2. Back to the Biennale!

Good morning my handful-of-loyal-followers-who-still-follow-me-although-I-post-once-a-year!
You're looking yummy today! I could just eat you up!! Nom nom nom!!

I'm so excited that i just HAVE to share the news!

Remember when my movie "I saw Daddy today" was selected to showcase at the 15th edition of "Biennale des Jeunes Créateurs d'Europe et de la Méditerranée" (BJCEM) in Greece last year?
No?? Shame on you!! Shaaaaame!
Then click HERE to see my blog post about it!

Anyhoo.

Now let me tell you about the Return of the Biennale.
Back to the Biennale, organized and produced by Espaceculture_Marseille with the support of the City of Marseilles and the PACA region, is an exhibition organised to show the work of the French selection of the BJCEM.
However, as France Irrmann [French Coordinator of the BJCEM] particularly enjoyed my work in Thessaloniki, she thought it could be interesting to include it in the exhibition!

So on the occasion of ‘The Return of the Biennale’ that will take place in Marseilles from the 15th of November to the 22nd of December, they are going to show my video "I saw Daddy today"!

I just had to share the awesomely awesome news!
Much love to you all,
Janine.

3. Happy 75th, ALBA!

Sub-title: Damn, you old!

I must admit that my ALBA experience has been, well, ummmm... YEA! But i was very pleased to be part of the students who worked on this amazing 3D mapping projection showcased on the occasion of ALBA's 75th anniversary last Saturday.
Lora Choueri, Masters student specializing in animation, and I worked on the Visual Arts part of the show, with the most appreciated  help and guidance of the amazing team of Adaimy Studios and 3D Mapping Factory. (I was promised sushi, by the way!! Where's my sushi??!)
Check out our work starting 11:30-ish.

Also, Kudos to all those who worked their asses off for the show! It was awesome.
So you all better like it!! :D

4. I have been inspired!

Hello my pretties!
I do apologize for not being available for a while...

(Bad blogger! Off with her head!)

Hey, now! Behave! So, I've been busy for a while, no need to be rude!

(Busy? Huh! That's what you always say...)

What?? I REALLY have been busy! You know, with the holidays, and the parents and my boyfriend coming to visit from abroad... and... ummmm... the holidays... and...

(Tsk tsk tsk... excuses, excuses! Fact is, you abandoned us!)

Awwww! Are my pretty readers feeling lonely?? Is that it?? You know i love you!!

(Ya! Right...)
Who's a pretty reader?! Whooooooooo's a pretty reader?!?! You are!! Yes, YOU ARE!!!

(Get to the point, weirdo)

Pfft... There's no pleasing you...
ANYHOO,

I know it's quite late now. New Year's eve is looooong gone and forgotten (especially for those of you who had "more than a few" drinks)... BUT.
If you haven't gotten yourselves a 2012 calendar yet, I suggest you download the (Maestro! Anticipation music! Dun dun dun duuuuuun) the "Inspire 2012 Calendar"!!

(Aaaaaaaaaaah! OOoooouuuh!!)

Impressive, I know.
What's more impressive is that this calendar contains 12 unique wallpapers, created by 7 artists from the Middle East, and yours truly had the opportunity of being one of them!

(Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyy!)

So download the calendar now! And check out the talented artists behind it:
and... moi

Till next time, my pretties -and i promise to make it sooner than you think- enjoy a detail of one of my two contributions for the calendar.

5. A Love Story! And an animated viedo.

Sub-title: When clients turn into friends.

Last month, I had the pleasure of working on an animated video for new clients, Lama and Nadim, who wanted an animated souvenir illustrating how they met and how their love blossomed over the years, until their wedding day last week.
Their story is lovely, their love has endured years (11 years to be exact!) and distance.
Working with them was a real pleasure, and my first experience of having a business partnership turn into friendship.

The animation video was showcased at their gorgeous wedding, which we had the pleasure to be part of!
The video was a collaboration between myself, and fellow visual artist Pascale Ghazaly.

In fact, Lama and Nadim were so amazing that Pascale and I decided to go the extra mile! We wanted to give them something special, that's why we turned their story into a children's book, which I hope they will be reading to their kids someday.
Sorry for the image quality, the pictures were taken with a phone camera.

So, once again, i would like to say congrats to Lama and Nadim, and wish them a lifetime of happiness! And best of luck on their new journey to come.

Myriam Dalal and myself in an interview on Helwi Beirut talking about Nachaz' first animated video!
After the interview, i was asked to come back and talk about my own short animation movie, and about the Biennale of young creators of Europe and the Mediterranean held about two weeks ago in Thessaloniki, Greece.
First LBC... Next stop, Hollywood!

7. Thessali... Thessilo... wait... Thessaloniki! Here i come!

Sub-title: Yeeeeeeeeeeeeey me!

