And I know a lot of you are reading that list and thinking, "BUT NONE OF THOSE ARE NEAR WHERE I LIVE!" I know. I'm sorry. I wish I could teleport and visit everyone. But alas, I have yet to manifest that ability. I also don't get to choose where my publisher sends me.

But if I'm not coming to see you--remember, you can get the same swaggish goodies I give out at events through the pre-order giveaway, which I will be posting all the details on next week! (Not sure which day yet--but all pre-orders count, so order anytime!)

And if you do live near my events--woo hoo, I hope you can make it to the signings! I would love to meet you!

I tend to get a lot of questions about events, so here's a few other pieces of info:
  • Every store has their own policy on bringing books from home to be signed at events, and I always defer to their wishes. If they're cool with it, I'm happy to sign any of my books that you bring. But if they don't allow that, then I can't sign them either. If you're worried, I'd call the store ahead of time and ask what their rules are. And even if they do allow you to bring books from home, it's always nice to buy *something* at the event as a way of thanking the store for hosting me. It doesn't have to be one of my books. Just something to support the store, since they go to a lot of effort to organize the event for me.
  • Yes, I'm happy to let you take a picture with me.
  • As far as I know, the only store doing wristbands is the B&N in Montclair, hosting the launch party. But if you're worried, you can always call the store to double check.
  • I'll be giving out the same swaggish goodies that will be part of the pre-order giveaway to everyone who comes to my events. So if you're coming to the event, you don't need to take part in the pre-order giveaway.
If I missed something, you're welcome to ask questions in the comments. Just make sure you ask the question on the actual blog post on my website and not on any of the places this blog feeds out to (like goodreads) because that's the only place I respond to them.

That's all for now--hope everyone has a great weekend. And check back next week for the Pre-Order giveaway!

2. LODESTAR Official Launch Party Details

Here we go again, guys.

We're about five weeks away from LODESTAR launching into the world.

*MUPPET FLAILING*

And like always, I have TONS of updates coming up, including the pre-order swag giveaway details and my final tour dates and locations. (you can actually find most of the tour info already on my events page if you're curious, but I'm still waiting on a couple of pieces of info so I'm waiting until I have EVERYTHING until I make an official post.)

I've also be sharing character art on social media--and have teasers coming up next month--so if you aren't following me on Instagram, you might wanna click HERE so you don't miss out)

And for those of you in SoCal (or thinking of visiting SoCal in November), here's the info for the official Launch Party:

And in case that graphic isn't loading for some reason, here are the details again in plain text:

Tuesday, 11/1/16
7:00 pm
Barnes &Noble Montclair Plaza
5183 Montclair Plaza Ln.
Montclair, CA 91763

And this year we're doing things a *little* differently. Since the signing line can get CRAZY long, we'll be using wristbands to make it easier for you guys. Don't worry--walk-ins the day of the event are still totally welcome. But if you want to make sure they don't run out of books and you'd like a guaranteed spot toward the front of the signing line, you can call (909)399-1966 and reserve your wristband for the event. Think of it as a Disneyland FastPass--only even more magical*

*okay, it's probably NOT more magical than Disneyland--can we call it a close second?

Wristbands will be organized into groups, so the sooner you call and reserve yours, the closer you'll be to the front of the line. Even better--it'll give us a better idea of how many cupcakes to bring (since we always seem to run out within minutes o.0) And the cupcakes this year are going to be SO GOOD--more on that later--so we want to make sure we have enough.

And as if free cupcakes aren't awesome enough, everyone who comes to the launch party and buys a copy of LODESTAR will get one of these shiny Verdi on Duty buttons (in addition to all the other swaggish goodies you'll see me talking about for the pre-order giveaway)

For those who don't live in SoCal or can't come to the launch, there will be a few other chances to get one of these buttons, but getting a wristband for the Launch Party guarantees you'll get one that night! (and those without wristbands at the launch party will most likely get one too--but the only way to guarantee it is to get the wristband, so seriously, call ahead and reserve yours!)

If you have any questions, feel free to ask away in the comments section below. Otherwise mark those calendars for 11/1/16.

And ....  that's it for now. But like I said--stay tuned. Soooooooooooooooooo many more exciting things are coming up over the next few weeks.

