Folksy drawings illustrate an updated classic nursery rhyme as a boy ventures through his farm and discovers where wool, honey, milk, eggs, and down come from. Click here to read my full review.

I don't really know why I am feeling so down today.
- Maybe its b/c I'm frustrated with this crazy publishing world
- Maybe its b/c of all the cuts the cuts at Harper Collins
- Maybe its because I will miss Bowen Press
- Maybe its b/c I watched Pursuit of Happyness
- Maybe its b/c my vertigo is back
- Maybe its b/c I feel like I am moving through quick sand with my writing
- Maybe its b/c of the economy
- Maybe its b/c I saw Caylee Grandpa crying on TV
- Maybe its b/c I watched a lady beg Obama for help b/c she was homeless
- Maybe its b/c I don't understand how a Lady could want 8 more kids when she is not taking care of the first 6.
- Maybe its b/c Jeremy Lusk (American motocross racer) died tragically after a jump gone wrong at the age of 24.
- Maybe its b/c stamps are going up again 2 cents.
- Maybe its b/c of the tragic fires in Australia.
- Maybe its b/c my dog is getting old.
- Maybe its b/c I watched people get cut on American Idol and their dream crushed.
- Maybe its b/c of the guy who died in jail days before they reversed his sentence and declared him innocent.
- Maybe its b/c Im sick and watching too much depressing TV.
- Maybe I'm just sapped and am tired of fighting so hard for something that seems impossible.
- Maybe its b/c I hurt when others hurt.
- Maybe its just b/c sometimes things dont seem to get better in this crazy world.
- Maybe its b/c I want so much for an agent/editor to believe in me and my writing.
- Maybe its b/c I'm obsessing.
- Maybe its just me.
- Maybe its just in the air.
- Maybe it's just today.
In any case, all I can do is be grateful, keep moving forward, and try to look on the Bright Side of Life.
Ok I'm done whining. I need a pick-me-up. (If I felt better, a good dirty martini might do the trick :)
Instead, I remembered this....
WARNING: Slightly Inappropriate material ahead!
(PS: This song is NOT a religious statement.)
(PSS: Go back now especially if you don't like Monty Python's or the movie Life of Brian)
(PSSS: Last chance to bail on this post!)
OK I feel better now :)
Thanks.

I'm just starting the coloring stage of my eight page submission to zudacomics.com. I finished up all of the inking over the last couple of days in between other work. I actually think I've come up with a pretty good little story. The style of art I'm doing is a bit unconventional, but I think interesting. Maybe. Maybe not. Anyway, here's a scan of one of the inked pages. Judge for yourself.

The last couple weeks have been EXTREMELY hectic as I've had a surprising amount of product design work coming in, as well as a few other time intensive things. I'm expecting stuff to die down a bit over the next couple of weeks, which is good because I can use the extra time to get some work done on some other projects I have going. I'm actually working on a submission to zuda comics believe it or not (I'll post some scans on Friday maybe) and hopefully I can get some of that done this week.
This week I put threw up a couple zombie t-shirt designs I kind of did on a whim over at redbubble.com and I've gotten a surprising response.
Someone (who apparently has even less sense in style than I do) even bought the hippie one.
Anyway, I already have three more in the sketch phase and I think all three of them completely blow away the two I've done so far.
I'm digging drawing dead people.
Maybe a job in the morgue is in my future?

An oil painting I finished not long ago - reflecting some of the joys of a summer day. I know this isn't on the topic, but I understand it's ok to upload other work, too. Hope so.
Oh, argh. I saw the news about Bowen Press last night. I jumped on their blog, and it's a funny post about Comic-Con...and then I scrolled through their books, including a 2k9 author...and I just ached for them. It feels like the little press that could, but now it can't because of the economy. It doesn't feel like it was even given a fair shot.
And I had no idea that stamps were going up again!!
Argh.
I'm going to have to go watch more Monty Python now...
Don't watch the news! I stopped half a lifetime ago and I have never missed it once. Granted, I'm the dumbest chick at the cocktail party...
But I have a drink in my hand, so who cares?
No. I'm kidding. That's so shallow :-) But I seriously haven't watched the news or read a newspaper in decades.
and you WILL succeed! You WILL! I believe in you!
Oh, what a funny video. (And ironic, because ON THE BRIGHT SIDE is your title!)
Katie's right. STAY AWAY from the news!
I stay away from the news unless there is something very specific I want to read about. Most of the time it seems unreliable and/or ridiculous anyways.
It seems like you'd do a lot less hurting if you gave it up, anyway.
Don't give up on the dream though Shelli!
Hope your day gets brighter.
I have been feeling exactly the same way. Now I know why!!
And don't let anyone tell you Pursuit of Happyness is uplifting. Darn near most depressing thing I've ever seen.
Like Katie, I stopped watching news. At least, mostly. I felt like it was taking me down a very dark path... and the knowledge it gave me wasn't helping me make things better.
Hope you are feeling more up soon!
Hey Beth - you will love Monty :)
Corey - good catch - I dont think I thought about the song vs my book. :)

Thx Katie :) Right back at yah
Heidi 0 i think the last 5 min lifted my spirits but I cried for like 2.5 hrs
Thx Casey - i guess that what I get for trying to be educated. I usually odnt watch it but ive been sick.
I'm sorry to hear that you have been down. Those are many valid reasons to be down :-/
I think watching American Idol is particularly difficult for serious writers. We identify with the contestants too much.
I'm right there with you on fighting so hard for something that seems impossible and wanting an editor or agent to believe in me. Sometimes it makes it really hard to read blogs and books on writing. All it does is make you compare yourself to others and question the things you thought you had figured out.
Man, I wish I would have thought of watching Monty Python after The Pursuit of Happyness. Fabulous movie, but MAN was it painfully depressing.
My husband loves The Life of Brian! LOVES this song and used to sing it to our babies as their lullaby.
Saw the play in NYC (Meaning of Life?) Forget what they named the play. Hilarious!
I think when i tell people that i don't watch a lot of TV they think i'm just being "crunchy granola" mom or sanctimonious or something. But the truth is, it affects me SO deeply, I learned that I have to protect myself from it. Same thing with the news. Do I wish i were the type of person that let that stuff roll off my back? Sometimes. But then, I guess that's what makes me a writer. Also, that video was HYSTERICAL. Priceless. Vicky Shecter
I love the title of your post. You crack me up.
