I’m struggling today to get on task concerning certain stuff and I decided a creative diversion to mentally/emotionally refuel was in order. So I took the IF prompt to task and created 2 more. The Easter Bunny thing is the focal point again, but in a different style.
And then back in the cartoon style:

Newcomer Krista Russell desires to expose children and young adults to the historical realities of the slave trade and the abolitionist movement. She skillfully weaves historical truths into her story, and the result pulls the reader deep into the not-so-distant past.

These little digital doodles of mine are nothing particulary special as far as Art (with a capital A) is concerned, I know. They aren't meant to be. They are bits of colourful fun that pop into my mind throughout the day, are quickly sketched down into my book with marker pens, scanned in, and then digitally painted over whenever I have the time to do so.
I like them. They're cheerful and bright ... and perhaps they're trying to tell me that somewhere deep within this rather cynical husk there's still, rather well-hidden perhaps, a sense of uncomplicated joy left.
Above is Colored Pencils and below is a Red Coffee Cupcake. Enjoy.

I polished off the cover for Albert at the Zoo early last week, and I'm pretty pleased with the results. It's a nice looking cover. I think it relates to the first book well.
This edition is going to have full color interiors, so I've got a lot of work ahead of me and a very little window in which to do it.
Ain't it always the case?

Just recently finished up this logo for a company. Overall, I think it came out looking pretty good, and I thought I'd share.
No real news to report beyond that. A lot of the same really.
Work, sleep, wife, work, sleep, wife, work, sleep, wife, etc.
It's painfully boring being me.

I was finally able to finish this one up last week. Overall, I don't hate it. Is it the best in the series? Naw. Is it the worst, Naw. It's decent, and decent is good enough for me at the moment.
It was sort of an uneventful weekend for me. The wife and I didn't really do much. I've had to take a bit of a break from writing the book in order to get some other stuff done, but hopefully I'll be able to get back to it sometime this week. I'm at a point (somewhere in the middle of the story) that has me a bit stumped. I know how the story is going to end, but I've written myself into a bit of a corner and I'm having trouble getting over a hump. I had hoped that taking some time away from it would help me sort things out in my head, but it really hasn't worked.
Not exactly the most well thought out plan, I know.
I saw a really good movie called "Son of Rambow" over the weekend. A really sweet little story, well directed, funny, had everything really. It didn't change my life or anything, but without a doubt it was a good flick.

WOW! Last week was about as busy a week as I've had in a long time, and the really weird thing about it is that I didn't do a single piece of illustration or design work. Not one!
This week is my wife's first back at school and it's a new school to boot. Because of that I spent all of last week moving everything from her old classroom that we had plopped down into storage, out of storage and into her new room...by myself.
You may not think that sounds like a whole heck of a lot, but this woman has collected a LOT of books in her twelve years of teaching and a lot of books mean a lot of heavy boxes. We actually had to rent a 16 foot U-Haul in order to move all this stuff.
After the moving was done I spent a good eight hours a day, every day, moving desks, moving tables, organizing papers, papering her walls, hanging stuff on those walls, creating more stuff to be hung on those walls, then hanging that created stuff up!
Toss in the fact that the air conditioning wasn't working because the school was still being built, and it was well over 100 outside and you've got a recipe for a tired and very stinky me.
Anyway, all is well that ends well I suppose, and her first day back went decently so I guess it was worth it.
She's going to owe me though...oh yes, she surly is...
Hopefully I can find some time this week to put the kibosh on this darn monster piece.

It's going to be a very busy Wednesday for me. I've got a lot of work to do and will most likely spend the vast majority of my day hunched over my drawing table in my dark studio with the blinds drawn. I won't take a shower until well after lunch which will make my hair slimy, and my skin greasy, and my teeth still covered with that pasty morning tooth film for most of the day.
That's right...I'm a bridge troll.
I'd tell you to "ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS THREE" before you continue reading, but I'm much to busy to come up with three questions, so instead I'll just wave you through.
The above sketch is yet another rough from the very same recent project the last rough was produced for.

Since I'm going to be gone for pretty much the whole of this week, I thought I would keep things short and sweet.
Here's a logo I recently did for someone.
There, I'm done.
Okay, so maybe it wasn't that sweet, but you can't argue the short part.

I was able to put the ol' kibosh on this piece in just a couple of days. It's strange how one piece can take me hour upon hour to finish off, while another (with pretty much the same amount of work) can get finished in two days.
Usually getting paid makes me speed things up a bit, but I didn't earn a single dollar for this one, so who knows?

I wasn't able to get a whole heck of a lot done on this illustration over the past week. Too much other stuff to do. I did manage to find some time to throw down a couple really basic colors though. I'm thinking it's going to look decent when finished. I'm going with some nice cool grays for the train which should look good.
That's about it.
As the kids would say, I'm outy.

Here's a page from my zudacomics.com submission inked and colored.
I admit it...I'm not nuts about computer coloring. (Maybe it's because I'm not that good at it). Sometimes it just feels like a chore to me. (Once again, maybe that's because I'm not that good at it).
I'm about halfway through coloring the eight pages in my submission but I'm having trouble finding time getting it done with so much other work going on right now and with my wife on spring break and requiring a good deal of my attention. MY goal is to knuckle up and get it done this week.
Is that likely?
No.
It's nice to dream though.

I'm just starting the coloring stage of my eight page submission to zudacomics.com. I finished up all of the inking over the last couple of days in between other work. I actually think I've come up with a pretty good little story. The style of art I'm doing is a bit unconventional, but I think interesting. Maybe. Maybe not. Anyway, here's a scan of one of the inked pages. Judge for yourself.

I was able to get a little work done on the above monster piece over the last couple days, though it required me to get little to no sleep in order to do it.
Sleep is a luxury anyway, right?
Right?
Or, wait, no...I'm thinking of an expensive car.
Silly me.

Wow, nice work. Color me impressed.
I think the logo looks nice. And boring's not always a bad thing. =)
HA! Color me impressed! You're a riot Alicia!
Groan. ;)
Steve!
Thank you much Chrissy! And no, boring is without a doubt not always a boring thing - it can't be - because if it were I would have lived the absolute worst life in the history of the universe. ;)
