I'm off to England for a week of visits and appearances.  I hope to see you if you're in London or Oxford next week. The blog will close down, but I'm pretty sure The_Pigeon will continue to tweet from time to time. I'll be back at the end of the month, but only for a short time; April is going to be a busy month with appearances across the country.

4. Happy New Year!

Let's start out by wishing you a happy and healthy new year in 2013. The next twelve months will be jam-packed with celebrations and changes including new and exciting projects I can talk about (and those I can't just yet). Much of the year will center around the Pigeon's 10th birthday celebrations; DON'T LET THE PIGEON DRIVE THE BUS! was published in April of 2003 which launched a crazy

5. It's a drag...

If you live in the Pioneer Valley and like ballet and holiday traditions, why not drop by Northampton's Academy of Music for the Pioneer Valley Ballet's annual production of the Nutcracker. The show runs for the Weekend of Dec. 7th-9th.  On Sun. Dec. 9th at the 4:30 pm show I will reprise my role as Mother Ginger for the 3rd time.   Even so, you should still go see the show. The kids are

8. EDWINA THE DINOSAUR WHO DIDN'T KNOW SHE WAS EXTINCT animated film released for School & Libraries

The animated version of EDWINA THE DINOSAUR WHO DIDN'T KNOW SHE WAS EXTINCT has been released for the School and Library market by the fine folks at Weston Woods. Excellently narrated by Cher Willems with myself as Reginald Von Hoobie Doobie, the film is one of my favorites due to the hilarious animation of Pete List and the Esquivel-esque musical stylings of Scotty Huff. The DVD also comes

9. Update & Mo'!

It's been a crazy month of pals, work, appearances, family, & holiday. ALA was great fun. I always enjoy seeing old pals, authors, editors, librarians, and their ilk on the floor.  This years Caldecott & Newbery speeches were excellent and this years Geisel Medalist, Josh Schneider, knocked it out of the park. I was honored to receive my honor for Elephant & Piggie's I BROKE MY TRUNK! and to be

12. NYC COMIX & CARTOONS!

Looks like I'll be making a few last minute appearances in NYC this weekend: This Sunday, April 29th, is the 2nd day of the annual MoCCA festival, an indie comic fest filled with great artists, panels, comix and more.  The fest has moved from the Puck Building to the less claustrophobic Lexington Ave. Armory.  It's a great place to discover new comics and meet your cartooning heroes.

13. Lego Pigeon!

Just in time for the release of THE DUCKLING GETS A COOKIE?! Cartoonist & all around funnyman, Mark Anderson spent his free time making an insane Pigeon with LEGO blocks. Awesome! He's also created a great version of Cul de Sac's Alice.  I wish I'd known before I took over the strip for a week, I could have used it as a model. You can see HOW he did it here. Huzzah & thanks,

16. Knuffle Bunny's final run...

Tomorrow Knuffle Bunny: a Cautionary Musical will begin its final run at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, where the show opened in May of 2010.  After @ 18 months of travel, the show comes home from Dec. 17 - January 8. There have now been 3 casts for this show and it's amazing and interesting to see how different the show becomes as each set of actors brings their own sense to the show.

25. Cul.De.Piggie...

Those of you who love cartooning know that Mr. Richard Thompson is the greatest living cartoonist whose name isn't Ronald Searle.  Mr. Thompson's greatness is thrown into sharp relief when you learn that he does his daily strip, Cul de Sac, while suffering from Parkinson's (which he calls his Slapstick Affliction).
