Every year on or around March 2nd, thousands of Pi Beta Phi members take time to advance literacy in their communities through the annual Fraternity Day of Service. And this year is no exception! This week, Pi Beta Phi chapters and clubs across North America use their creativity and passion for literacy to raise funds and organize service projects to provide new books to children in need in their communities.
Working together with First Book, Pi Beta Phi has embarked on their third annual “Make Your Mark for Literacy” Fraternity Day of Service campaign. Pi Phi members have been hard at work decorating individual bookplates that will be placed in thousands of new books. For every bookplate decorated, one child will receive a brand-new book from First Book, toward the goal of donating 50,000 books.
Click on the bookplate image to view a slideshow of the unique bookplates Pi Phi members have created.

Since 2004, First Book has been a charitable partner of The Literacy Site, a “click to give” site that donates revenues from online advertising to help provide new books for children in need.
The Literacy Site offers four several easy, free ways to help provide more books to kids in need:
- Click every day. Did you know you can click once a day, every day at The Literacy Site? That’s 365 chances each year to help a child have a book of his or her own.
- Send a free e-card. Use The Literacy Site’s free e-cards to tell everyone you know — friends, family, colleagues — about the site. The more people who click every day, the more books we can distribute to children in need.
- Sign up for The Literacy Site’s free e-newsletter. The Literacy Site’s e-newsletter keeps you in the know about ways to help children in need get free books. Plus, if you are a brand new registrant at the GreaterGood Network (owners and operators of The Literacy Site), they will give additional funding toward free books for children in need.
- Sign up for the free click reminder service. The Literacy Site will send you a free e-mail as often as you like to help you remember to click — you let them know how often you need a reminder and they’ll take care of it! Plus, if you are a brand new registrant at the GreaterGood Network (owners and operators of The Literacy Site), they will give additional funding toward free books for children in need.
