1. Summertime, summertime

This summer I've been writing, sketching, painting, playing, and learning.

And I've been attending Nerdy Chicks Rule Summer School 2014, Building Character. You can check it out here. This online class is chock full of goodness and it's FREE! Kami Kinard and Sudipta Bardhan-Quallen have put together a talented faculty and I'm learning so much. Thanks, Ladies :)

4. Animal Wednesday: Bad Ear Day

Me and my right ear just don't feel like getting up today.

Hey, some days are like that.

Happy Animal Wednesday to those of you who rose to the occasion anyway ;P

(Emma really does like to sleep in late! She is soooo not a morning fur-person!)

5. Collage Portrait: AJ

I just finished this Semi Custom Collage portrait. This little guy is totally fearless and loves baseball with a passion. He's so adorable, too! This is the first one in which I've used the green option. You can get your portrait done here.

I entered the PS Print Holiday card contest. Please vote for my Christmas Chihuahua here.

I just had to share this Christmas card by my Twitter buddy, Elizabeth Caldwell. Don't you love it? You can purchase this and many other designs here. Be sure to follow her on Twitter, you won't be disappointed.

6. Animal Wednesday: Bunnies

I was loving the crispness of the hint of fall today so I took a little stroll around my backyard. Lo and behold I saw a few bunnies! Who knew?

Pssst! Over here in the strawberries and ivy! It's me, Mortimer!

Come join me!

This is Little Nell. She doesn't want Summer to be over yet.

This is Gramps. He's really, really old and sometimes grouchy. Please don't tell him I said that!

Here's Mom and Dad. They sit under the lamplight on the front yard and protect us from Laurel's dog, Emma.

Just look at her! All fangs and ferociousness. Grrrr!

Happy Animal Wednesday, and watch your backside!

7. Animal Wednesday: Drug Testing

This is one of the loves of my life, my dog Emma. I've emailed this photo to a few of you already but I thought it was so darn cute I wanted to post it today!

Here's the deal. You know we're moving and you know what goes into the process. Things get packed and tossed around and moved about and the animals pick up on the frenetic energy of their world changing. Emma has a mild form of epilepsy but when she has a seizure, it's a doozey. She doesn't have seizures frequently enough to warrant medication, thank goodness. When I took her and the cat in for their pre-travel check-ups I asked if I could get some valium for Emma in case she got frazzled along the way.

So this is Emma with a half of a valium on board. You can't tell in the photo, but she was swaying ever so slightly! In my sweet-talking voice I said "Emmie, do you like the valium?" To which she tilted her head and gave me this zoned-out look! I'll take that as a yes. This cross-country drive will be a breeze ;)

Happy Animal Wednesday!!

9. We Got A Dog!!!!!

OMG we got a dog!!!! I can't believe it! He's a Chihuahua mix, black and white from the shelter. Never in my wildest dreams did I think we'd get a Chihuahua, but he had the right energy and calmness about him. My kids are over the moon. I'll post pictures soon. I will be drawing lots of dogs in the future, of course.

10. And It Ain't A Fit Night Out ...

...for man nor beast. And I oughta know, being both a man and a beast, because I've just come out of it, pausing only to snap this picture on the way -- that's the view from 29th Street and 3rd Ave., with the Chrysler Building all but obscured by sleet.

The picture comes from my LG cellphone, which I must confess to being gravely disappointed with. On Wednesday night, my buddy Dan and I went to see the Shins at Madison Square Garden Theater (one sweet venue, so much cooler than the Garden itself, which IMO swallows up bands and then spits out their bones), where I whipped out my cell, already thinking of my duties as a guest-blogger, and took the following shot.

Okay, if I found that picture in a year or two, not only would I have no idea who it was; I wouldn't even have any idea what it was. The view from the bridge of the Enterprise upon entering the Horsehead Nebula? A late-night shot of the Brooklyn Bridge?

The Shins, by the way, are a wonderful but strange band. They seem to have at least two distinct sides. Sometimes they are capable of rocking out, as they did in their encore, a terrific cover of Jonathan Richman's "Someone I Care About" (but don't take my word for it), and then sometimes they are so freaking mellow that it just doesn't work live. So about half the show was dancing in the aisles, and half was wondering if I had any e-mail messages waiting . . . On the other hand, this did make it easy to decide when to go for beer.
