Fever Crumb was one of the seven books shortlisted for the Cybil's finalists in the Fanstasy & Science Fiction (Middle Grade) category. The Roar by British author Emma Clayton is so many amazing things at once and has stirred up such visceral feelings in me that I hope I can do it justice here. What a fantastic review! I did not make the connection to His Dark Materials, but you are totally right. I think it's been too long since I read those - if I didn't have a giant stack of YA staring balefully at me, I would take some time to enjoy them again.<br /><br />:paula
Thanks for the kind words! I know exactly how you feel about returning to the His Dark Materials trilogy... If you get the chance, listen to the audio. It is a production with a full cast of voice actors and Philip Pullman as narrator!
Sounds like a really good read! Hope the library gets it for me soon. I've also requested <i>Going Bovine</i> after seeing it in your awards summary sheerly based on the title and cover. Have you read it yet?
I haven't read "Going Bovine," but I have read 2/3 of Libba Bray's trilogy set in Victorian England. "Bovine" sounds good, but two people (one of whom is a coworker who is also a middle school librarian, another who is an aspiring writer of teen books) both told me they quit it by the middle of the book. If it was a book I might review I would give it a try
