and opens it's eyes when it's time for little ones to wake up.
Another fun feature is that you can have the alarm set to a fun jungle sound or even turn off the volume completely. This is great because I don't necessarily want to wake Bid up early, but I do want her to know when it's okay to wake me up.
The Momo is also a good alarm clock for school aged children because it has an analog clock and a digital clock. Since Kik is just learning to tell time, it's a great way to help her practice.
The clock features
- Analog & digital clock;
- Opening/closing eyes at your preferred time;
- Kids Alarm Clock with jungle alarmsound, with adjustable volume (can switch off completely);
- Nightlight, automatically shuts down after 30 seconds.
To Buy - The Baby Zoo Sleep Trainer Momo Alarm Clock retails for $39.99 from
Kastel International and is a great option for kids. They also have a fun Gus nightlight and Coco digital music player that are perfect for helping kids with their nighttime routines.
For more info and special offers you can also check out

Both my girls could crawl by the time they were 4 and a half months and walk by the time they were 9 months. Baby Co is 6 months old and a bit behind. He doesn't crawl so much as scoot. He does a sort of push up, sticks his bum high in the air, and pushes backwards on his tippy toes. As hard as he tries he just can't seem to go forward. It's super cute, but his legs and feet are always getting stuck under couches and doors.
Because of this what Co wears (or doesn't wear) on his feet is very important. With bare feet he gets scratched up. Socks are slippery. And most shoes fall off his sausage feet easily - which means he either has bare feet or slippery socks all of the time. One of my very favorite brands of shoes for transitioning babies are Pedipeds.
Co has the Original Adrian Chocolate Brown Shoes and I absolutely love them.
Pediped Originals have skid-resistant leather soles perfect for young kids like Co that are learning to walk or crawl. The shoes are flexible and don't get in the way when Co pushes off his tippy toes.
But my very favorite thing about the shoes is that they stay on his feet! I don't know if it's the shape of the shoe or the velcro, but they've never fallen off.
All of the Pediped Originals line of shoes feature
- All Natural Leather Sole
- New Diamond Patterned Tread
- 2 Layers of Leather plus soft foam insert for protection
To Buy - The Originals Adrian - Chocolate Brown shoes retail for $33.00, and are a great buy! For more information and special deals check out

One of the "transitional" stages that I find the most frustrating is potty training. With Bid it's been the bane of my existence.
Our potty training journey started last summer when she decided that sitting on the potty was fun. She would sit on it every morning till she went, and she was so proud of herself. She wouldn't sit on it later in the day, but we were happy with a baby step. Then we decided to see what would happen if we let her wear undies all day. She had so many accidents and absolutely hated it. In one afternoon Bid went from using the potty regularly to refusing to even get her diaper changed.
Over the last couple of months we've been working on trying to get her more comfortable. We've had a potty party, tried different reward tactics, all with no result. We decided to try and make potty time more fun with a new potty from Summer Infant - The Story Time Potty.

The Story Time Potty is a cute frog potty designed to keep little ones entertained. All you have to do is push a button and the potty actually reads a story to the potty trainee.
For the first time in month, Bid has shown in interest in the potty again. She loves to sit down and listen to the Freddie Frog Story. She still doesn't go all the time, but there has been a definite improvement.
Bid has had a few different potties and she thinks that this one is by far the most comfortable. She doesn't get weird lines on her legs when she sits on it for too long.
To Buy - As a mom I love this potty. It's easy to clean and wipe up. Also the bottom of the potty isn't open, so there are no "accidents". The potty also features.
- Built-in splash guard for boys
- Removable trainer with handles keeps the training process going when transitioning to the adult potty
- Base of potty can be used as a step stool
I would definitely recommend it! For more information on this or any other Summer Infant Product, you can also check out their
facebook or
twitter pages.

As most of my readers know, I have 3 kids - a 5 month old, a two year old, and a kindergartener. Right now all of them are going through a transitional period, learning and growing every day. Baby Co is learning to crawl, sit, and eat like a big boy. Kik is learning to read and fend for herself in a school environment. And Bid is learning to use the potty, control her emotions, and be a big girl in general. Because of this, I thought it would be fun to have an event that highlighting products geared towards these transitional stages.
The first product I want to tell you about are Wonder Bumpers from Go Mamma Go Designs.
All of my children have had the same crib. It's in good condition and pleasant to look out, but I still have problems with it.