Hello my handful of loyal and sexy readers!
I know it's been a while, but i will make it up to you now with great news!
Well, it's great news for me... Not you... Unless you'd be happy for me... Then making you happy makes me happy...

*Shut up already!!*

Okay, okay... temper!
Anyhoo,
I have been invited to participate in the XV Biennale de la Mediterranée 2011, as artist selected by the BJCEM (Biennale Jeunes Créateurs Europe Méditerranée) member: The Cultural Cooperative Association for Youth in Theatre and Cinema, to present my animation movie during the event in Thessaloniki, Greece!
Also, my good friend and fellow visual artist Naim el Hajj was also invited to showcase his wonderful paintings.

Here is a trailor of the animation movie to be showcased in Greece in October. I hope you enjoy it!

9. Simba... King of the turtles

Sub-title: You're all invited for turtle soup!

A friend of mine lost her pet turtle a couple of days ago. Having lost a number of pets myself (Of no fault of my own!... Really... I swear... Stop looking at me like that!) I can relate to what she's feeling right now.

I would like to start by saying a few words about Simba the turtle.

*Lights cigarette*

*Inhales*

Simba has lived an amazing life even though it was rather short and mostly uneventful, for how many amazing things can happen to you when your whole life revolves around eating and crapping yourself .
He was a great friend, for he lacks the ability to speak... Or do anything else for that matter.
He was the kind of turtle that stands by you when you need somebody to be there; Or even when you are sound asleep and he creeps out of his tanks and stands over you... Watching you... Plotting a way to make you fit into his tiny little stomach.

Needless to say that Simba is now in turtle heaven. And his memory will live on in our hearts forever.

*Raises tequila shot*

To Simba! King of the turtles!

10. Homage to... Nachaz!

Sub-title: I am not a stalker, i just happen to be here... in the dark... sniffing your underwear...

Nachaz's Facebook profile describes the band as "a group of five Lebanese musicians with an urge to create original yet Good music which keeps up with what youth are experiencing in their daily life and gives them a new meaning to how rock and blues influences could be translated into a new wave of Arabic non commercial songs. The band got together in 2010 but the writing and the composing in Nachaz started in 2008 and is on going since."

I (w allah ynajjina men kelmit "I"), on the other hand, use one word to describe them... "awesome"!

Sub-title: We would be flossing with chicken noodles.

Hellooooo world!... rld!... ld!... d!...
I've missed you so much! (Yea right)...

Seriously, it's been a while, and a lot has happened since i last posted. Some of these events worth mentioning are these: I've finally graduated! (Woohoo! Yeeeey me!), I'm back to being a first-aider in the Red Cross, and, today, I've run out of Labneh because of my insatiable hunger (Booooo!!). Also, i must pick up some toilet paper... But i'll keep THAT story for another post!

Now enough with the yackity yack... how would you like to see some illustrations??
These are some of the illustrations i made for the final project about Fahim Fehmeh: The art of persuasion. Enjoy!

I crave labneh... with banadoura...
Now go away, i'm becoming cranky.
Love you tho.
Whatever.

14. I Saw Daddy Today.

The movie poster might end up lookin' somethin' like this.

Well, because of the lack of any other ideas, I have decided to call the movie "I Saw Daddy Today" (Whether i end up using the Yann Tiersan Song or not)...
Unless you have any other suggestion??
I'm all ears...

I haven't been able to post anything lately... I've been spending most of my time working on my projects for ALBA... And when i'm not working, i'm stuffing my face like a pig!
Here's a preview of my work for ALBA that i did in between stuffing my face like a pig.

Spank you very much! And have a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious day!

16. Lebanon, supa-sized!

So ladies,

Thinkin' about taking a vacation?
Well, here's a little somethin' to help you decide on the perfect destination!
Finally, a map we can use! A map of "well-endowed" countries of the world!

Here's a link to get a full view of the map, and browse the countries:

But as you can see in this snapshot, we don't really have to go anywhere! :)
We got it all right here in Lebanon! Super sized!

Kudos to all the Lebanese men who helped put Lebanon on the map. We salute you.

(P.S.The facts in this post are not checked. If you vacation somewhere and find it unsatisfactory, do not come crying to me! Spank you very much.)

18. The Hulk has nothin' on me!

Janine Khawnad... illustrator, animator, searching for a way to tap in to the hidden strenghts that all humans have (i dunno what the hell that means, but it sounds cool). Then, an accidental overdose of estrogen radiation, alters her body chemistry. And now, when Janine grows angry or outraged a startling metamorphosis occurs...

The creature is driven by rage... Five days every month...

until she can find a way to control the raging spirit that dwells within her. (ROAARRR)

Be afraid... Be very afraid.

Now go away... I'm not in the mood.
