1. Mech Tree

Last week when I saw that the SFG was sketch, I was thrilled because I figured I'd finally have time to participate. Guess not. Better late than never? Here's my Mech Tree sketch:
treeNot at all related to Harry Potter. Maybe I'll post one of those in a month or two.

3. Independence Day

No more counting to 20 for this guy... oh well, 15 is still a pretty big number.

A rough sketch for a Fourth of July cartoon I did about 10 years ago... I decided to redo it in color. Here's a link to the finished piece if you wanna check it out:

4. Sketch

Doodling what my cat would look like in a sweater. He already has enough fur, that's for sure.

5. SFG: sketch

I recently started a new sketchbook as part of my daily sketch exercise. I am devoting this one exclusively to maps. Some of the maps will be of real places and some will be entirely fictional. Most will not really resemble the places that they represent, but will be extremely accurate.

Above is a map of the flight of a huge beetle that came into my studio the other day. You can see more of my maps and read about this adventure on my blog.

ps. if you are into looking at sketchbooks (and really, who isn't?) check out this wonderful resource... http://www.frenchdrawings.org/sketchbooks.php

6. SFG: Sketch

Sketch - This week's challenge is a fun one! There's something about the raw, unpolished sketches that we all do while working out an illustration that I just love. I urge you to post some of those sketches this week as part of the challenge. Post the finished product too if you'd like, that would be awesome!

The SFG Challenge was created to challenge every member to stretch their creative muscles, venture outside of their artistic boundaries and post their interpretations each week on a specific theme. You are enthusiastically encouraged to participate!

Don't forget to label your posts!

Have a great week!

-Jeff

8. Sketchy McSketchington

Here's a couple of sketches I recently did. I think we should share our sketches more often. It's been fun looking at how other people work.

We can talk a lot about design and design technics and trenes and a bunch of ideas, new and old and software too. But i Belice that a good idea is born in less tahn 3 seconds incide your head. So here is the cover of Hélix. It just happend BANG…and it came to me the inspiration to do this cover imiately so i started to draw and the result was perfect. So i leave you with the design process.

15. Glumm Horse - Sketch

I did a local sketchcrawl here in Phoenix AZ the other night, and here's one of mine:

I could/should have spent the energy drawing it in the computer instead, but it was fun to pick up a pencil for a change.

It's funny how using technology will effect how your draw.

I now try to draw vectors with my pencil, and it's just how I like to think of shapes and characters now. However, I always want the perfection of vectors in my drawings, and I can never get it tight enough. (Just how it is)

I drew this because I'm throwing together some ideas for my next project, a Halloween Alphabet book.

16. my all time high tool

If I happen to not drink coffee in within 3 hours after I wake up, I get heavy head ache. A normal workday to me is like "buckets" of this fluid, and I really do'nt wanna know how much I'm actually consuming...
But if I can't have coffee, I can't illustrate, period. Coffee is usually
altso the last drink I pour inside my body before I go to bed, no matter what time it is.
So if you wonder why the can has this color, then you're not initiated to the secrets of drinking lots of coffee, or it could be that you're just better at cleaing up than I am.

17. Batman Smash!

ok. The editor at my job has been wanting me to draw him a pic of Batman beating up Spider-man. I was against it from the start because I don't believe it could ever happen. I mean, Bats is a smart guy but Spidey is fast AND smart. So, after 3 months, I lost some bet and drew him the pic on my break. at my desk. shaking my head during and after the delivery of this sloppy sketch. no time to ink. no time to color. memo pad and #2. ok. I'm done.

19. guitar player

This is my "big thing" these days, to make sketches every day!
I've been illustrating for many years now.
Illustrations takes time, but to make quick drawings like this is just pure fun!
I draw whatever I come through, make the lines with filt pen and then I put on colors digitally in painter.