When Kik was 4 and a half months she would scoot backwards and get her leg caught in between the bars. She would try to get out herself and would end up with a scraped leg. With Bid we were ready for the problem and put up a traditional bumper fir a short time. But because it decreased airflow and made it so she could pull herself up, we quickly took it out.
I didn't want to deal with either problem with Baby Co, so I started looking for solutions on the internet. After a little searching I found Wonder Bumpers and had to try them out for myself.
Wonder Bumpers are vertical crib bumpers that zip around each crib rail individually.
This leaves space between each rail for airflow, but padding for baby comfort.
Wonder Bumpers feature
- 100% Cotton
- Poly-foam insert
- Lead-free zipper
- Machine or Hand Washable
- And most styles are reversible
To use a Wonder Bumper all you have to do is fold it around the crib rail and zip up. Most of the styles are reversible so you can rotate the pattern to suit your taste.
Because it matches the color of the room perfectly, we went with the
Blue Damask.
To break up the pattern I decided to alternate the solid side and blue damask print. I love it! It's smooth and silky, and it looks so fancy!
Because my crib rails are all d

Our personal Elf on the Shelf, Larch, arrived in the wee hours of the night to keep an eye out for good and/or naughty behavior. He is here to stay until Christmas Eve. So far he has spent most of his time lingering near the TV. That location gives him a pretty good vantage point of the proceedings in our home, but I'm pretty sure he chose the location so that he could watch movies at night when we're sleeping, namely the newly released Disney DVD, Prep & Landing
.
In this short, animated Disney flick, Santa's "prep and landing" unit (comprised of a team of talented elves) readies homes for Santa's arrival on Christmas Eve. The elves scan for creatures stirring with a nifty gingerbread detector, perform cookie assessments, measure the tree and prep the landing zone. Santa's top "prep and landing" guy Wayne has been at the job for 227 years. Peeved at Santa for not giving him a promotion, he nearly botches a stealth operation at poor little Timmy's house. Wayne's rookie partner, Lanny, reminds him why his job is so important, and the two work together to right the "figgy pudding" situation and save Timmy's Christmas.
Really, I can't blame our elf for wanting to watch the DVD over and over (he's not the only one who has watched it multiple times in our family). After all, Prep & Landing is certainly a very funny and very entertaining holiday special, and it just so happens to star several awesome elves. The show originally aired in 2009 on ABC and is the first animated television special produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. An immediate hit, Prep & Landing has since won several awards including an Emmy® Award in 2010 for Outstanding Animated Program. What can I say, our elf has good taste!
The adventure features the quality animation you'd expect from Disney and appeals not only to elves, but children and adults of all ages. The show cracks me up every time I watch it with memorable quips like, "This is so tinsel" and "Oh, Frostbite!" All of Santa's crew have code names or call signs. Santa goes by "Partridge" and the reindeer are the "Eight maids a-milking," a nickname they clearly don't appreciate.
It's really too bad the "Prep and Landing" feature show is
only 22 minutes long! The story is so cute, Disney could have easily made it into a much longer feature. Short is OK with us, though.
Prep & Landing, a modern day classic, lives up to the standards set by other family holiday television classics like Rudolph, The Grinch and Frosty!
For those that want more, the DVD does offer a couple amusing bonuses:
"Operation Secret Santa" - In this sequel to "Prep and Landing," Mrs. Claus (Betty White) asks La

