1. Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels Lands Book Deal

Indiana’s Republican governor Mitch Daniels has inked a book deal with Penguin Group’s Sentinel imprint. Publication is set for September, with the tentative title Keeping the Republic: Limited Government, Unlimited Citizens.

In January, a Fox News columnist called Daniels (pictured, via)  “the most promising Republican candidate to run president in 2012.” Sentinel publisher Adrian Zackheim acquired world rights to the book and Robert B. Barnett of Williams & Connolly negotiated the deal.

Daniels had this statement: “I’m offering these thoughts only because I am desperately alarmed about the condition and direction of the American republic. What just recently seemed a highly secure, ever more prosperous, internationally dominant nation is now endangered as never before, save perhaps the days of Soviet nuclear confrontation. But I devoutly believe there is a route to renewal, a way to reconstruct both our economy and an ethic of citizenship that will preserve both prosperity and liberty.”