3. MMGM Links (11/2/15)

Greetings from Portland!

Yep--believe it or not, I'm already on tour. So if you haven't checked my events page yet, here's where you can find me over the next couple of weeks:

Also, today is the LAST DAY to get your free swag through the NEVERSEEN pre-order giveaway. It ends tonight at 11:59pm (PT)  so if you haven't taken advantage yet, click HERE. (and then the swag packs will go in the mail as soon as I'm home from tour to assemble them)

And um, tomorrow? NEVER SEEN OFFICIALLY LAUNCHES INTO THE WORLD (though I know some of you lucky ducks found early copies in your stores). It's my twistiest book yet, so I really hope you enjoy.

Okay--on to the MMGM links! (And sorry if I missed you. I have an EARLY day tomorrow so I'm putting this post together earlier than normal. Doing my best to fit in ALL THE THINGS whilst on the road--and on deadline)
- Mark Baker is featuring ... *meep* the KEEPER OF THE LOST CITIES series! (I always feel so shameless when I link reviews of my own books... But, there you go.) Click HERE to see what he thought.
- Patricia Tilton joins the MMGM fun with a feature on CONNECTING THE DOTS. Click HERE to welcome her to the group!
- Carl at Boys Rule Boys Read is raving about BUNNICULA. Click HERE for his feature.
- Greg Pattridge is spotlighting EPIC ZERO. Click HERE to read his thoughts.
- Sally's Bookshelf is cheering for LAST-BUT-NOT-LEAST LOLA AND THE CUPCAKE QUEENS. Click HERE to find her review.
- Kim Aippersbach has two features: THE NEST and CLOVER'S LUCK. Click HERE to see why.
- Rosi Hollinbeck is reviewing--and GIVING AWAY--LINCOLN'S SPYMASTER: ALLEN PINKERTON, AMERICA'S FIRST PRIVATE EYE. Click HERE for details.
- Dorine White is gushing about THE TURTLE TWINS AND THE CREATURE FROM JEKYLL ISLAND. Click HERE to see why.
- The Mundie Moms are always huge supporters of middle grade. Click HERE for their Mundie Kids site.
- Karen Yingling also always has some awesome MMGM recommendations for you. Click HERE to which ones she picked this time!
- Joanne Fritz always has an MMGM for you. Click HERE to see what she's talking about this week.

If you would like to join in the MMGM fun, all you have to do is blog about a middle grade book you love on a Monday (contests, author interviews and whatnot also count--but are most definitely not required) and email me the title of the book you're featuring and a link to your blog at SWMessenger (at) hotmail (dot) com. (Make sure you put MMGM or Marvelous Middle Grade Monday in the subject line so it gets sorted accurately--and please don't forget to say what book you're featuring) You MUST email me your link by Sunday evening in order to be included in the list of links for the coming Monday. (usually before 11pm PST is safe--but if I'm traveling it can vary. When in doubt, send early!) (Also make sure the post you send me is a new post, not one from earlier in the week. I try to keep the content fresh)

If you miss the cutoff, you are welcome to add your link in the comments on this post so people can find you, but I will not have time to update the post. Same goes for typos/errors on my part. I do my best to build the links correctly, but sometimes deadline-brain gets the best of me, and I'm sorry if it does. For those wondering why I don't use a Linky-widget instead, it's a simple matter of internet safety. The only way I can ensure that all the links lead to safe, appropriate places for someone of any age is if I build them myself. It's not a perfect system, but it allows me to keep better control.

Thank you so much for being a part of this awesome meme, and spreading the middle grade love!

*Please note: these posts are not a reflection of my own opinions on the books featured. Each blogger is responsible for their own MMGM content and I do not pre-screen reviews ahead of time, nor do I control what books they choose. I simply assemble the list based on the links that are emailed to me.

6. Don't miss the NEVERSEEN SoCal Launch Party!!!!

I can't believe it's that time again--NEVERSEEN comes out in less than five weeks!!!

(*tosses confetti whilst hyperventilating*)

(*chokes on confetti*)

And just like last year, I have ALL KINDS of updates coming up, including the pre-order swag giveaway and the NEVERSEEN tour dates and locations. (I'll also be sharing character art and teasers on social media, so if you aren't following me on Instagram, you might wanna click HERE and correct that)

But in the meantime, I have one thing you can mark on your calendars--the Official NEVERSEEN Lauch Party!!!!

