51. Katinka Bock

Katinka Bock was born in Frankfurt am Main in 1976. She studied in Berlin, Dresden, Paris, and then at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, before coming to Paris in 2007 for a residency lasting several months at the Cité des Arts. Although she was based in Berlin, circumstances have led her to stay on in the French capital. Sculpture has always been at the heart of her studies and interests, though she has also experimented extensively with video, performance art and projects for public spaces. Since coming to Paris, she has ceased to work on collaborative projects, and she finds that the most fertile place for her is not her studio or house, but her mind itself

61. The Art Repair Man

I went to the Pistoletto show at the Serpentine Gallery but found it rather disappointing and banal. In an attempt to take something positive from the show, I took a photo on my iPhone of my head reflected in one of the mirrors and processed it heavily to make this picture.
Apps used: PS Express, PhotoForge, Photostudio and DXP. Click to enlarge.

62. Chicken Nugget Lemon Tooty

By Elijah, age 4

By Eric, much older than 4

The kids over at the Chicken Nugget Lemon Tooty blog have been sharing their illustrations now for 5 years! To celebrate their 5th anniversary, artists have been invited to contribute artwork based on one of the kid's drawings. I decided to create something based on Elijah's (age 4) panda.

Please take the time to visit their blog and tell those kids how awesome they are. And if you would like to create an illustration, they are taking submissions through the end of August.

64. Really Good Grief!

I'm off to California to see family and friends and, if you're in Sonoma County, YOU at the Charles Schulz Museum on Sunday June 28 at 1pm.  But don't be afraid to show up early. The museum is awesome and they'll be showing some of my animated cartoons before the reading and serving free Ice Cream (while supplies last) in honor of Elephant and Piggie's SHOULD I SHARE MY ICE CREAM?  I'll also be

67. The mystery revealed!

I've been working on a metal piece (interrupted by travel) for a while now and finally completed it last week. I'd asked previously to guess what it is.   Who said, "Fire-Pit"? Who said, "Fire-Pit With Multiple Personality Disorder"?   Who said, "Fire-Pit That Can Double as a Grill"? Yup, makin' 'Smores.  The hands on the side of the the Fire Monster hold the marshmallow sticks... Read the rest of this post

68. Coolest Sculpture Ever! Triceracopter by Patricia Renick at UC Langsham Library

I was dropping off proofs for my poster at the UC Library today and came across this amazing sculpture. It is huge! It was done by Patricia Renick and was in a warehouse until recently. Definitely check it out. My puny pictures do not do it justice. Also, there is quite an art collection at the library if you walk around.

Better pictures and the story behind the sculpture: http://www.libraries.uc.edu/triceracopter/index.html

70. Sculpture at Iceland’s airport

En route to a two week trip around Latvia, during a layover at Keflavik airport in Iceland, I experienced Directions, a sculpture installation by Steinunn Thorarinsdottir. Four life casts in aluminum are mounted on columns of basalt, a hard volcanic stone common to this seismic island. The figures face outward, toward the four compass points [...]

72. The Red Elephant is Red

Remember the elephant sculpture that started out as a paper maquette? Well now it's painted. At over three foot long it's 1/3th the size of the proposed final which will have a very swank home. Mo' info as it becomes available. Sculpture and metal are fun.

75. Critique Groups are Empowering

You work alone developing something that has never before existed in the world. You see it from a unique perspective, but what about the rest of the world? Is this newly created entity ready for exposure? Is it balanced and complete? Does it say what you think it says? What you need is a good [...]
