26. PCOS Machine Versus R2-D2

Some PCOS Machines caused a bit of fuss during the 2010 Philippine Elections.

The PCOS machines were used to read and tally votes cast in the Philippine’s first automated election (2010). Some reports came from precincts in the Philippines that had some trouble with their PCOS Machines overheating, hanging, jamming, and doing other computer naughtiness. [...]

32. Illustration Friday: Rescue

An illustration I am doing for an NGO and I believe it fits quite nicely with the “Rescue” theme was suggested by Emily Wilson.

Here are sketches I went through to get this final illustration down.

I had to make the oppressors appear like they weren’t going to beat up the women to bits. [...]

35. 5th Backdoor Ventures Arts and Music Festival and Trade Fair

I often get word of the Backdoor Ventures Arts & Music Festival a bit too late. But here it is. When most art and music fairs in other countries can be found on the streets and in large open spaces, in Manila we have them in the malls. Check out the 5th Backdoor Ventures [...]

36. Suicide T-shirt: Fall Guy

Not a lot of Pinoys commit suicide. We’re quite a happy people. But if you know someone who needs to take a hint, send him or her a Fall Guy T-shirt for 2010. Most Wanted at Mysoti.com and comes in a number of colors. Also quite interesting for those into animation.

37. The “Ber” Months According to Joel: Giving Portions

The “Ber” months: September, October, November and December, have been very busy for me as freelancer thanks largely to game art projects from White Canvas Studios, some work from Outsiders, and comic book color projects such as Foldabots (K-Zone Philippines) and Eternal Descent (IDW Publishing). Without which I probably wouldn’t be able to pay [...]

39. Villains pose as heroes.

The Maguindanao Massacre clearly shows that, in reality, not everyone in the Philippines is a hero as Mark Gosingtian’s shirt encourages: That shouldn’t stop us from being the hero. It’s just that in light of the evils that go on in the Philippines… I believe this is more apt: This would be a nice [...]

41. Illustration Friday: Music

Turns out this week’s Illustration Friday theme is music.. So I’m posting the piece I did for the Mangaholix convention (which had the same theme.) I guess you can tell… it’s a very nationalistic piece. You can find a bigger version of it here.

46. Ondoy: Crocodile Politics

There’s this interesting bit of news that a crocodile was spotted in Rizal during the aftermath of Typhoon Ondoy. An alleged photo of which was shown on local media. But after I read this I think you will agree that there is more than one crocodile looking for media attention. Withholding aid just because you can’t [...]

I went on the first day of the 2009 Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) and aside from having a photo taking with Rex (the book mascot) I bought myself a copy of BOX. It’s a book zipped in a clothed yellow box with embossed silhouettes of various designer characters feature in the book. [...]

Good day. WALT DISNEY IS BUYING OUT MARVEL!!! What THE?? Walt Disney’s reputation as the family-oriented entertainment company is evolving, friends! “Family-oriented” Disney can now include in its definition: explosive, edgy, gritty, age-appropriately violent.
