I am getting jitters like I usually get when starting a new job or when I was little on my first day of class, but this time it's because I signed up to attend the Charlotte S. Huck Children's Literature Festival next week!      I'm new to the world of children's book writing and publishing, so I figured this would be a good way to dive in.

Illustrating the book has proved to be somewhat of a challenge. The characters I had drawn up to this point had been scanned, then worked on digitally using a copy of Photoshop Elements that I already had on my computer.  Then one day, I started a free trial of Adobe Illustrator CS4.  Oh my goodness, the world opened up.  However, with my trial about to run out, I started looking for other

10. The Idea

Back in 2002, fresh out of college, I was sitting around one day, designing a greeting card, and I ended up drawing a little character.  As I continued to draw, I started thinking of other characters, and I guess you could say they "broke out" of my imagination.  They ended taking on a life of their own, to the point where they started having their own story-lines.  I started thinking about kids
