USA Today is calling it 25 Books That Leave a Legacy. Ooooookay.
"USA TODAY's book editors and critics chose 25 titles that made an impact on readers and the publishing industry over the past quarter-century."
Oooookay. The term "legacy" still has me a bit confused. Dictionary.com defines "legacy" as, "anything handed down from the past, as from an ancestor or predecessor." Technically true, I suppose. And as you can see, the only way to become "a legacy" in the adult lit world is to become a phenomenon beyond all human reckoning. Hence, Harry Potter is the only kidlit on the list. FYI, kids.

Wouldn't these all have to be books in a series, in order to be a book that leaves a legacy? Or is the mayhem of being an Oprah book or something widely debated by the Vatican what they mean by legacy (yeah, I'm looking at you, DaVinci, although Potter was discussed by the Vatican too).
Looking at some of the choices on that list, clearly I'm going to have to kill somebody.
I mean, seriously. Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus? And don't even get me started on the Da Vinci Code. ARGH!
