A couple illos recently done for IndyKids. The first(above) was done for an article that discussed why books should or should not be banned in libraries.
The one below accompanied a student written article discussing The Story of Stuff (http://www.storyofstuff.com/index.html). It raises questions and concerns about our continuous extraction of raw materials from the environment and the toxic nature that all the products we consume and discard have on the atmosphere around us.

Work like you don't need the money.
Dance like no one is watching.
And love like you've never been hurt.
~Mark Twain
One of my favorite quotes!
The illustration you see here is a glimpse of a design that I created for the German magazine DECO. Can you believe it, there's a gift service that sells Yodel lessons in the alps! That's what my illustration was for. I wonder if earplugs come with the package ;-)

Feeling tired, strung out? Exercise is always a good remedy to revive your spirits. Illustration Friday inspired me to this card, by asking for submissions to the word "strings". Strings...strung...strung out - there you go!
I created the illustration for the German magazine LISA. I worked in Corel Painter, using a thick and thin ink pen, coloring areas with the fill tool, then adding a chalk-like brush on rough paper for texture, and airbrush for the cheeks.
Happy Weekend!

"A woman can never be too packed with shopping bags!". Laugh. Well that's kind of absurd, and not very deep. But hey it fit's with today's Illustration Friday theme "packed"! For all fashionistas out there, the stylish fashion blog www.almostpacked.com also inspired me to post this inspiration card for this week's Illustration Friday theme.
I created this illustration for German magazine LISA, to an article that was wondering if shopping is in a woman's genes. How superficial. Of ourse it's not. Right?
Laugh. Have a great, happy weekend everyone!

An editorial spot doodle put together on a rainy Sunday with the help of too much coffee.
And as a heads up, I'm now on twitter.

The phrase, "You made your bed, now lie in it." inspired this illustration for Illustration Friday's theme this week, blanket.
The babies were exceptionally good today so I was able to get an illustration done during naps. I've been sewing on patchwork quilts during my spare time for the little ones, so it was nice to take a break and illustrate a patchwork quilt instead.
Hope everyone is doing well. I'd love to hear any feedback on this...since I've been out of the loop for awhile.
Cheers!

I immediatly get up the challange and enjoyed it a lot. Now if you like you can see the result of my visual cd revies on line at SubVert Magazine.

I've only lived in Alberta for few months now, but I'm getting the impression that all the politicians are concerned with is what goes on in the oil patch. It seems to focus their attention away from other issues at hand.
This is just a spot illustration as an exercise in conceptual ideas.

Last November I was hired by Berkley Publishing to illustrate a book cover for their Prime Crime Mysteries series. It was published this month, October 2007. If you'd like to read about the story authored by Jeffrey Cohen...it's for sale on Amazon.

This was my final version sent to them in January 2007. They made some modifications for their book cover (see above) with my approval. They also asked me to create a logo for their series. The two ticket stubs was their final choice. See the other logo options I created here.
Overall, it was a good experience working with Berkley Publishing!

These are four pages from a comic book short,"Out in the West" I did for Dark Horse Comics. The art is all black and white airbrush. I wanted it to have a Howard Hawks/John Houston feel to it. There are references to a lot of Western stories, some fiction and some fact in it, which prompted one critic to refer to it as a "Western fairy tale". However the title is a tip of the Stetson to "ElPaso" by Marty Robbins. The other four pages include a page that mirrors the one here of the Sherrif that features a outlaw who is more in the spaghetti western mode. If anyone would like to see the entire story, I'll scan the other four pages and post them. When he saw the rough sketches I was doing for this Chris Warner wanted to title it, "Slap leather!"