And in case that graphic isn't loading for some reason, here the details are again in plain text:

Friday, 10/30/15
7:00 pm
Barnes &Noble Montclair Plaza
5183 Montclair Plaza Ln.
Montclair, CA 91763
909-399-1966

And yes--that date is correct. Thanks to when I leave for tour, the Launch party is FIVE DAYS before NEVERSEEN comes out. So that means--if you come--you can buy your copy FIVE DAYS early!!!!!

As if that weren't incredible enough, let me give you another AMAZING reason to be there: Everyone who comes to the official launch--and buys a copy of NEVERSEEN--will be given one of these SUPER SHINY alicorn buttons (perfect for fastening your cape--or, yanno, decorating whatever you want):

For those who don't live in SoCal, I *will* be handing out (or raffling off) a few of these buttons at each of my tour stops. Plus there will be online giveaways to give everyone a chance to enter for one.  And they'll be given out at the Launch on a first come, first served basis, while supplies last. So if you're worried about getting one, better get there early. :)

There will also be some very special CUPCAKES!! (*whispers* they might be mallowmelt flavored) And SWAG. And BOOKS!!! Shiny EARLY copies of NEVERSEEN!!!! And I'll be signing ALL of them!!!!! Who doesn't want to be a part of that?????

So mark your calendars for 10/30/15, and start begging your parents to bring you. It's going to be EPIC!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask away in the comments section below.

And ....  that's it for now. But like I said--stay tuned. Soooooooooooooooooo many more exciting things are coming up over the next few weeks.

*tosses more confetti and gets back to writing*

And I know this is the point where those of you who do not live in any of these areas pout because I'm not coming to see you. Believe me, I'm sad too. I wish it were possible to go everywhere. But since it's not, I've got a couple of other options for how you can get signed books and some of the awesome tour goodies I'll be giving away:

  • If you want a hand-signed copy of EVERBLAZE and the swag I'll be giving out on tour (except the mirrors--those are only for the launch party), you can order a copy from the stores I'll be visiting and have them ship it to you. Independent booksellers tend to be the best organized for this, so I'd recommend either The King's English, Blue Willow, or Changing Hands. Shipping and availability may vary, so you'll want to be sure to ask. Phone numbers for all of the stores are listed above.
  • If you pre-order a copy of EVERBLAZE before 11/3/14, you can fill out the form on this blog for the Pre-Order Swag giveaway and as soon as I get home from tour, I will send you awesome signed swag. You'll get the Iggy postcard art print, a Keeper series bookmark, and a signed bookplate to stick in your copy and turn it into a signed hardcover (or put anywhere you'd like if you order the ebook.) Plus you'll have a chance to win some extra goodies (including a few of the exclusive launch party mirrors). And this offer is even open internationally--but is only for a limited time. Full details on how it works--and the form you'll need to fill out--can be found HERE

And in non-event related news: the KEEPER website has been totally redesigned, and it has some incredible new goodies I think you're going to LOVE!!! Go HERE to check it out, and be sure to keep an eye out for:

  • Sophie's Foxfire schedules
  • Foxfire Academy information
  • All the details you'll need to create your own Foxfire schedule
  • Awesome new character art
  • A quiz to discover your ability
  • A recipe for Mallowmelt
  • Plus an excerpt from EVERBLAZE--which includes the first TWO chapters (so yes, if you've read chapter one in the EXILE paperback, another chapter has been revealed!!!) Get thee there quickly for another early sneak peek!

Phew--I think that's everything!!! But as always, keep an eye on this blog, and my other social media because there's a good chance I'll have more updates in the days to come. I hope I get to meet some of you on tour, and that the rest of you sign up to get your swaggish goodies. And thank you all for the excitement and support--THE WAIT IS ALMOST OVER!!!!

9. Where to Find Me This Summer!

Hey Guys!

I will also be at San Diego Comic Con this year!!!!