Like many children growing up in the 70s, I thank Disney for the introduction to the timeless, classic children's book character Winnie the Pooh. My brother and I listened to our Winnie the Pooh vinyl record and followed along with the accompanying storybook over and over and over. I still can sing the Winnie the Pooh theme song from memory. It's a sweet as honey tune that sticks in your head, one you never forget.
Those fond childhood memories are one of the reasons I'm so excited that Disney has released an all-new, animated film based on the loveable bear all stuffed with fluff. The new Winnie the Pooh
movie, first shown in theaters this summer, is now available for purchase on DVD and Blu-ray Combo pack. Amidst the flurry of new movie releases, including Cars 2 and the final Harry Potter film, Winnie the Pooh is a welcome and familiar return to the basics, a movie full of quiet humor and heartwarming charm.
On an ordinary day, Pooh sets out to find some honey but gets sidetracked and ends up helping out his friends. Pooh discovers that poor Eeyore has lost his tail and the all the friends -- Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Kanga and Roo -- engage in a contest searching for a replacement. The group suggests all sorts of silly and inadequate replacement tails including a cuckoo clock, accordion, and dart board but nothing suffices. While thinking of a way to win the contest, Pooh discovers a note from Christopher Robin but, unable to read it himself, he takes it to Owl. Owl misinterprets the note, “Gone out. Busy. Back soon.” With great concern, he remarks that Christopher Robin has been captured by a "Backson." The group then switches their focus on a way to capture the Backson, and Eeyore's tail eventually turns up.
Returning to the style of the original Disney Pooh featurettes, this new movie has that same hand-drawn animation look with the classic warm watercolor backgrounds. Additionally, the movie opens with live scene set, a view of Christopher Robin's bedroom filled with toys. But what I appreciate the most is the storybook narration and wonderful integration of the book pages into the film. The characters interact with the text; they climb on the letters and walk on the pages of the book while the narrator (John Cleese) talks. It feels exactly as if the story has come to life. And there's enough subtle humor to amuse adults as well as children. Some of the hilarious scenes come directly from Milne's book like one where owl says they must "issue a reward" and Pooh thinks owl is sneezing. I think the film brings something special to the banterin
Growing up I watched Winnie the Pooh all of the time, but my girls didn't really know who he was. I meant to take them to the theater to see the movie, but for some reason never got around to it. We received a review copy in the mail a week or so ago, and sat down to watch it for family night.
Synopsis - In this Walt Disney Studios movie, Eeyore lost his tail and all of the residents of Hundred Acre Wood try to help him find a new one. In the process, Christopher Robin disappears and Owl sends the whole gang on a wild quest to save Christopher Robin from an imaginary monster - The Backson.
Since we watched the movie, my girls have been walking around the house singing, the Backson, the Backson, Who's Afraid of the Backson." My 5 year old even painted a picture of the Backson on her Pumpkin. The movie isn't just for kids though. My husband and I found ourselves laughing just as much as both of our girls. I thought the movie was really funny, and it reminded me of the old Winnie the Pooh books and shows.

When Kik was little, we lived in an apartment where everything was on the same level, and it wasn't a big deal to lay her in their crib for naps. But we bought a multi level house 2 days before we had Bid, and crib nap time became non-existent. It's so much easier to hold a sleeping baby than carry them up 3 flights of stairs!
For Baby Co, I did not want a repeat of when Bid was little. So we got ourselves a play yard that sits in the living room. And since the Bassinet area doubles as a crib, I also needed a new Crib Blanket to cuten things up a bit. We found the perfect thing at Carousel Designs.
Carousel Designs has the cutest selection of
baby bedding!
When I was searching the site checking out
crib bedding I couldn't believe how many styles I absolutely loved. Seeing as I have two girls and am rather girly myself, I couldn't help but look at the
girl crib bedding. I wish I had seen this owl style 5 years ago before I had Kik.
I love the pink and green owls, but for some reason my husband didn't think it was appropriate for our son:) So I started looking at
boy crib bedding instead.
As dinosaurs are manly, and the green color matches the bassinet perfectly, I decided to get the Modern Dinosaurs Crib Blanket.
When shopping online sometimes it's hard to know exactly what you are buying. Will the colors be different? What will the fabric be like, etc? But when I got the blanket I loved it even more than I did in the pictures. The dinosaurs are adorable. The colors are vibrant without being too much. And the blanket is incredibly soft. Love it!
To Buy - The Modern Dinosaurs Crib Blanket retails for $54 and is incredibly durable. It hasn't lost it's softness even though we've had to wash it a time or two.
Another really fun feature of Carousel Designs is that parents can design their own
custom crib bedding with the Nursery Designer Tool. The fabrics from the different collection can be mixed and matched to create something completely unique.
