Congratulations to the winners of last week’s Drawn! Giveaway, these fine folks will each receive the Animation Show DVD box set:
- Trevor Bassett, Seattle WA
- Simon Breslav, Eagan MN
- Janine Loomis, Riverview New Brunswick
- Michael Dashow, Oakland CA
- Susan Mitchell, Montréal Québec
Also, the fine folks at the Animation Show have just announced Montréal dates! Come see this fine program of independent animated shorts at the Nouveau Cinéma du Parc. The show opens May 18th and runs for a week only.
Mike Judge and Don Hertzfeldt’s The Animation Show, which is currently touring the US and Canada until June, is the one theatrical program I look forward to catching every year. With most theatrical animated screenings being of the slick, flashy celebrity-laden, three-dimensional variety, it warms my heart to know that Mike and Don are helping showcase some of the world’s best independent animated shorts.
Drawn! and The Animation Show are giving away 5 copies of The Animation Show Volumes 1 & 2 on DVD. The box set represents the first two years of the touring festival’s program and it’s a beauty. All the crowd-favourite pieces like Mike Judge’s original Milton short (which inspired his film Office Space) and interstitials by Don Hertzfeldt are on the discs, along with commentary on Don’s old-skool special effects wizardry. All my favourite shorts from the show are included, including Alex Budovsky’s Bathtime in Clerkenwell, Bill Plympton’s Guard Dog, and Koji Yamamura’s Atama-Yama, plus gobs more, and some new stuff that didn’t make the cut for the original tours.
For a chance to win on of the 5 sets of DVDs just send your name and mailing address to [email protected] by midnight EST Monday, April 16th. and make sure to include the words ANIMATION SHOW in the subject of the e-mail. Winners will be chosen at random.
Listen up, video game fans! As part of the European release of Every Extend Extra, a PSP game from Tetsuya Mizuguchi, Drawn! and Buena Vista Games is giving away an original, one-off piece of art taken from the game and designed by Mizuguchi. The artwork has been stretched onto canvas and Mizuguchi-san has signed it.
The work is described as synaesthesia — the union of sound, mood, and colour — and is completely original. To enter the draw to win, simply send your name and mailing address to [email protected] before midnight EST on Wednesday, March 7, and one lucky winner will be chosen at random.
The image at the top of the post is the artwork up for grabs. The picture of Mizugushi shows him holding a different, but similar, piece to give you an idea of the size.
about the 3rd image: i think it’s safe to say that as an art director the james jean ripoffs need to stop. seriously get off the photoshop smudge tool. well…i guess it’s nice for a hobbyist.
yikes. that’s a burn. well, there’s something to be said for honesty.
