1. Going Wild With Artist Terry Jackson

So far we’ve had the pleasure of highlighting some really talented wildlife artists on Illustration Pages. Today we’re adding another gifted artist to the roster, Terry Jackson.  Terry’s painstakingly realistic depictions of animals are out of this world. The level of detail she captures with a pencil is light years beyond what could ever be captured by photography. This is true with many artists like Terry. Knowing that the human hand creates such beauty on paper adds an element to the artwork that can never be matched by a camera, which merely arranges pixels into a recognizable subject. No matter how realistic Terry draws something, it’s still her interpretation of realty. And that, in addition to how real her subjects look, is what makes her art so unique and special.

You might look at Terry’s jaw dropping, graphite drawings and wonder, “How does she achieve such realism. What kinds of techniques yield such amazing results? How did she learn to do that?” All the beauty in Terry’s drawings does not lie solely within their realism. Her drawings contain emotion. Terry’s artwork captures a moment in time, a mother cuddling her young, a cat rolling in the grass, two massive elephants playing. These are seconds in time that have taken hours of intense patience and concentration to create by an artist with a deep connection to the animals she is drawing.

2. Werewolf Tales for Older Teens

Although my werewolf tales are adult romance novels, older teens are enjoying them. In the second book, Destiny of the Wolf, I have a group of werewolf teens who get into trouble and one who has to deal with teen pregnacy. And in the fifth book, Seduction of the Wolf, another set of werewolf teens, including one teen heartthrob, who create problems, due out in April 2010.

My stories are based more on real wolves than a fantasy werewolf tale, so much so that reviewers say:

“Centers on pack problems in a refreshingly straightforward
way. The characters are well drawn and believable, which makes the contemporary plotline of love and life among the lupus garou seem, well, realistic.”—The Romantic Times

Heart of the Wolf~~

"Her wolf world feels at once palpable and even plausible." Publishers Weekly's Best Books of the Year

And in the fall of 2010, another yet to be titled werewolf tale has some teens also. Not only do the teens have the typical human hormonal problems, but as werewolves, they have to deal with the wolf side of their psyche.

To Tempt the Wolf, 3rd book in the series has a Sep 1 release date. No teens in this one, but hey, they're still fun to read! :)

3. Blogs, Wikis, MySpace, and More

Blogs, Wikis, MySpace, and More: Everything you want to know about using 2.0 but were afraid to ask. (Burrows, Terry)

Burrows gives an excellent beginners guide to the World Wide Web. The book is separated by these subject areas: Blogging, Bookmarks and Tagging, Communications, Design, e-commerce, Education and Knowledge, Games and Virtual Worlds, Hosting, Mapping, Music, News, Peer-to-Peer Sharing, Personal Management Tools, and Photographs and Videos.  Each chapter gives a brief history of the topic, detailed instructions on how to use site features, and a listing of additional websites.

However some of the sites in the Education and Knowledge section were not reference related and were mostly brainstorming sites. And some of the sites were obsolete like Findroy.com.  I would have liked to see more useful websites like the Internet Library, Bartleby.com, or Census bureau listed in the reference section.
