2. Miss Emma Ant

My newest picture book for children is here! "Miss Emma Ant" tells the story of  talented, hard-working Emma, the architect for her colony's anthills. Ants in the colony, not recognizing their own special skills, grow jealous of Emma, and taunt her until she quits her job. Chaos ensues! Will pleas from apologetic ants convince Emma to return to work? Vibrant, expressive illustrations and fun

4. Missing

I can't seem to find my coffee mug anywhere.
I swear it was here just a minute ago.

5. SkADaMo Day 3

The ants have completely taken over our house. They’ve been massing for weeks and we’ve been knocking them back. But we’ve completely lost the war despite so many battles won. So, I’ve decided to admit defeat and just co-exist with my six-legged friends.

You really have to admire the little buggers’s tenacity?

This little guy is a study from an e-book I worked on last month

…………….

I’m hoping to put a list of fellow SkADaMoers together on Tuesday so we can root each other on!

Sketch on!

OUTA MY WAY

I'm an ant.
My eyes are big,
my joints are orange,
my bite means business.

I have work to do.
You're in my way.
I'm warning you --
my bite means business.

You better move.
I'm just one.
A hundred-hundred more are following.
We mean business.

Music this ant hums as he marches along (with his hundred-hundred comrades): March of the Defenders of Moscow, sung by the Red Army Choir.

And yet, after a day of marching, there's nothing this ant likes better than to kick back, relax, and tap into his creative side. He invites his friends to pose for portraits in his photo studio. Then he composes his own music and he posts his photo/music montages on YouTube, in the hopes that he will increase appreciation for the Formicidae family.

All business by day, all arts by night, this is one multi-faceted ant (and we're not just talking about his eyes, folks!!).

* * * * * * *

What on earth is this crazy post doing here? It's my response to the Tuesday Quick-Write for Teachers Write! Summer Writing Camp. I didn't really follow the rules very well. (What did you expect?!?) But I had fun getting into the head of this ant.

8. Illustration Friday ~ Strong

high hopespsd copy
Just what makes that little ol’ ant
Think he’ll move that rubber tree plant
Anyone knows an ant, can’t
Move a rubber tree plant

But he’s got high hopes… he’s got high hopes
He’s got high apple pie in the sky hopes
So any time you’re getting low
‘Stead of letting go,
Just remember that ant.
Oops there goes another rubber tree plant.
