3. Need a gift for a reader, writer or illustrator but have a small budget? Give them some TIME

Click the image above for a print-ready PDF or download the "Gift Of Time" gift certificate here.

Looking for a gift for a friend but don't have the cash? Give the gift of TIME.

Depending on your relationship with the recipient, you could offer to do dishes for a week, pick up the kids from school, x number of hours of running, grocery shopping, babysitting and so on. If your friend complains about not having time to read, combine this certificate with a book.

Some suggestions for presenting the gift:

- Slip the certificate into a white envelope and then decorate the envelope with holiday stickers, sparkles, doodles, etc.

- Roll up the certificate and tie a color ribbon around it. Present it as is, or wrapped in gold tissue paper.

- Combine the certificate with themed gift, like with some packaged soothing chamomile or mint tea, chocolates in a mug, or other "it's time to spoil yourself" items.

- Combine the certificate with one of your favorite books.

Enjoy!

6. Cracked Christmas Reindeer Ornament

As promised, here's another one of the products I had the pleasure of working on.  I think the concept behind this is pretty self-explanatory.  In case it's hard to tell from the photo, the reindeer's scarf doubles as a hook/noose!  Poor stressed-out reindeer.

11. A list of children's book illustrators on Etsy

Looking for some kidlit illustrator love for the holiday season gifting? In addition to books, of course, here are some Etsy shops where you can find traditionally published children's book illustrators. If anyone knows of others, feel free to post in the comments section! Please note that I'm only listing shops that currently have items for sale (so have left out my own :-)).

Also see Travis Jonker's Ultimate Children's Literature Illustrator Gift Guide, which includes non-Etsy places where you can buy children's illustrator stuff.

14. Partridge in a Pear Tree Patterns

I painted this watercolour Partridge in a Pear Tree illustration almost a year ago, blogged here. As the festive season is almost upon us once more, I pulled it out of the 'archives' to create some patterns that I'll place on fabric, gift wrap, tea towels, cards, etc ... though it's taking me some time due to the slow internet connection out here in my temporary 'digs'.

Here are the 3 pattern variations:

Partridge-in-a-Pear-Tree-1-by-Floating-Lemons

Partridge-in-a-Pear-Tree-2-by-Floating-Lemons

Partridge-in-a-Pear-Tree-3-by-Floating-Lemons

I then had to figure out a simple coordinating background pattern, and as I love stripes ...

Partridge-in-a-Pear-Tree-1-stripes-by-Floating-Lemons

Partridge-in-a-Pear-Tree-2-stripes-by-Floating-Lemons

Those stripes could be a tad paler, perhaps? Still, a sweet pattern for Christmas nonetheless? I'm also going to take the partridge off and keep just the pear tree as an all-year-round pattern, I've decided. I like it.

I wish all of you a sweet, colourful, delightful week. If you feel like getting some Christmas shopping done early and are curious as to how the Partridge in a Pear Tree illustration looks on some lovely home wares and gifts, I have the non-stripey ones up already over at Society6, so just click HERE to take a peek. Or HERE for the patterned version. I'll be blogging the cards and gift-wrap papers over at my Floating Lemons Treats blog this coming week. Cheers.

16. Christmas Card #2

xmas 12 (angel) front_72-2

A reworking of an image/card from two years ago. This one is on my December promo postcard. Sure is a lot of fun to change this up from time to time and add new angels and animals, etc. My personal favorites are the dog-angel, cat-angel and mouse-angel!

17. Merry Christmas, Everyone!

Hi everybody! This is one of the images I used on my Christmas card this year. It was the outworking of an image I did for Illustration Friday. I can't tell you how many changes this went through to become this, but it was a lot!

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas! Thanks for visiting our IFK site and blog!

18. Merry Christmas!

xmas-card12_dogintree_72

This is the final iteration of a piece I did for Illustration Friday a few weeks back, using the word-prompt “tree”. It went from a boy and dog in a tree, kids in a tree, SNOWmen in a tree, and now back to the first idea. And when I thought THAT was done, I added the boxes, bulbs, and ribbons. I think it’s finished. I have not had the urge to fix or change anything. A good sign! And now I’m using it for one of my Christmas cards this year. Merry Christmas!

20. Sweet Squares

I'm joining my friend, Diandra, in her Sweet Squares project.
She was inspired by Melissa Sweet at the LA SCBWI conference.
Since I have a major art crush on Melissa, I'm joining in. It was so difficult!
She explains it here.

To make me feel better, I'm adding this sketch from the weekend.

23. Ho Ho Hee

click to embiggen

This is a ridiculous time of year isn't it! Why does xmas have to go for the whole of December do you think? I actually do enjoy the xmas period - people are generally much happier and I love the summer time (here in Australia!) and the sound of cicadas drowning out every other sound, but geez it's a busy time of year. There never seems to be enough time to get everything done. It's been very busy for me for different reasons as I have been working some (ill advised) hours in the studio on my book. It's going well (I say while I'm in a positive frame of mind) but, again, I wish I had more time.

Anyway, this is just a quick post to say that I wish everyone a really happy xmas and hope that you all travel safely to all your xmasy destinations. I'm going to be out of the studio for a bit (I'm really looking forward to going outside - I heard a bird yesterday and it sounded so nice) and will be back in the new year. I'll leave you with another little peek from a larger illustration of Rosie riding the Brooklyn Bridge. See you soon. GG x

PS. And check out my new Facebook site (http://www.facebook.com/GusGordonbooks) as I have experimenting with social media - it's crazy!
