1. With Brushes

I have my head buried in pencils, working on The situation. Almost done. After that it will just be Maddy Kettle and Robot Museum on the side.I haven't been able to post much of The Situation but I'm hoping I'll be able to post more of the other projects.

In personal news I'm still working at the art store part time and Julie's still looking for work. I hope to have good news on Julie soon. Henry's great and will be 2 next month. 2!!

Reading through the classics of science fiction right now. There are so many great, diverse SF books. Just finished Arthur C Clarke's 2001 and now I'm reading Philip K Dick's The Man in The High Tower, which is powerful and surprisingly contemporary.

Also really looking forward to HBO's Game of Thrones.....

2. Heretics Of Dune

The last two weeks I worked a lot at an art store to make some money to help pay for a computer I just bought. I live on the edge of Toronto so there's a lot of travel time on the street car. I love the street car. During the last weeks I listened to an audiobook of Frank Herbert's Heretics of Dune and would sketch scenes or characters . They are really sketchy but boy, were they ever fun to draw.

3. Too much Rail Time

In order to pay for the new Mac I had to work extra hours at the art store. This means lots and lots of travel time. I live an hour away from the store by street car. And this means that I've sketching a lot on my iPod with the Brushes app. So I have a small collection of doodles to post. I still love this app, so great for sketching. Now that it has layers it is even deeper and a compulsive way to draw.

In the NEWS I emailed all my editors before work yesterday and got mostly positive results. Oni and OnSpec are both really happy with the work I've sent them which is a great ego boost. Today I'm scanning the Maddy kettle thumbnails for Top shelf and working on completing The Situation for Tor. Can't wait to be throiugh this run of full time day job shifts, I'm feeling really burned out. It doesn't help that it's so hot here. My computer screen is wilting.

Also, I'm looking into getting a Cintiq tablet. I'm so excited about this....

5. iPod Odds And Ends

To be honest I post things on weekends I wouldn't post any other day. Especially Sundays. This is because I get less visitors so I don't feel a need to put something up that represents my work in a definitive way. I can post images that are experiments or failures or just uncharacteristic. I look forward to Sundays for this reason. Here are some noodles things I've done on the iPod, a little more abstract or looser than usual.

6. iPod Touch Sketch: Girl

Here's a sketch I did on the iPod with the Brushes App. I'm pretty happy with this one and I'm starting to see new influences creep into my work.

New thing while working: Podcasts! Totally addicted to art, science and pop culture podcasts. Great for keeping artists and designers company at the drafting table.

7. Car Panda

Here's another on the road piece. This one was done primarily using the Brushes app. but I also used a bit of an app. called Jackson Pollack, which is pretty self explanatory. Both are on the iPod Touch. I've been experimenting a bit with the more graphic possibilities inherent in digital media here.I'm still playing with this image and will probably continue to post its evolution.
Today is a cleaning and settling day. We're just cleaning out the car right now and sorting our boxes. We actually didn't bring a lot.The bulk of what we shipped was my art books.

8. Touch Noodles.

Here are two more sketches using the Brushes App on my iPod Touch. I'm starting to feel more comfortable with this tool. I draw cartoons anyway so the small size of the image is no big deal to me. the top picture is my cat Esther and is done from life. The bottom is a robot and was not done from life.