I'm going  MOSTLY as a fan girl (so you will spot me geeking out during panels and wandering the exhibits--and if you do, feel free to say Hi!). But I do have one signing if you'd like to come get a book. Here's the details:

Thursday, July 24th
3:00pm - 3:30pm
Mysterious Galaxy Booth
San Diego Convention Center

And I know I haven't been traveling as much as I did last year (trying--and failing--to keep up with deadlines). And many of you are looking at this list and thinking, but I don't live there!!! SORRY. I'm hoping to visit some new places this fall. But remember, you can also always call a store I'm going to be at (Independent Bookstores are especially awesome with this) and order a signed copy before my event. Then I can sign it, personalize it, and even include the extra swaggish goodies I give out at my events and they'll ship it straight to you.

Hope to meet some of you this summer!

10. Disneyland + YA Authors = SO MUCH WIN!!!

Hey guys!

I know I've gone back to being a VERY bad blogger (sigh). I promise, I'm going to TRY to be better. But in the meantime, I wanted to give a quick update about an event I have coming up at the end of March that I'm SUPER excited about.

Yes, that's right. An author event at DISNEYLAND. I mean, do you get anymore awesome than that??? I'm almost afraid it's so much awesome it's going to make the universe implode with awesome overload.

Here's the official event info from the organizers:
What’s better than books? Nothing! But rollercoasters come close. On Saturday, March 30, 2013, sixteen of your favorite young adult authors will put on their mouse ears for THE YAPPIEST DAY ON EARTH, the first (that we know of) YA Day at Disneyland. Bloggers, booksellers, librarians, and fans are invited to come spend the day riding with authors and chatting about current and upcoming releases. The event will culminate with a group signing at the Anabella Hotel, across the street from California Adventure.

To participate, meet the authors inside the gates of Disneyland at 8:00 AM on March 30th. Or, join us at the book signing at 5:30 PM at the Anabella Hotel, 1030 W. Katella Ave. Those too far away to participate may order books to be autographed through Mysterious Galaxy’s website at http://mystgalaxy.com/.

Participating authors include: Elise Allen, Carrie Arcos, Sean Beaudoin, Jennifer Bosworth, Martha Brockenbrough, Cecil Castellucci, Rachel Cohn, Kevin Emerson, Chris Howard, Lish McBride, Gretchen McNeil, Robin Mellom, Shannon Messenger, Cat Patrick, Kasie West, and Gabrielle Zevin.
The day will be tweeted live by participating authors and fans, using the hashtag #YAPPIEST.

11. Shannon-Events UPDATE!

Sorry it's been another quiet blogging week for me. I'm on another TIGHT deadline for LTSF #2--but I will hopefully be done with that next week or so and then MAYBE things really will get back to normal around here.

In the meantime I have some super-important Shannon Event Updates (well... I guess they're only Super-Important to those of you brave enough to attend a Shannon-Event. But I'm going to pretend you're ALL on the edge of your seats right now)

First--AND MOST IMPORTANTLY--the time and location of the LET THE SKY FALL launch party has CHANGED!!!! (this is why I should always have my publicist arrange things for me, she does such a better job!)

It's now going to be at one of my favorite independent book stores (I'm kind of geeking out about it because I've been to so many awesome events there): Mysterious Galaxy Books!!!

Here's the official deets--FOR REAL THIS TIME, I PROMISE!

LET THE SKY FALL Launch Party
Tuesday, March 5, 7:00 pm
Mysterious Galaxy Books
7051 Clairemont Mesa Blvd., Suite #302
San Diego, CA 92111
858-268-4747

I really hope some of you will be able to come. I promise rambling and embarrassing Shannon gestures (which will look super dorky in all of your pictures.) Plus prizes. AND YUMMY THINGS.  So you live in SoCal, please come. And bring your friends. GRAB STRANGERS. ;)

ALSO, for any of you who are writers, here's another event I have coming up that I highly, HIGHLY recommend you consider attending:

Big Sur Children's Writer's Workshop
March 1-3
Embassy Suites Hotel
Salinas, CA

This is seriously one of the best Writer's Conferences I've ever been to--and I've been to a LOT of conferences. If you're a writer and you want to improve your craft, THIS is the place to do itThey have a very unique format where you get to round table workshop actual pages from your drafts with agents, editors, and authors. I went in 2011 as an attendee and got some key feedback that made a huge improvement in LTSF and I'm sure is part of why it sold, so I'm SO honored that I'll be on the faculty this year. Yes, it is a tad pricey (though considering the rate includes your room and your meals it's actually one of the more affordable writers' conferences) but it's seriously worth every penny. Registration info is HERE. Faculty details are HERE.

