Marvel just released a list of release dates for their future films…without any actual film names. I guess it just proves they are so planning stuff. Here’s the announced line-up and the five mystery slots:
Guardians of the Galaxy — Aug. 1, 2014
Avengers: Age of Ultron — May 1, 2015
Ant-Man –July 17, 2015
Captian America 3 — May 6, 2016.
And the new dates:
July 8, 2016 — Mostly likely the Doctor Strange film
May 5, 2017
July 28, 2017
November 3, 2017
July 6, 2018
November 2, 2018
May 3, 2019
What else do we know? Avengers 3 and Thor 3 are planned, so two of those are spoken for—I’d guess May 5, 2017 for the next Avengers movie. Thor movies open in the fall, so November 3, 2017 would be possible for that. But four years between Thor films? I’m just spitballin’ folks.
That leave new movies for Moondragon, the Black Panther and Woodgod, right? More will be announced at San Diego, I’d expect, Hall H Saturday afternoon — be there, should be no trouble to get in.
Of course, speculation has run rampant. Could one of these films be Submariner, an oft rumored but never nailed down character? While you would think the film would be delayed by the difficulty finding an actor who doesn’t mind running around in a teeny green speedo for a full length film, it’s actually a rights issue. Namor is part of the much hated Fox Marvel FF film family, right? Not exactly, says Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige
Asked by IGN.com whether Universal and Legendary could produce a Sub-Mariner movie, Feige answered unequivocally “No.” When given the follow-up whether or not Marvel Studios could make the movie instead, he replied “Yes, but it’s slightly more complicated than that. Let’s put it this way – there are entanglements that make it less easy.”
He continued, “There are older contracts that still involve other parties that mean we need to work things out before we move forward on it. As opposed to an Iron Man or any of the Avengers or any of the other Marvel characters where we could just put them in.”
My guesses…
July 8, 2016 — Thor 3
May 5, 2017 — Avengers 3
July 28, 2017 — Doctor Strange
November 3, 2017 — Guardians of the Galaxy 2
July 6, 2018 — Captain Marvel
November 2, 2018 — Namor
May 3, 2019 — The Defenders
“The Defenders” is the name they are going to give the movie where the various characters who are getting Netflix series (Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist(?)) come together. But that’s going to be only on Netflix, so that wouldn’t be one of the dates he would be talking about, I wouldn’t think.
Would love to see:
Next Hulk movie, during end credits we see Hulk who hears a voice from behind him. He spins around to see the floating Astral Projection of Dr. Strange telling him that he needs his help.
Then the Dr. Strange Movie starts with that clip and then the movie goes to flashback with the Dr. Strange story and his first adventure and ends with he and Hulk working together just like they did in the comics. Hulk calling him Magician and all that.
I would love to see a Submariner movie. Namor has gone toe-to-toe with the Hulk, Thor, and the FF, and fought them to a draw! And when they battled, he tore apart Ironman’s armor like it was a sardine can! Namor is also the oldest Marvel comic character, first appearing in 1939, which predates Captain America by 2 years.
You dare dis Wood-God?
Namor is still owned by Comcast.
Guardians 2? haha, not likely after 1 bombs.
Instead of what is likley how about what I’d want to see? Moon Knight, Dr. Doom stand-alone, Will O’ The Wisp (okay, kidding on that one). The more they delve into these crappy characters that no one cares about like Ant-Man the faster the demise of this genre will be precipitated.
Yes, because Moon Knight is certainly a household name.
namor is marvel’s oldest character. he gets no respect in the comics. ever since he lost his own title in the early 70′s and then departed from super-villain team-up in the mid-70′s marvel has not known what to do with this classic character. a new generation of readers do not like him due to the neglect and abuse he has gotten from younger writers for nearly 40 years and many really do not even know him. a new generation of writers either do not like him or do not know how to write him. he is by far marvel’s most complex character. younger comic writers do not realize namor’s importance in the history of comics. he is comics’s first anti-hero. he doesn’t always see us (america and or the ‘surface world’) in a positive light. if you are for atlantis he is your ally. if you are against atlantis he is your enemy.
I think Inhumans will be one of the movies.
Namor’s rights aren’t owned by Marvel…sadly. But the question is, “Who is Busty enough, let alone has a body, to play Moondragon (in her original uni)?
Still no love for the Great Lakes Avengers…with Deadpool? And we can’t forget about Captain Ultra. o_O?
They need to fit a Steel-Man movie in there.

If Marvel continues making bank and pulls off a box office success with Guardians, am I being overly optimistic that they would combine the Avengers and Guardians cast for an Infinity Guantlet project? If Adam Warlock appears in a Guardians cameo at the end of the film, I’m thinking it could happen. However, this would be extremely ambitious and definitely the most expensive movie ever made.
when will the silver surfer movie ever come out?
he was featured in the last fantastic four movie and then poof!!!
