1. Colourful Beads

37Beads-moleskine

Decided to start drawing in a new moleskine ... I'd forgotten how much I like the surface of the paper for my colored pencils, it's so lovely and smooth.

I'd been to the markets in Aix-en-Provence and discovered a stall that sold hundreds of glorious beads in all shapes and colours. HAD to buy some ... and then of course I HAD to draw them, so here's a selection. They're like glittering glowing pieces of candy in real life, quite delicious --

Once I'd finished the sketch I scanned them in, cleaned them up, added a bit of a shadow in photoshop and here's the cleaner, finished product ready to be placed on cards online:

And finally, here's another play on my previous text design, done especially for Clara!

2. UPDATE ON HOMER AND OTHER LOVELY THINGS

Good Afternoon:

Just thought it would be nice to post an update on Homerella. She's still with us and seems to be coming along a bit. I say this carefully, as I've seen this happen before. She's taking these painfully odorous and very large Glucosamine pills. They do seem to loosen her stiff joints a bit, but they appear to upset her tummy some as well. A trade-off of evils, I suppose...

So, we watch and hope for the best, knowing full well that she's 13 and has had a fabulous life.

While rummaging through one of my boxes of vintage photos over the weekend, I found a small box of my all time treasureful photos. I'd like to share one with you. It fascinates me and spooks me all at once. I think the photo calls to be framed and placed on the wall of my new studio. Isn't it a fabulous old photo? It's dated October of 1899.

The Mirrored Soul

I am going to hold dear to this photo. I simply can't let it go, so I won't be listing this in my Vintage Photo Shop

I borrowed a few moments to browse through my backyard this morning. I found Springtime living there....

Plum Blossoms

Nectarine Blossoms

Soon, these abundant and sweetly perfumed blossoms will provide goodies for our sweet tooth! Nectarine cobbler and plum tarts anyone?

Until Next Time:

3. Bye bye Nestle Prize

Well that's a shame! The Guardian reports on the demise of the Nestle Book Prize. I've read the article a couple of times now and it still rings hollow. Booktrust will no longer promote the prize because it's putting its efforts into book distribution? Nestle will no longer sponsor it because it is focusing on nutrition and healthy eating plans? Nestle's reputation was tarnished because it promoted powdered milk in developing countries? Powdered milk is promoted in developed countries, too. This prize has given school kids in the UK a voice in the world of Children's Literature (I remember it well from my time there.) A bit of a waste, if you ask me.
