2. Chart: Lady Thor outsells Male thor

feminist_thor_sales

Fusion’s Danielle Henderson runs some numbers and shows that New feminist Thor is totally outselling old Thor. Of course, we know all about first issue bump, standard attrition and all that, but obviously the book launched with a high degree of interest.

Our own Xavier Lancel wrote that “It’s still a little too early to tell where this one is gonna go but its sales level is quite high so far. I would have expected a sales bump with this male VS female Thor issue. Did you check how awesome this male Thor by Russel Dauterman on the cover is? Big nipples, hairy chest, it was time for Thor to enter the realm of masculine hairy guys!”

Which really gets to the heart of the matter.

I see some of the gufflegobbers out there are using Lady Thor as an example of how the wimmens have ruined the masculine hairy guys of comics. If only these ceaseless watchdogs of objective thinking had been around when the Hulk was grey—can you imagine the horrors we’d have been spared?

3. I re-love the IKEA dining set

Sometimes I post something and then I think it needs a little follow-up. In this case it's the IKEA Fusion dining set. I loved it when we bought it and it did fit perfectly into our kitchen eat-in area. But I was never really happy with the cushions.

The set comes with the seats covered in a black matte vinyl? fabric. I really didn't like it. So I used an aqua and white striped fabric I had on hand to recover them. But I made some mistakes. First of all I didn't pre-wash the fabric and I had bought it 2nd hand so it turns out that there were dusty marks on it. I didn't notice until later.

Also I didn't remove the black fabric that was already there since it was attached with about 1000 staples. This isn't a good idea because it doesn't feel right and there was a subtle dark shadow from having the black underneath the white and blue striped fabric.

So this time I was determined to do it right. (if something is worth doing, etc...) For some reason I was picturing a green and white print and finally found the perfect one at a fabric store on Queen West. The best part is that it was a fabric that was usually $19/yard but I found an end piece that was around 1.5 yards for only $10! The green colour was exactly what I was looking for, and it was a nice upholstery weight with a lovely smooth feel to it.

Bradley helped remove the 1000 staples and I attached the new fabric and now I re-love the IKEA dining set. Yay!

4. Manic Monday

I do hereby promise to soon return to deal points and such.

(BIG YAWN) But today I am just so sleepy. Finished Duma Key (for those who live on another planet, that's Stephen King's latest) in the span of a couple days, way into the wee hours of the morning. How appropriate that Edgar Freemantle paints sunsets, because I was able to watch the sun rise on my second day of reading.

Not because I had stayed up that late reading (finished it at 3 am), but because I was so thoroughly spooked I simply could not--would not-- close my eyes. But this is more of a subtle spooky you feel, the subtle spooky that has you closing the book and telling you everything's fine, it wasn't really that scary.

Then you swear you just heard something in the rustle of the wind. Or maybe a shadow passed in the corner of your eyesight.

One thing must definitely be said for Duma Key--King is a Lost fan and it shows through. Just a couple parallels--

1- Some losties gain special abilities from the island (Locke can walk, Desmond sees the future) and some people on Duma Key gain special abilities (Wireman's telepathic abilities, Edgar's paintings).

2- Charley the lawn jockey, the twins, are both like the black smoke on the Lost island.

I bet the lostophiles are poring over Duma Key right now, searching for clues. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if there was something in there.

On a different note, anyone hear the news? Rumors are flying that The New Kids on the Block might be reuniting. http://www.nkotb.com/. Brings back memories, and a schoolgirl giggle or two.

Stay literate, my little beasties;)
