I think all cartoonists have a few books in their collections that date back to their youth and hold particularly strong sentimental value. Jim Sizemore offers up a short personal essay about one such book, the 17th edition of Speedball Text Book: Lettering Poster Design for Pen or Brush, by Ross F. George, published by the C. Howard Hunt Pen Company in 1956. The post is accompanied by several scans of the book’s illustrated pages.
I had this exact book! I distinctly remember this very page!
I remember all the books I used to draw and looked over obsessively, good stuff!
So many great old books inspired me…. Damn, it looks like we all get old!
my copy of this is lost somewhere in my parents’ attic and it is KILLING. ME. that i can’t find it. i go on an epic search every time i visit, to no avail.
Is this book still produced? I do see a lot of editions listed as used on Amazon, some of them fairly cheap.