And don't forget, I have some awesome events this weekend--it's not too late to decide to come. Here's the event info:

Young Adult Writing Conference:

For more info, go HERE.

 Mother-Daughter Book Party

(and gets you $2 off your first book purchase)
Attending authors: Joan Bransfield Graham, Leslie Margolis, Robin Mellom, Shannon Messenger, Lin Oliver, Jenn Reese, and Joyce Lee Wong
For more info, email Catherine Linka at: catherinel (at) flintridgebooks (dot) com

And one LAST thing to mark your calendars for (yes, I have a LOT of events coming up) is a signing/author panel I'm doing with my awesome agent-brother Chris Howard (ROOTLESS) and the lovely and hilarious Debra Driza (MILA 2.0) at the end of March. Here's the deets:

Wednesday, March 27th, 7:00 pm
Mysterious Galaxy Books
7051 Clairemont Mesa Blvd., Suite #302
San Diego, CA 92111
858-268-4747

Come hang out with us, I predict epicness. I mean, Chris has a British accent and Debra has pink in her hair--need I say more???

Okay, that's it for now--though I have some other events in the works and will update as soon as they're confirmed. Hope to see some of you guys there!

12. It just got real

There have been a lot of "wow, this is getting real" moments over the last few months, between BEA and ALA and Comic Con and SIBA (wow--no wonder I'm so tired!). But last weekend topped them all.

I did two amazing events, both so surreal and impossible to wrap my head around that I really don't know how to describe them. So I'm going to let the pictures do most of the speaking for me:

This is me with Margaret Peterson Haddix, Lisa McMann, and Helen Stringer at a Pasadena School Library for a Bridge to Books event.

HOW DID I GET ON A PANEL WITH SUCH TALENTED LADIES?????????????????????????

ahem

I can't tell you how amazing it was sitting next to Lisa McMann on an author panel after she's been such a huge inspiration and support to me. Which is why I couldn't resist doing a little gushing about her during my presentation:

Side note: looking through the other photos from this event has made me realize wow, I make rather interesting faces when I speak publicly. Lots of gestures too. For example:

If you're wondering, I have NO idea what I was talking about--or what that gesture is supposed to mean....

Anyway...since KEEPER isn't technically out yet, I wasn't able to sign copies. But I did sell pre-orders--which amazingly enough, people bought! And I gave away two early hardcovers

And signed them to the winners...

Along with a few ARCs people brought...

And despite how hot it was in there (dear A/C: I missed you. Please don't ever leave me again!) It was one of the most amazing days ever. Huge thanks to all the event organizers for inviting me, and my awesome panelists for treating me like I belonged.

(also, huge thanks to Katie Ferguson, who took all of the above photos)

I thought nothing could top Saturday's event. But... there was still Sunday.

Sunday I had the honor of speaking at the SCIBA Children's Literacy Brunch--an event I've been going to for years as a slightly-out-of-place aspiring author. So to be on the other side, as a speaker, signing copies of my book and giving them to people who've been cheering me on long before I deserved their support, was ... well ... let's just say it's a miracle I made it through my presentation without crying.

I wish I had better pictures to show you, but so far I haven't been able to track many down. I did find this one of me during my presentation (again with the strange faces!)

(and in case you're wondering, that's me holding up what I lovingly call "The Email Of Doom", aka the revision letter my agent sent me during the hellish revision process)

And this is me with the lovely and talented Salina Yoon, who was my signing table buddy:

If I track down any others I promise I'll share them. In the meantime, if you were one of the people who took the time to come to either of these events, THANK YOU SO MUCH! It was so great to meet you, and you really know how to make a girl feel welcome.

I tell ya, I have an AWESOME job. It's exhausting and sweaty and apparently causes me to contort my face into weird positions and flail my arms around. But it really is a dream come true.

So, that was MY weekend. How was yours?
