I came to Henry Moore later in life. In the last couple of years, actually, I'm pretty sure it was on my first ever trip out with the Urban Sketchers to the YSP. Anyway, wherever whenever, now I'm a big fan.
It's just SO drawable.
Earlier this month, when I had a grip on #Inktober - before it ran off in all directions - and I was doing an ink drawing a day, I came across my Moleskine watercolour sketchbook.
It hadn't been used much at all. In fact I hadn't seen it for years. But when I opened it I found this wash (above). Now, I have no idea what I was thinking way back then when I put it on the page, but just looking at it with all that time between us, I could only see one thing. You're thinking the same, right?? You can see it too, yeah?
Yes, exactly.
So I came up with my very own Henry Moore reclining nude. An Andrea Joseph inspired by Henry Moore for day nine of #inktober
Well, another couple of weeks have passed and I am still finding it difficult to pick up a pen and draw. I made this little one some time back, in my
mini Moleskine sketchbook, at
Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Tomorrow my sketch crawl group return to the park, for lots of sketching goodness, but I'll be working the day job so I won't even have a sketchcrawl to kick start some drawing. It's okay though. As frustrating as these periods are, I know it will pass. It will, it will, it WILL pass.
Huge thanks for all your kind and supportive messages in response to my last couple of posts. I'll have some drawings to share soon.
The chances are, if you have been to the beautiful
Yorkshire Sculpture Park then you will have seen Henry Moore's Draped Seated Woman. From the main entrance, just as the park opens up to you, she can be found looking out over the lake. She sits on the hill watching over the park. Keeping her eye on things. Surrounded by her flock.
If you sit for a while, maybe to draw or something, you'll hear the same old comments, over and over again, from those who come to look at her; stuff about 'her head being too small' and her 'being all out of proportion'. I want to tell them to take a look at themselves, they ain't exactly in proportion either. But I don't. I keep my head down. Keep drawing.
And, besides, she doesn't need me to stick up for her. She doesn't care what they have to say. She's heard it all before. Over and over again. No, she's not interested. Why would she be when she has this view to look at?
This is a lovely drawing. It seems like there were a few of us who couldn't sketch on Saturday.
Yes it WILL pass and you'll soon be back to your old productivity.
Why not try the 15min thing in the meantime? Try to draw for 15minutes sketch your feet, cup of tea, something. If after 15mins you've had enough then stop. You may find you continue longer. Sometimes helps.
This is a very nice sketch. Drawing block is always the worst, but I saw your ideas for the graphic novel! I hope you get a reply soon, I am sure that will motivate you to no end! :)
Thanks, guys.
Sue, yes, I always miss those days soo much. i just love catching up with everyone and i always come home with a handful of drawings.
Afk, it is the worse. But I picked up my pens yesterday and feel I'm pulling through!
Cheers.
