1. Up On The Lowbrow With Artist Brian Gray

The Artwork of Brian Gray

As a young artist Brian Gray had been influenced by graffiti art, vintage comic books, old school hand drawn advertising, MAD Magazine, and the Saturday morning cartoons of the 80’s. As his artwork developed Brian became heavily influenced by the “lowbrow” art movement and the underground art scene that dominates so much of Los Angeles and the West Coast scene in general. He began to follow several artists he read about in various art magazines and on numerous art blogs. Artists such as Joe Ledbetter, Gary Baseman, Tim Biskup, Greg "Craola" Simkins, David Hovarth, and Buff Monster, are some of the artists that have made a lasting impression on Brian over recent years. Brian best describes his art as, “fun, imaginative, and whimsical but, with a slight touch of a hidden darkness.”

2. Medusa and Other Artistic Interpretations of Teresa Murphy

The artwork of Teresa Murphy

When imagination is coupled with a skilled hand you get the kind of artwork that Teresa Murphy creates. There are may things that will blow your mind about Teresa's art, two of them are, that it is highly imaginative and very detailed. It was difficult to choose which of her artwork to highlight in this post and when you visit Teresa's website you'll see why. At first glance you might think Teresa's art is about darkness because of the numerous depictions of skulls, but upon further investigation you'll realize her work is filled with fantasy, symbolism and perhaps truth and sadness. You must, however, investigate it for yourself to come away with your own interpretation - ah the beauty of art.

15. There's Always Time For Milk and Cookies With Artist Tali Gal-on

Meet illustrator, designer and animator Tali Gal-on. Tali studied animation at the Victorian College of the Arts in her hometown of Melbourne. The film is about a young girl who encounters hostile territory when she enters a guitar shop for the first time and collides with the store owner, a self-obsessed aging rocker. 19. Gotta Get Some Slackart - Michael Slack Art

Would you like to have some Friday fun? Enter the wacky world of Michael Slack. Now here’s a guy that knows how to dream up some crazy characters and outlandish scenes. If Michael’s artwork came to life would you bust a gut laughing or head for the hills screaming?

Michael’s world is fantastically silly and imaginative. He clearly loves what he does and so do we. Wouldn’t it be great to have a Michael Slack creation as an Illustration Pages mascot? Hint – Hint – Wink – Wink …

Here’s something that will surely catch your eye - one of the books Michael has illustrated called, The Flim-Flam Fairies. It’s about some gross, oddball fairies, like the Fart Fairy, Snot Fairy, and Dirty Underwear Fairy that try to over throw the Tooth Fairy to weasel in on her corner of the “under-the-pillow” market. Michael sure is one heck of a lucky guy to be working on such fun projects. He’s also clearly one heck of a talented guy too.

Michael’s art inhabits the canvas as well as the digital world. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Painting from the San Francisco Art Institute. He allows himself time to spend on his personal drawings and paintings,

20. Travis Millard - Welcome to Fudge Factory Comics

How would you like to step inside the mind of artist Travis Millard? You might not come out the same on the other side. These are some wild illustrations he’s conjuring up. Travis waves his freak flag high and let’s his imagination run loose like a madman with the keys to the asylum. And wouldn’t you agree that’s what an artist should do? Fearless - no holds barred - let it go from the brain to the paper – that’s the pure essence of the creative spirit. Why be afraid to put down on paper or canvas what it is that you want to put down? Artists like Travis Millard are saying to hell with conventional thinking – my way is much more fun.

His work looks like it might have some Robert Crumb or a little bit of S. Clay Wilson influence to it. Heck, everyone has been influenced by someone. Still Travis Millard is definitely original in his own right. Eye gouging, hand biting with some face melding make out sessions – yeah this guy certainly isn’t having any problems creating unique pieces of art.

21. Jeffrey Richter Fine Art on Etsy – Believe the Unbelievable

It's hard to believe what some artists can create using charcoal, ink and graphite. Jeffrey Richter is one such artist. His meticulously detailed images are seductive and haunting, thought provoking and full of depth. Love and war, strength, life and death, conflict and the relationship between man and machine, this is the art of Jeffrey Richter communicated with passion and contemplation. Beyond his impressive skill as a draftsman, Jeffrey captivates his viewers with the stories he tells about each piece and the stories his viewers can’t help but imagine about them on their own.
