The Scarlett Pimpernel (The MacMillan Classics, 76864)

Normally, I don’t particularly like historical fiction, but this book is an exception. I have seen a few movie versions of this story and so when I read the book, I had some expectations. The actual events were different than I expected, but the story was great. I really like this because I like the idea of someone secretly rescuing those who can no longer help themselves. This story takes place during the French Revolution, when men, women, and children were taken to the guillotine daily for committing no other crime than being born a part of the aristocracy. The Scarlett Pimpernel is a secretive and mysterious person who is committed to saving as many innocents as possible. However, he is hunted on every side and a when the two sides of his life conflict because of the woman he loves, it will take all his tricks to survive.
