1. Who Would Usher Recruit For a Book Club?

UsherUsher headlined the “Bigger Than Words” webcast at Scholastic headquarters. The Grammy Award-winning recording artist (pictured, via) took part to support the “Open a World of Possible” literacy initiative.

During the event, one kid in the audience asked Usher who he would recruit for a book club. The entertainer named actor Morgan Freeman, actress Scarlett Johansson, media mogul Oprah Winfrey, and cartoon superstar SpongeBob SquarePants.

Usher later sat for an interview with Vulture and confessed that he forgot to mention that he also wants Sean Connery to be a member of his book club. Follow this link to watch a full replay of the webcast.

2. Usher to Host Scholastic Event That Promotes Reading

biggerthanwordsScholastic has partnered with R&B singer Usher for a new program designed to encourage reading among children.

The initiative is called “Open a World of Possible,” and was put together with the idea of promoting reading in the classroom, as well as at home. To push this message, Usher will appear on a live webcast hosted by Scholastic called “Bigger than Words.”

On November 6, 2014 at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT, Usher will talk about the importance of books live from Scholastic’s headquarters in New York. Teachers and parents are encouraged to watch the event live by registering at this link. (more…)
